While on my way to work at 5:40am on 8/19/19, I stopped at the Lewiston, Mn location for a cup of coffee and some breakfast. I noticed a large amount of flies around the coffee. I understand that summer brings about flies, but the size of swarm was disgusting and as someone who studies Food Science, I am well aware of the diseases that flies can spread. I proceeded to make my cup of coffee and as I was finishing, a fly flew into the cup of coffee I had prepared. Mortified, I did not know what to do. I then asked the clerk what I should do with the coffee after I explained the situation, I was nonverbally just directed to a sink to pour it down with no assistance in an empty store. I proceeded to make another cup of coffee as that was the goal; however, I could not even bring myself to take a sip of it. Nor did I purchase anything from the hot food area. All I could think about is if they have flies by the coffee, I don't even want to know how disgusting the kitchen must be. At the counter to pay for the coffee, the clerk did not apologize and made excuses for the flies while charging full price for the coffee. I realize the doors may open and close, but we must strive for better customer service and higher standard of food quality with more adequate preventive measures.
