On 2/24/2013 I, Angela Mattocks, contacted EOS, CCA at [protected], 8:45 AM CST, in regard to a “Notice of Collection Placement”.

Initial contact was made with “Ashley”. This writer inquired as to the validity of this correspondence and to what services were allegedly provided. According to Ashley, she really didn’t know what the services were for as they could be for A T & T, Singular, or Alltel. She advised something to the fact that Singular or Alltel “bought out” AT&T and something to the fact that EOS CCA had bought these accounts.
I suggested that perhaps EOS CCA may have “bought” accounts that were not legitimate and that was an internal problem, not my issue. Ashley dismissed any concerns of mine and advised that she would inquire if the balance could be “negotiated”. I reiterated that there would be no negotiation as the alleged funds were not legitimate.

Another individual, “Amanda” came on to the line and inquired if I was prepared to negotiate the balance. Again, I reiterated the above. Amanda was adamant that the alleged funds represented a contract from 1/11/2005 through 6/17/2008. Again, Amanda was unsure to whom I allegedly signed this contract with; however, it could have been AT&T, Singular or Alltel. I advised Amanda that if she would like to send me a copy of the contract of which I allegedly signed, that I would review it and respond. Amanda responded that in “purchasing the accounts”, “they” were not provided with contracts. Further, she advised that in some cases services were solicited through the internet; therefore, a signed contract would not exist. She advised that I would either need to pay the balance or file a police report for identity theft. I advised Amanda that I would not file a police report for identity theft unless they could provide me with SOMETHING that would indicate that indeed this occurred.

My offer stands, if EOS CCA would like to provide this writer with a signed contract or documentation of an internet purchase, indicating WHAT this purchase was for which resulted in a contract for the period from 1/11/2005 through 6/17/2008 I would gladly review it and provide EOS CCA with a response.
Please stop further correspondence, written or telephonic, with this writer until EOS CCA has provided a good faith effort to assist the writer in investigating this issue.

Further, in researching EOS CCA it appears that there have been thousands of complaints against EOS CCA regarding their efforts to fraudulently obtain monies due from citizens of Kansas; therefore, I will be filing copying this complaint to the Office of the Attorney General .

EOS CCA - Debt Collection

EOS CCA sent a letter to my parents home dated Sept 14, 2011 attempting to collect a debt for Century Link in the amount of $336.33. I have not lived with my parents for 31 years and I have not lived in NM since August 2010. The bill is for charges through March 2011 for phone and internet services. The phone number on the debt collection doesn't match the number I had when I lived there. I called EOS CCA and they indicated that the bill was valid and I could dispute it but it needed to be in right away since my time limit was running out. Really, Sept 14 and today is Sept 21! Either it is identity theft or they have their facts mixed up. Interesting note, if it is a phone bill, I call home from my cell phone regularly, why didn't they have my cell phone number or any of my family's numbers? They would have been on the bill.
Scam Artists trying to get people to pay bills that they never incurred and do not owe!

I think people are too quick to call "scam" when they don't understand exactly what is going on. A scam is a deliberate action to trick someone out of money they do not owe. Emphasis on "deliberate". EOS CCA is a major debt collection company in the US and they make mistakes sometimes. I've dealt with them multiple times and I fixed the problem every time without trouble.

If you don't believe you owe the debt, then dispute it. When you do this, by law they have to prove that you owe the debt. This usually means they send you account statements, signed contracts, etc. If you're not the person that owes the money, then they aren't going to be able to supply these and they have to stop contacting you and remove anything on your credit report immediately. Easy, yes?
It's important to note that you have to dispute this stuff in writing. Send a certified letter with return receipt requested to prove they got it.

If they don't validate and they don't remove the information from your credit report and/or still contact you, then file a complaint with the Better Business Bureau. They usually respond to these pretty quick (within 2 days in my experience) and will send a letter back saying they made a mistake, they'll stop calling, and they'll remove everything they put on your credit report. Game over, you win.

If they still keep it up, then file a complaint with the FTC/Attorney General. This will usually get their attention if they've been ignoring you up to this point. If after 30 days or so they still aren't complying, then they are really up a creek without a paddle. Go find yourself a nice Consumer Protection attorney and explain what's going on. Most CP attorneys will take your case on for free because they know it's impossible to lose if you have proof they aren't complying and that you tried to fix the problem. You can sue their happy ### for major Fair Debt Collection Practices Act violations and those don't come cheap to them ($1, 000 per violation in your pocket).

Debt collectors make mistakes. It happens. Is it unfair that you have to take time out of your schedule to deal with it? Yes. But it's much better than ignoring it and letting them legally assume you are the person who owes the money and that you are refusing to pay - that will bring a world of pain down on you and is much harder to get fixed. Worst Case Scenario: If they try to tell you that your time limit for disputing is over, and you are 100% sure you don't owe the debt, send the dispute letter anyway and tell them to stop contacting you. By law they have to stop calling you and such even if the debt is valid. If they really think you owe the debt then they'll sue you. Show up in court and say that you don't owe the debt and they haven't proved you do. They either have to prove it right then and there or they lose their case. If you DO owe the debt though and you're just trying to get out of paying it, then you've screwed yourself big time with this approach.

Don't be scared of debt collectors and be courteous with them, even if they aren't with you. Find out what state they are calling from and see if their state and yours are "one party notification" states. If you are, then you can record their calls and not even tell them. If they start making false threats and cuss you out, then you have it on tape and can use it in court (both of those actions are illegal for debt collectors). Just deal with the problem in writing and it will go away. If you don't owe the debt then you have nothing to hide or get upset over as long as you do what you're supposed to in order to dispute the debt.

I have not received anything from EOS CCA...but I check my credit report monthly and today found them on my credit report. I am currently sending letters and copies of the fraud comments that I am finding online to get this removed from my report. I have lived with my parents for the past 3+ years and have had no need to use centurylink...which is a company that supplies phone and internet services. If anyone has had this on their credit and successfully had it removed please let me know what you did. I will report back if I am able to remove this from mine.

EOS CCA - Collections Fraud

I received a letter at my Great-grandmother's address where I lived in high school, twenty six years ago. It states I owe AT&T $745.32. This is physically impossible, as I now reside in the UK. My AT&T account was closed almost a year ago and there is no outstanding balance. What's more, I've never had a phone bill that high in my crabbed 43 years,

Be very wary of this company and these letters, which look extremely official. Something is not right here.

Hi bach1369,

EOS CCA is a well known collection agency in the US. (In fact, I believe their parent company is in the UK.) They do have sort of a nasty habit of attempting to collect debts that people don't owe, but these accounts are sent to them from AT&T and sometimes they just have the wrong person who happens to have the same name as you. (When they are looking for someone and don't have much information to go by, they get desperate and start mailing stuff to everyone they can find with that name.)

It's not necessarily fraud, it's just bad information on their part. Your best bet here is to write them a letter and explain that you are not the person they are looking for and to validate the debt proving that they owe it. By law they have to comply and send you bills and/or a signed contract with your signature proving it's your account. If it's not your account, then they obviously can't get these documents. When they realize this, they have to remove your information from their systems and stop contacting you.

Usually in the US this is done with certified mail and a return receipt, but I'm not sure how you would go about doing this if you are in the UK. Rather than venture a possibly erroneous guess, I'm just not going to attempt to advise you any further other than to say most of them time you need to contact them by mail in order to remedy this problem.

EOS CCA - Scam- Student loans

Well First off this company calls you to ask you to verify your last 4 digits of your social security #. They call you from a blocked number. They tell you they can't discuss anything with you til you confirm your soc. security. They called me about my student loans I have out. Said they are over 200 days past due and that they are needing the full amount from me of 4, oo0$. They tell me that my loan companies have gone out of business and have been out of business for months now. Which is not true I have been receving mail from my loan companies just got one 3 days before they called me. My loans are not past due and I am in forbance. Due to the ecnomy there is no work in my field of training. They said my loan is a private loan which I do not have any private loans out first of all, plus the loan that they were talking about the amount was less than what they said and is a federal loan. I called and talked to my loan company to let them know and to beaware of this company that is falsely telling people with student loans out that the companies have gone out of business. The loan companies are going to be fileing complaints to the federal government on this company. Not to mention they said they can't send me proof of my debt. They say I have to fax in my info to them for them to send me my promisary note that I singed when I was in school which I have already. Everything doesn't match up! SCAM, SCAM, SCAM! Going to talk with a laywer about this one! Oh yeah I am helping my loan company files charges to on my behalf!

They are a real company. They verify your social so they don't disclose you personal info to others, by law, they have to do this. FDCPA Law. I wouldn't waste time contacting a lawyer, he will tell you the same thing. Accounts are contantly bought and sold by agencies. The only way to really find who is handling your account is to pull your credit report and see who is reporting on it.

EOS CCA - Fraudulent Charges & Credit Impact

I purchased a Lexus in March of 2011 and was questioned about an outstanding balance that was in collection with EOS-CCA. Supposedly, EOS claimed on my Experian credit report that the original charge of $473 was with Sprint PCS in July of 2006; with interest, the amount has now skyrocketed to $778 by March of 2011. Confused by situation because I never had an account with Sprint, I called up Sprint only to find out that their records show no history or account with someone with my social security number; they don't know who EOS-CCA is.

The unfortunate thing is that this fraudulent item showed up on my Experian credit report and reduced my credit, albeit immaterially. Now I am in the process of filing complaints with the Consumer Bureau against both EOS and probably also Experian, the first for making fraudulent claims and the second for not doing their job as a major credit bureau and looking into these fraudulent claims.

EOS CCA - Collection

On 6/13/2009 I received in mail a collection for an AT T Mobility account under another debt collection company. I of course had no knowledge of this account that was opened and I submitted a letter to that collection agency advising to produce signed documents, confirmation of billing and any other identifying information showing I, myself opened the account. Well, they couldn't and sent notice to all 3 credit bureaus to delete the account and it was. Then I go to my mail box in January of this year and find a collection notice from EOS CCA for once again AT T Mobility, get this for an account opened Decemeber of 2009 with a balance of 705.96. I never received a call from this company nothing but one notice in January of this year. I filed a complaint with the FTC, I sent EOS-CCA a certified letter on 2/18/11 that I got confirmation they have received and still no phone calls or letters. I wasn't shocked one bit when I saw several other complaints for the same thing for the same type of fraudulent account (cellular service). Hopefully, they will respond to this matter soon.

EOS CCA - Collection for Earthlink

EOS CCA sent me a bill demanding payment of $69.07 for Earthlink. I called Earthlink and they could not locate my account (probably because I have never had one with them). I tried to call EOS CCA numerous times but no one will answer the phone. I have sent them written information stating that I have never had an account with Earthlink along with my phone number since they will not answer their phone but I have not heard back from them. They want you to make a payment by touch tone phone which means they would have all of your bank account or credit card information.

We received a "NOTICE OF COLLECTION PLACEMENT" for their client, EARTHLINK. We have never used EARTHLINK. How can EOS CCA claim that we owe their client money?

People need to stop fronting and pay they bills. I owe money I pay it. Dead beats just make it harder for respectful citizens to live life. And what does the AG or the police have to do with your bills? You know you owe it. Pay it. They gone get it one way or the other.

I also received a letter from EOS-CCA telling me I owed $102.60 for a Verizon account I closed, when I said I had talked to Verizon about all my accounts and they all had a zero balance I was told "Yes they have a zero balance because they have been turned over to the collection agency"? When I mentioned that Verizon had not sent me a final bill because of those zero balances, the answer was "if the final bill got lost in the mail that is not Verizon's fault". Why doesn't someone do something about this? Do we have an Attorney General? Do we have police forces? Why must honest bill paying people be put through this form of harassment?

I am receiving a collection letter from this company in reference to an AT&T Mobility account and I never belonged to AT&T Mobility.

It is on my credit report!

I know nothing of this bill.

I have just settled a lawsuit out of court with this company. They will pay my attornies fees, I get a $300.00 personal settlement check and they will remove all negative collections data from the three credit reports. It does pay sometimes to argue. It was an old AT& T bill for a Cingular Cellphone early termination fee - remember ATT bought Cingular. What I did was keep a record of when they called, and even was able to record one of the treatening calls. When they called my ex-husband (who I divorced over 15 years ago) I knew I had them. I submitted a complaint with the FTC that is still under investigation. You should request for them to provide any signed documents confirming you opened the account, you have the right to ask as an consumer. There are a lot of complaints against this company. Take action and report to the FTC at ftc.gov It's easy and it will be investigated.

My husband is a victim of Identy Theft. When we recently pulled a credit report we found an ATT account that he did NOT OPEN. I called them and asked for the ID theft department. The lady I spoke to told me that she had to speak directly to my husband. I informed her that he worked long hours and was unavailable and that I had been handling this situation for for the last 5 years. She told me she didn't care who I was or what I did or didn't do, that she wanted to speak to him because he needed to pay his bill. I tried to be polite but in the end was so mad that I said SCREW YOU and hung up. This company needs to change their attitude and practices ..not everyone is a deadbeat. There are honest people that get taken advantage of and their opinion is everyone is QUILTY NO EXCEPTIONS!

dispute it on your credit and fight it. AT&T "should" have a so called contract and they need to provide it to you, if they don't have it. start a calm against AT&T on your credit as well.

but a account with AT&T will also be on your credit, so what you need to do is fight and dispute both off them have all the documents you have regarding this issue. be ready though it may take at least 60 days but if you can prove it is not your account it will be removed from your credit .

also check out Fair Debt Collection Practices Act. you may be entitled a 1000 cash reward paid by the company for harassment

I never received a bill from EOS CCA, yet it is on my credit report for an AT&T bill that I know I paid before I changed carriers. The bill is only for 99. I paid $15 just to see what would happen and now they tell me that I owe $102 after the $15 was received. I asked them for a bill and their response was that I should have already received an itemized bill. I was transferred to a manager and she told me that it was not profitable for her to send me out a bill. So I asked her how would I even know if the payments were received. She told me only one report would be sent out and she had a terrible attitude. This is the only negative thing on my report. At this point I think I am going to dispute the validity of this charge. This company is TERRIBLE

The exact thing happened to me! It's on my credit and everything...I never received a bill from AT&T! Only a collections notice from the horrible EOS CCA company! Dont try to call them, because they will blame you and make you feel like ### about yourself! This is a horrible company and needs to be shut down!

EOS CCA - Fraud

They have sent me a collection notice in the mail stating that I owe $27.47 on an XM Satellite Radio account. I called them to verify and all they would say on the phone was " would you like to use your credit card now please". So I called XM and they told me I had a $0 balance. This collection notice was odd since I have been paying in advance 3 months at a time. Now i have to find out how they are going to ruin my credit score... this is CRAP.

Absolutely, Fraud and a Cheat...The moment i Told Miss.Clark I am in the police station and she needs to give me her information so i can dispute this $1000.00 amount that i never owe to anyone...She said oh, don't file the claim yet because she does not have all the information...I said ok whatever you got just fax it to me to this police station Fax number I gave her the Fax #...She said oh it will take few hours to get the information...and please don't file the claim because if you dispute the amount and just in case if it is your debt and you forgot about it it will back fire at you and you will be arrested because CCA had Requested A Warrant Against me Already...( i was In Tears...lol...They care about me...). well, till now never heard back from them yet!

Company is a FRAUD! Beware! They sent me a collection notice via USPS Mail stating that I owe them $474.80 from a past due ebay balance. I don't owe EBay a nickel! Do they honestly think people are going to pay debts by being strong-armed into giving a credit card number. This company needs to be investigated by Law Enforcement and other State Agencies.

To Rob D and Ryan H--read before responding to these people's comments and telling them to pay their bills, how about paying attention to their comments first? They are paying their bills! They are being erroneously sent to collection over bills that they already paid in full according to their contracts!

My hubby and I have our own horror story with CCA--we have been fighting with them now for 3 years over a cell phone bill that we don't owe. It was with AT T. We started service on Nov. 2, 2007. We ended the service on Nov. 16, 2007. That was only 14 days and we did not make any phone calls with it! We had a contract that said that if we ended that contract within 15 days, we would owe nothing. We didn't hear anything bill wise from AT And T at all. No bill, nothing. And then all of a sudden, January of 2009, we get this collection bill from CCA. We have now reached the point where we are reporting them to our own state's attorney general's office and the Massachussetts Attorney General's office because they have been breaking Fair Credit law--our attorney demanded that they send us proof that they(CCA) are licensed to operate in the state of Washington(that is where we live), and they haven't sent that, the attorney requested that they send us an itemized statement and a copy of the contract that we signed, they haven't sent that, they were told that if they did not send these things that they were to immediately remove this item from my hubby's credit report, they didn't do that, and they were told to cease and desist calling us. They didn't do that. So, I don't care how reputable you say they are, the fact that they are treating me and my husband this way tells us that they are not reputable. They have broken the law in our case. OH, incidentally, we have receipts proving that we returned the phones and ended our service when we said we did. And that proof was sent to them. They have it. But they have chosen to ignore it.

First, this goes out to Claudia M. She is obviously one of those Vile Collections People--who in my view, are nothing more than minimum wage losers who do not possess the skills or education to find a better job, and who perhaps found a way to get back at the world for being mean to them in school when they had red hair, freckles and braces. That said, I am a Vice President in Credit Card Banking and Collections. I do not believe in sending aging accounts to outside agencies, due to the fact that they are often unprofessional vermin with no interpersonal skills. As a banking professional, it is necessary to realize that each and every agency represents the bank, be it collections, legal, chexsystems or other consumer agencies. Since they are representing the bank--albeit for a sizeable commission on whatever they collect--they often will stop at nothing to collect, including, but not limited to fraudulent representations. I myself have hired and fired over 50 outside collection agencies throughout my 26 year tenure with this banking corporation. I have fired over 100 bank employees throughout my rein as department supervisor, manager, team leader, and division leader, most of which was due to an ethical concern. Whether you are a retail store, banking or mortgage company, or collection agency, we are ALL bound by the rules of the Consumer Fair Debt Collection Practices Act--as amended. I think that the heirarchy of C.C.A. and Claudia M. should realize that by now, and perhaps look for guidance from the American Collectors' Association. If you do, you may just realize that there are better, more productive and HONEST ways to collect legitimate debt--without violating the laws which protect the consumer. My division does it on a daily basis, and our numbers are so good, that we only have 112 charge off accounts left, out of over 10, 000. I dont care whether the debtor sends us $10.00 a month, as long as they are consistent. In these economic times, I would rather collect $10.00 a month from 10, 000 debtors = $100, 000.00, than to collect $2, 500.00 - $5, 000.00, and have to give HALF of it to the courts, and lawyers for legal fees. Get with the times people, George W. Bush and his self-serving War has cost us--the free world--our economic stability. Hopefully one of our presidents, be it Obama or another, Republican or Democrat, will be able to restore it one day soon. Although, I am not hopeful for a speedy recovery. Until it happens, people are worried about being homeless, jobless, and without food, clothing and medical care for their children, the elderly, and themselves. What makes you think they are going to worry about an old credit card or bounced check, or cell phone? Especially since the banking rules are requiring damn near perfect credit instead of GOOD credit in lending of any kind these days, what's one small smudge on their Experian Report--especially considering that $500.00 or $1, 000.00 could feed a family for months?

I received a bill from EOS CCA stating i owe 7650.00 for a school i attened..I never went to school..and when i tried to call the 800 number listed on their form the number doesnt even go through..Now i have take the time to write and check my credit report..as if i dont have enough to do all ready..what is this world coming to.. if someone is using my personal info i will go after them and do what needs to be done...

This is a copy of the letter that I filed (on-line) with the OCCC, BBB, Texas Attorney Generals Office and the FTC. If more of us file complaints online then maybe we can make a difference. It only takes a few minutes to do. By the way I do have the recording of the conversation with CCA and for $50 you can buy a recorder that attaches to your phone (cant be a cordless phone, you will need the old fashioned phone with cords) from any Radio Shack.

Today, I called CCA (Check Collections of America) and spoke with (and recorded the conversation that I had with a lady only naming herself as) Ms. T, today. The phone number that I called was [protected]. I verbally requested a cease and desist and that all future correspondence be mailed.
The reason for this letter is that I have filed complaints with the FTC, Attorney General’s Office, The OCCC and the BBB. I have read the Attorney Generals web-site regarding fraudulent debt collection tactics. I believe Check Collections of America (CCA) to be in violation of fraudulent or deceptive practices; which are prohibited.
I was told (by Ms T.) that she represents an attorney (Eileen) and that she was going or has already filed an affidavit with the District Attorneys Office for a hot check. I know that debt collectors are not allowed to deceive consumers with the following:
• False representations implying that they are attorneys or that there is the involvement of an attorney in collecting a debt; Use of a false name; Falsely indicating the legal status of papers or forms sent to you; False representations that you have committed a crime or that you will be arrested or imprisoned;
I believe that CCA is in violation of the Fair Debt Collection Act. There are also penalties and violations in regards to the Texas Debt Collection Act. Check Collections of America (CCA) are subject to criminal and civil penalties. These violations could also result in an injunction and damages against CCA. These actions are also violations of the Texas Deceptive Trade Practices/Consumer Protection Act which gives the Attorney General the authority to take action in the public interest.
As I stated to Ms. T that I have contacted St. Lukes Hospital (Where the alleged hot check was written) and was told that this check was not returned for

I want to know how CCA got my telephone number, calling for someone I haven't seen in 8 years. This person is only connected to me via facebook and doesn't have my telephone numbers! I'm freaked out by this company. If they call again I will file harassment reports because I do not have this person near/around/living with me and they are calling for her constantly! I do not owe these people, they need to quit calling already!

The problem I have had with EOS-CCA is they keep calling my house asking for my brother in-law or trying to get message to him. My husband and I have relayed the message to him and told EOS-CCA this and to take us off the calling list. Yes, my brother in-law has had trouble in the past paying his bills, so I am not saying the collections isn't correct. I just don't like getting all the phone calls from collectors (not just EOS-CCA) trying to collect debt that isn't ours. However, most of the other collectors will stop calling once asked. One EOS-CCA employee, got really rude with me once I asked to take our name off the calling list (about the 3rd attempt to remove it). She didn't hang up on me, but put me on hold and never came back to the phone after more than 40 minutes. I hung up and called back to attempt to remove it again. I told them if we get another phone call from them (when it isn't our debt), I was filling out a warrant for harrassing communications. We also get calls from collectors on our neighbors. For all you collectors out there, put yourselves in my shoes, you wouldn't like getting DAILY calls from collectors for debt that isn't even yours. Crazy that you work hard to pay your own bills, but still get calls for other people's debt. We can't help it that family, neighbors, etc. don't pay their bills, PLEASE DON'T HARRASE OTHERS when you know you are calling a family member or neighbors house, not the debtor.

I personally don't think everyone here is innocent on this board! If call Cca and act like an adult and have no attitude with these collectors and try to handle the account in a proper manner then they won't hang up on you. #2 If bills are paid on time like everyone promised they would when they signed that that piece of paper which was a legally binding contract they wouldn't have to deal with these collectors. #3 They can't disclose any information cause it's obviously personal information. It's like when you have sumthing that's under your name for example a cellphone, not anyone can call in behalf of your account unless the user adds you as a authorized user. If u had a bill and I called your home and asked for and say your auntie answers the Phone and she's askin who what and where would you like for me to say ya she has a cell phone bill here for 500$ she needs to call me back and take care of it. Now your aunties gonna be like wow she can't even pay her cellphne bill I wonder how she's doing ok her mortgage which is another luxury item. It's none of your concern. So let the grown woman who signed that contract take care of her responsibility.#3 The people who you should be mad at is the client cause Cca doesn't come up with these debts out of nowhere. They don't magically appear on their computers. The client sends all the info to their office and they just call to collect the money. #4 Get over the fraud BS cause if the were trying to scam you they would they would take it full social security number and take out creditcards and etc under your name so pay your bills on time and you'll be ok
