Mathis Brothers Furniture - Service and follow up

We went to mathis brothers and saw a bed we liked on 11/13/23. The only bed left was the one on the showroom. They offered a discount to take this one. We accepted. We were then told we needed to "Joint the club" to get the discount. All is well up to this point. We then decided to buy a new mattress for the guest room as we already spent 139.00 to "join the club". Here is where the issues began. The first sales person could not ring up the floor model. In comes a sr. sales person who could not do it either. Then they brought in a floor manager who could not do it and at last they brought in Ruben, the store sales manager who assured us this would go smoothly. I told him I doubted the process and they all seemed confused. Also, they were fighting about who gets the sale as they are all commissioned salespeople. My girlfriend is way more patient than me. I would have just walked out, but she was patient and she paid for the bed and the mattress, and this took around 45 minutes. Ruben was less than polite the entire time and acted like this was a bother to him. We also were told all items we bought were in stock and delivery would be scheduled right away. Three days later we called to see when the items would be delivered. They said they would call us once it was ready to be delivered. 9 days later we called again, and they said we would get the delivery the day after thanksgiving. This was 2 days later. So, on the Friday after thanksgiving we made ourselves available to take the delivery. The truck shows up with 3 guys and they bring in the mattress, and the box spring we added to the order. Where is the bed? Not on the truck. The driver explained they come from Ontario and the floor model bed would come from the store on a different truck. We called the store and was told that they would check on it and call us back. No call came. So, we called again, and I was told that RUBEN had cancelled the order. I was dumfounded. No call, no email, nothing. No explanation as to why the bed we were sold, and we paid for was cancelled. I then jumped in the car and drove to the store. Ruben was near the front and immediately almost ran away when he saw us come in. I then went to the customer service desk and asked for a manager and was told RUBEN IS THE MANAGER. The cashier called him up and he walked up and stood about 20 feet away from us while the cashier explained the problem, we told her about. They were whispering. RUBEN then basically told her to stall us, and he ran away and hid in a distant part of the store. The cashier told us he was with a customer, and we should wait. We waited around 30 minutes while another sales guy kept coming up and trying to sell us more furniture. We then told the sales guy what had happened to our previous order, and he walked over and sat down with RUBEN and discussed it. Then he came back and said that there was nothing he could do except sell us another bed. I asked why the SALES MANAGER; Ruben would not come over to discuss this and the guy said he doesn't know but he was sure he could get us a good discount on another bed. We then decided that since the sales manager would not MAN UP and at least tell us why he cancelled our order, we would leave. BUT first we wanted to make sure we were refunded for the bed he had cancelled. The cashier said the transaction was cancelled and the thousand plus dollars was move to a store credit. ARE YOU KIDDING ME. What a ridiculous company. We asked the amount due back to the credit card, and they did that. Now we had been there for over 1 hour. I went to the receptionist and asked to talk to the store manager Joshua, she said he does not have email or any way to contact him, but she said he was in the store and would get him. He never came out either.

We left Mathis bro's and went and spent over $20,000 at two other furniture stores that same night.

I own a real estate company and many of our clients buy entire households of furniture. I will not be recommending Mathis to any of them.

The whole problem could have been resolved if the sales manager had just called us, apologized and explained why the order had to be cancelled. Their sales guy told us they double sold the bed to two different buyers, and we lost. This is not a big deal to us and before cancelling our order we should have at least received the phone call. The team at IRVINE MATHIS BROTHER could have made us raving fans, instead they made alienated us. The rent they pay for 180,000 feet of Irvine real estate is steep. I would think with this type of customer service the building will be available soon. If it were my company i would fire RUBEN immediately, reprimand the salespeople we delt with and offer us an apology. The icing on the cake was, we asked to be refunded for $139.00 for the CLUB membership as we would never be back, and we were told only corporate can refund that and they will call us. I don' believe my phone will be ringing from Mathis bro's corporate anytime soon. By the way, we went to a competitor, bought several items and the whole process including scheduling delivery took around 10 minutes and their salespeople are not commissioned. Bye Bye to the Mathis brothers and the Property brothers who is now one of their sponsors I guess.

Claimed loss: Loss of time and the bed we were sold

Desired outcome: An apology and fire RUBEN

Mathis Brothers Furniture - Sectional material and fabric

I purchased a $3000 + sectional I am a single mom. The material has a [censored]ling feel and has given me and grandchildren irritation to skin, I can't sit on my sofa or use it with guests for the same reason that it gives them allergic reaction. Irvine office was rude and not willing to help I want it replaced or fixed this is not right.

Mathis Brothers Furniture - Breaking a signed contract

Purchased 8 dining room chairs at the Irvine location on 3/21. Three of the chairs were located in the clearance area, one was in Ontario and the others were in Oklahoma. I paid by credit card and was informed that the estimated date of delivery is 4/17. I get a phone call yesterday (4/2) from Ray, one of the sales managers, that their was a mistake on the price of the chairs in Ontario and Oklahoma. He informed me that I needed to pay an additional $900.00 or I could cancel the entire order for a refund, which I felt he was trying to get me to do. Why am I being contacted 2 weeks later? He really had no answer. Just the the order was kicked back. I have never heard of such a thing. This is a binding contract - paid in full. I do expect them to honor this contract. I have left messages for the store Manager ( Alex Morino) and he has not returned my phone call.

Desired outcome: Honor the signed contract and deliver my order

This appears to a "a bait & switch" tactic. "Bait & switch" is illegal in many states. You can contact your local District Attorney or the your state Attorney General's Consumer Fraud.

The amount of damage is $900.00 therefore consider your state's Small Claims Court.

If you do not trust the seller, then let let a Small Claims Judge decide the truth & give you a monetary judgement if he or she decides that you deserve the $900.00 plus any other damages or costs the law allows.

Small Claims Courts are best & most effective protection "we little guys/gals have & to me, it kind of beautiful!
