One of the main advantages of this loan is that there are no monthly payments, so your income is not a significant factor. This was the main obstacle we faced when trying to refinance our home. We even attempted to apply for a "no income verification loan," but unfortunately, we were turned down. We were on the verge of giving up on our home improvement plans for our 30-year-old house when I decided to take a chance and give Unlock a try. He assured us that our experience would be different, and he was right. From the application process to receiving the funds, it took less than two weeks. Unlock is my current home equity lender. My house was severely damaged by hurricane *** in September, making it uninhabitable. My flood insurance company issued a deposit check that needed to be endorsed by Unlock. Unfortunately, the check was not properly endorsed, and my bank refused to deposit it. I contacted my bank and asked them to explain the necessary steps to Unlock. I sent the check back to Unlock, but I have not received a properly endorsed check or any communication regarding the matter. This situation has depleted my personal savings, and I urgently need the funds to continue rebuilding my home. I returned the check to Unlock on 11/21/2022, and as of today (12/2/2022), I have not received a properly endorsed check or any explanation from Unlock.

We contacted Unlock approximately 10 weeks ago to discuss our financial situation. They advised us that they could proceed, but I would need to remove myself from the title of the home. I agreed to this condition. Unlock ordered an appraisal and requested that we remove the existing Aven Credit Card line from our title, even though it had never been used. We complied with their request. However, the appraisal came back with a low value of $495K, which I disputed. Unlock agreed that the value should be higher and informed me that a second appraisal would be requested. Unfortunately, three weeks passed without any communication from our contact at Unlock. I sent emails, left messages, and spoke with other representatives at Unlock, but I never received a call from a manager as I had requested. I was given a timeframe of one week for the completion of the second appraisal, but three weeks later, I discovered that the original appraisal company had agreed with the first appraisal, only raising it by $5K. Therefore, no independent second appraisal had been conducted yet. A second appraisal was then requested, and this time the value came in at $545K. I received an email from Hoz instructing me to remove myself from the title, which I promptly did. However, they later informed me that they needed to check my credit because I was still on the note. This issue had been discussed at the very beginning, so it was frustrating to encounter this problem now. After 10 weeks of being misled, they ultimately denied our request. They wasted our time, provided us with incorrect information, and now we have nothing. We also had to spend money to go through this process. It is clear that they do not care about their customers. Thank you for the deception. I strongly advise against doing business with this company, as they clearly lack competence. I believe they may be colluding with the appraisal company to issue low appraised values.

I wanted to obtain a loan using the equity in my home, and I discovered Unlock online. I submitted my loan application and was eventually approved after a few weeks. Unlock partners with Value Net to conduct what they call a hybrid appraisal. The appraisal was completed, and it revealed that the value of our home was approximately $80,000 less than any other home in our subdivision. Upon reviewing the appraisal, I noticed several errors, such as incorrect square footage and pictures of the wrong house, among other mistakes. I reached out to Unlock to request a second appraisal, even offering to pay for a legitimate one ourselves, but our request was denied. Unlock exclusively works with Value Net, which I believe should be deemed illegal since the same company conducts the appraisal every time. This creates a relationship between the two companies that aims to maximize profits by undervaluing properties. I have come across a few complaints online from other individuals who have used Unlock and Value Net, and they express similar concerns. Due to the low appraisal, Unlock has made a significant profit on the day of signing. My second complaint pertains to the closing company that held our funds for several days after signing. Despite numerous calls and emails to Unlock, no action was taken to rectify the situation. It was only after I posted a review on ComplaintsBoard.com that Unlock finally prompted the closing company to wire the funds. I would also like to express my belief that these types of loans, which allow access to home equity without a proper qualification process, may lead many low-income families to lose their homes in the long run. These companies specifically target individuals who do not meet the income requirements or other factors necessary for a home equity line of credit (HELOC) or refinancing. In my opinion, these predatory loans have the potential to cause a housing market crash. I intend to file a complaint with the attorney general regarding this matter.
