Whoever said crime or breaking the law in florida doesn’t pay. This person never lived in florida in a homeowners association.

Are you ready to be shocked and awed about what i am going to tell you? Our governor rick scott, our local state congressmen and state senators have left the flood gates open for all types of corruption and theft regarding home owners associations. If you live in a hoa, watch out, the state is a toothless paper tiger. When your community has or is being subjected to thefts and complaints about corruption from kickbacks to directors, (Cab) management companies, and condo / hoa lawyers, you are not alone. The state of florida will say hear me roar but all you will get is a squeak. You can read about these horrors on the internet and your local news. You can find plenty of these on the sun sentential.
When i found out this was going on in my home owners association and everything that i read in the news articles in the sun sentential were accurate, i contacted the state of florida division of florida condominiums, timeshares, and mobile homes. The state told me they had little or no powers over hoa, and the areas they do have power, they have almost no one to enforce it. I decided to make an appointment to meet with my local rep. Jim waldman in broward county. Useless cannot truly describe my account with rep. Jim waldman and his staff. In turn i was then referred to the office of senator jeremy ring. You want to know what it’s like to be a ping pong ball, try to ask for assistance from either one.

I compare my experience with representative james waldman and senator jeremy ring, to a snail. They both go slow and they both leave a trail of slime. I have to tell you, i loved it when they told me our office doors are always open. Yeah, but what good is it if the lights are off.

I heard others compare politicians to cockroaches. Since a lot of them are lawyers, i can agree on this as well. They brag about all the work they do for their community and tell you they are working on these problems but when the light comes on they scamper away.

At least waldman’s staff was friendly. As for him, he has a great smile on his picture, but that is where it ends. Good luck when trying to bring a real issue to theses people, you can see the blank look or the lack of intelligence on their faces. If you are very lucky, you may get a call from someone that appears to have a sign of life. But, sadly to say, all you will hear is double talk. Their method to resolve an issue is to pacify you by telling you we are aware of these issues and are working on it. However, if you follow up on it a couple of months later, you find out from their staff they are unaware of any issues.

This was my first experience with dealing with politicians and a got a dose of reality. The word morality is only letters of the alphabet to these people.

I am in the neighborhood from hell and my HOA has done very little to help, but did raise their dues. I live next to renters (I own) and the son decided to start an auto body and lawnmower repair service next door. He has always been rude (moved the end of 2020), but one day he had a large trailer backed up near my driveway with a radio blasting out of it. When I said loudly "what's this noise", he sneered, put on a visor and starting drilling something on a work table on the front lawn. I see various cars up on blocks inside garage, terrible smell of oil when he works on commercial lawnmowers. I decided to make an anonymous complaint to the management company. She said she would take care of it and had already flagged them for violations. I thought GREAT... was I wrong. They stopped for awhile and then started up again. I called again and she said "Do you really want to interfere with him making a living?) I mean really... it is against zoning, licensing and EPA. And yes, I know I can report them but it cannot be anonymous and I am afraid of them. They got the first owners to leave a new house they had only had for 7 months. My realtor told me some story that they were moving back to Miami. The one board member told me the previous owner told her they had threatened her with a knife over some package! I spoke to an attorney who just told me to take a lot less and sell to Open Door. However, he could not guarantee even they might sue me for not disclosing, but thought they would just pass it on to the new owner probably. The President of the HOA was willing to fine the owner, but one board member (who they got friendly with) stopped it. I am at my end here. My home could burn down or hazardous wastes could contaminate the block! Any suggestions?

hello, to whomever concerned, i just moved into this condo assn located in broward county in september, i can say i am very disappointed in this assn, for one thing, you cant get answers to the questions you need answered, since you are just moving into the neighborhood, for instance, when is your name gonna be put in the directory so people can contact you, by putting in the code given to you by the assn, that code calls youe phone and then you can buzz them in its hard to get your package, cause amazon, ups, ect. have hard time trying to get your packages to you, i litteraly saw a package left outside, the door, they couldnt get in to bring it to the person, they aslo smoke in this bldg, this assn is suppose to be a secure 55 plus community, i walk out of my unit sometime and the hall is lit up with smoke smell. there is a lot of elderly people that live here and they cant get around if they need to, there is( hoir lifts) in some peoples units, i even seen a note posted saying to people to keep there mouth shut to questions people have. i been here since september 2021 and my name has yet to be put in the directory, its now in the middle of december, if the buzzer is not working, they are in no hurry to fix it, it seems like this condo is in the businness for making money, i am still not sure where is my parking space, even though i dont have a vehicle, i have sent emails to certain people and have got no answer to my question, some things i did on my own, but they sure didnt forget to tell you, you need to give them a key to your unit, the realtor that put this condo up for sale said there were many copies of the keys to units, i could keep talking but i will stop here, and just pray and abide my time when i can get out, thanks for listening.

Well I just moved to this 55+ community in Florida. Got screwed by the park and the realtor. The HOA here is a joke. This community is a cash cow. They raise the rent every year saying it’s in a contract with the owners. They charge us for everything even property tax on the lot we don’t own. HOA says it won’t change. I say someone’s getting paid off here.

I have been a homeowner for 34 years without any problems with the HOA. They had a billing error which was not paid because the HOA could not explain what happened. In the meantime the delinquent account was sent to the HOA attorney for collections. I finally explained the billing error to the attorney and the association, but now the attorney is billing me for his legal fees. My choice is clear, either pay or risk getting a lien put on my house and having my credit ruined. The problem is not just with the HOA, but also with these attorneys operating legal fee mills for many HOAs knowing that homeowners would rather pay than risk losing their credit and their home.

Having Selective Enforcement problems with my HOA, I wrote their Registered Agent, whom is their Attorney, a total of 3 Cease and Desist Letters, which they never answered! I then hired an Attorney, and paid him $500 to write the HOA another Cease and Desist Letter, which they never answered either! I finally wrote the Ombudsman for Florida at 1940 North Monroe Street, Tallahassee, Florida 32303, but have not heard back from that office either! Seems the only way to get any results, is to have a large amount of people complain to the Government, then maybe something constructive will be done?

Which government agency? I have written all of them, Senators, Mayors, Representatives, and the WH. who do we need to get involved?

As a Disabled Senior in a 55 Plus Community, I have been discriminated against and even slandered by the HOA since I had my initial interview. The President tried to block the house sale to me, but was unable to do so, resulting in my being harassed ever since, in the hope that I will be forced to move. I was told I can not have cars parked on the street, yet the HOA has wine and cheese parties at various residents homes monthly, where cars take up the entire street. I was sent notices about my garage cans being exposed, which were covered by a wall. I was also sent a notice to pressure wash my driveway and sidewalks, which I had done even though it was not necessary. My neighbors however have driveways and sidewalks full of mold and rust, which they did not clean. During elections, I was not told who is running for what position, only names to vote on. Reporting the incidents to HUD was worthless!

believe me i know. my HOA is as corrupt as they come. they want my home so badly that they are changing the bylaws specifically to gain access to my home. i am in complete compliance as of today. never have i received a violation, a fine nor ever been late on any fees. but yet they sent me a threatening letter of foreclosure. no lawyer will even talk to me. i have a whole file full of corruption and I cant get any wears.
