Some products were checked out and at the end of it, we asked to total the bill, and it amounted to a lot more than we had... so we said we shall come back the next day... Some Singaporean guy (going by the name of eric---- with very bad oral hygiene) said NONONONO, we can't leave like that... i said ok... how about i take half... then this guy started to get very irritable. Naturally, I walked out... unfortunately they cornered my husband... he couldn't leave... demanded to take out the wallet... and took all the money he had ($1, 000) and let him go without anything...
Next day we went with someone who speaks their language and tried to negotiate... and he wouldn't budge... the negotiator told us these guys are very smart in how they conduct their business... as they did not physically threaten us there is very little the authorities could do... Some how the emotional trauma is not considered in these instances... So in the end we lost $1700 and got only 2 products.
I tell you... this is the worst of Singapore... its a shame...

SINGAPORE IS SHAME ON THE FACE OF THIS PLANET.
I am from Mainland China . I was not allowed in Casino at Marina Sands even after showing my passport. They have two lines, one for locals another for whites, and rest of Asians are treated in very bad manner, they have special checks. Many of them are not allowed with no good reasons. Have not seen this type of racism and bad attitude in Macau or any other casino or tourist places world wide.
I still wonder why people go to expensive Singapore where prices have been tripled for everything after economic fall-down to china. Now if we do not give business or other countries like India, this country will die and Singaporean will force to beg like Russian crisis couple of years ago or like Egyptians etc.
10 reasons not to visit Singapore.
1)Singapore immigration officers are horrible and bad attitude, ill tempered.
2) Airport Security staff demanding money, bribe, gifts due to economy getting worse.
3) Racism, Singaporean treat people from third world as very low and they have no human respect.
4) Any club, restaurant treatment according to skin color and nationality.
5) Overcharging, cheating common by shop-keepers, bribe culture has started.
6) Hotels cheating, poor service, high taxes and service charges.
7) Risky and unsecured tourist places with bad and poor quality equipment, rides also overpriced.
8) Locals drink on street after 10 pm. not very safe to walk.
9) common man of Singapore thinks he is next to god, and they think what they do is correct and no body can question them.
10) Most commercial locations are turning into sex shops, pole dancing junction, pick up joints and you find prostitutes chasing you all the time.
MANY Sex shops have opened in Sim lim square, it is turning into thug point.
Watch out singapore is no more safe country. Shop keeper cheats, airport security people ask for bribe, corrupt immigration officers.

Hi, I do also had a really bad experience with star one mobile. And has just reported it to Singapore Small Claim Tribunal. Hopefully the government can do something with this. I would suggest you to do the same
DO NOT GO TO THIS STORE! IT IS DANGEROUS AND A RIP OFF! I had an experience even worse than the above reports. On a recent visit, I negotiated a reasonable (but not fantastic) price for an iPhone 4. When I went to pay for the phone, the store attendant entered a price 30% above the value he had just agreed upon into the credit card machine. I refused to sign the receipt and told him that I would pay the price that we agreed upon, but no more. He said that there was an activation fee and insisted that he had told me about this previously, even though my friend who was accompanying me and I insisted he had not mentioned it. I continued to refuse to pay the fee he hadn't told me about. He then said he was going to call the police and proceeded to make a call. After this, he insisted that I wait in the shop until the police arrived. The whole thing seemed bizarre, so I tried to walk out of the shop. The attendant and some other employees blockaded me into the store and refused to let me leave. They pushed me, and said that I was trying to assault them. Employees of other stores watched but did nothing, so I called out asking them to call security. In the meantime, the attendant who had served (I should say manipulated rather than served) me in the first place had scratched his face, and was telling the other employees that this was an injury he sustained when I "attacked" him. The police arrived and were very professional. They watched the store CCTV recording and concluded that I did not assault the attendant (surprise!) as far as they could tell, but that it was difficult to see all the footage. The attendant then told the police that he would press civil charges if I did not buy the phone. The police explained to me that this could mean that I would not be able to leave Singapore (I was a visitor) until the case had been reviewed by another police officer (an "investigating officer"). Eventually, the attendant agreed to sell me the phone for a price closer to the one he had originally offered me, and I purchased it solely as an assurance that he would not press charges so that I knew I would be able to leave Singapore without having to go to court. When I was leaving, the police informed me that such events are common in Sim Lim square and that the locals do not shop there for this reason. DO NOT GO TO THIS STORE!
Sim Lim square has been the worst shopping experience. Some guy with obviously a fake name managed to steal $50 from us. I was after a canon photo camera and found the best deal in that very shop. The guy was very confident about the quality of his product and quoted a final agreed price of $800. I didn't have enough cash on me. So he told me to leave a $50 deposit otherwise I will lose the bid. I left the deposit as requested and collected the receipt. I ran to the bank and when I was back with the money, I was told another story. The guy said that there was another camera which was much better but was worth $1000 +. I refused to go for the other one but he became persistant and showed me an obviously fake canon camera with a poor lense. The very first canon he showed had a much better. So somehow he changed the camera lense to disuade me from buying the canon camera and instead go for the $1k weird camera. Obviously I refused and requested my $50 back but he said that the deposit was forfeited. There was no way of recovering the money. He even criticised me of not keeping my words! How ironic! Anyway I went to Singapore customer complaints department only to be told that they couldn't do much. It's a big shame for such a beautiful country. I felt very insecure over there and definitely don't want to go there anymore. I would advise every shopper to avoid going to Sim Lim. They are after your money and won't let you go unless you've given them a few bucks for nothing!
