My personal experience with Shelter Ins.
It’s amazing how a persons’ entire life can change in a blink of an eye. On December 23, 2024, that is exactly what happened to me and my husband. This year was the first Christmas season since 2020 that I was actually excited to celebrate since the death of two of our sons! My husband was excited for me because this was the first time I had put up decorations since the tragedies. We decided that we would go to Walmart to get out among the crowd and to possibly find some more little gifts to fill my traditional Christmas Box.
We left our home, headed to the main road. But before you get to the main street there’s a hill and a stop sign. As far as I know most people actually stop at those before they enter into traffic. Two vehicles were in front of us and soon it was my turn. I pulled up to the stop sign to check for a clearance to enter and (BAM) one of Shelters’ insured plowed into the back of us. The Lord was with us because our car rolled to the right instead of into the oncoming traffic. God’s Grace kept us, and there weren’t any fatalities! Our adrenaline was flying high, the sheriff came, awarded Shelters’ insured a ticket I assumed and we managed to get our beat-up Mercedes Benz back home.
This is when our troubles, woes, stress and struggles began! We have a host of physical ailments and now no transportation! We attempted to contact Shelter Insurance that day and the next to no avail. Our Christmas Holiday was ruined. We weren’t going to be able to make our trip to Memphis to celebrate with our family! Although being upset, aching and disappointed, we understood that Shelter Ins. was probably closed.
Christmas had come and gone and we were finally able to get medical assistance from our PCP. We tried to contact Shelter Insurance over and over and over to no avail yet again! I finally had someone reach out to me when I inquired on what I assumed was their message review board. About a week later an adjuster called. It took about two weeks for Shelter to put us in a rental. When they totaled out our car, the free rental went away. Keep in mind that this was our only means of transportation which we had already informed them of. None the less our dilemma didn’t seem to be their concern. We kept the rental for a week at our expense and decided that it wasn’t feasible to continue to pay. Knowing that my husband couldn’t continue to miss days from work we had to go and buy a piece of a car. This hunk of junk has quit on us almost every week! What can I say, things like that happens sometimes when you do things hastily, but we really didn’t have a choice, we needed something.
During this time we were given the name of the person that would be handling our personal injury claim. Now the nightmare becomes a night terror! Trying to contact this person was pure hell and stressful! I literally had to send her a demand letter to get a response. We weren’t seeking a cash cow. All we wanted is for them to be fair and make us whole again. We tried to work with Shelter. We followed every directive, submitted every document and got the run around. To make a long story short it took us a year to get slapped in the face. To our understanding from our court appearance, we should have sued Shelters insured instead of Shelter. Am I understanding this correctly, Shelter wants us to sue their client for our personally injuries? So why exactly do people pay monthly insurance premiums? Isn’t it to keep them from being liable if they are involved in an accident? I’m thankful that Shelter Insurance isn’t my insurance carrier! What say you?
All me and my husband got out of this ordeal are headaches, stiff necks, daily shoulder and back pains, numbness in our hands and feet, blood pressure issues, anxiety, phobia from the trauma, jacked up smile line, broken glasses, car issues, a boatload of expenses and undue stress!
THEY MAY AS WELL HAD TOLD US; (TO GO TO HELL) !
We’ve been living in it!
I’ve always been blessed to be healthy. I’ve never really ever had a headache! I use to power walk and work my weights for 4.5 to 5 miles a day from Monday through Friday. Now I can barely walk up the street, sit or stand for long periods of time without pain. I’ve never been on medications but now I pop pain pills and BC’s like they’re candy. I don’t sleep comfortably at night without being drugged up! Is this my fault?
From day one of dealing with Shelter Insurance was a total nightmare! We were treated as if we had done something wrong. To my opinion they may as well had said that neither one of you died so we don’t give a damn! To hell with your physical well being or expenses!
What say you?
My husband and I moved back to Tennessee from the Pacific Northwest because we missed the southern hospitality. A place where people actually cared and treated one another with respect. It doesn’t seem to be that way anymore! This world that we live in has gotten pretty crappy. No one whether pink, yellow, black, white, purple, green or blue should be treated as though they are insignificant! We didn’t deserve what happened to us nor the unscrupulous way that we’ve been treated! What happened to we apologize for your suffering and inconvenience?
But the God we serve is Mighty, He takes care of His own! My bite may be small to some but my voice is boisterous! I will sing my story to all that will listen! Jeremiah 41:10 “Fear thou not; for I am with thee: be not dismayed; for I am thy God: I will strengthen thee; yea, I will help thee; yea, I will uphold thee with the right hand of my righteousness.”
My story in its entirety will air on all social media platforms, media, blogs and pod casts. I will be the voice for us so called little people. We don’t have to sit quietly and be treated as if we’re less than! To my fans, I thank you guys for all the DMs and for being concerned about me. I miss you guys too, but I will be back on stage singing and performing as soon as I get my physical conditioning together. This setback will not stop me from doing what I love neither will I stop exposing this injustice! Wow, I might write a song about this too!
Keep checking my sites and share my story.
