BUYER BEWARE: My Experience with Service Pros Installation Through Lowe's
I want to start by saying that the employees at Lowe's were fantastic. They were professional, knowledgeable, helpful, and made the purchasing process easy. My complaint is NOT with Lowe's store employees.
My wife and I recently purchased a rental property and removed all of the old carpet and padding ourselves. We then purchased new carpet, padding, and installation through Lowe's. Lowe's contracted the installation work through Service Pros.
The problems began when Service Pros sent a representative named Terry to measure the home. He arrived late and was rude to my wife during the appointment. We chose to overlook that because everyone can have a bad day. Unfortunately, that was only the beginning.
When installation day arrived, we learned that Terry had completely left an entire room off the measurement paperwork. Because of that error, the installers did not have enough carpet or padding to complete the job.
The consequences were significant:
• We had to return and purchase additional carpet and padding. • We had to schedule and pay for a second installation appointment. • I missed work dealing with a problem that should never have existed. • We lost valuable time preparing the property for our incoming tenants. • The room that was omitted was intended to be used by the tenants' toddler.
The most frustrating part was dealing with Service Pros after the mistake was discovered. We received plenty of apologies but very little accountability or urgency. As many homeowners and landlords know, apologies do not recover lost wages, pay additional installation costs, or make up for project delays.
Ironically, the actual installation crew was excellent. The installers were professional, hardworking, and skilled. The failure occurred during the measurement, customer service, and management process.
As property owners who intend to continue purchasing and renovating homes, we will absolutely continue shopping at Lowe's because the store employees have always treated us well. However, after this experience, we will never again use Service Pros for installation services. In the future, I would rather pay a local contractor more money than risk dealing with this level of error and the resulting delays.
If you're considering installation services, ask detailed questions about who will be measuring your project and who will be responsible if mistakes occur. One measurement error can quickly turn into additional costs, lost time, and unnecessary frustration.
