This agency, purporting to be Attorney's at Law, Levied a lien of over $11, 800 against mine and my wife's bank account for an alleged debt owed. When calling the phone number provided (which no one answered, only an anwer phone, we are told that it is NOT an attorney but, rather, a collection agency. Naturally, this occured immediately AFTER my Social Security check was deposited so, we cannot even access those funds.
My wife and I have been on Social Security, unable to get work for two years. The money in the account and minimal savings was less than $5, 000 combined and came from scrimping on our Social Security (less than $2000 a month, our only source of income) We do not have any other retirement or pension income.
Now our account is frozen and we have no money to use for necessities: to eat, buy medications and pay bills, which will put us further force us into debt. Plus we will now owe overdraft fees to the bank. And add to that, the problems of following up to get this corrected and, perhaps, having to hire an attorney with no funds. This without any advance request for information pertaining to the account and any exempt status or requesting our attempts to work out a solution.
We were contacted in a most abrupt manner by a Mr Arrington at this law firm stating that he was a debt collector for JC Penney.
Money was owed to JC Penney but this gentleman treated my husband and I as if we were hardened criminals and made almost impossible demands for repayment of the debt in a most arrogant and demeaning way.
When the final settlement was made, he tried to make it impossible for us to make it in a timely manner, treating us as if we had no
brains and even though we are in the same state tried to make us send the payment in such a way that it would cost us an arm and a leg. He even called after the payment should have been in his office to make sure that the payment was made.
Each payment that we had made previously by regular US mail had arrived in his office and the check cashed within 3 days and he told us we had to allow for at least a week and send the check by Fed Ex in order for it to arrive in time. Needless to say, we sent it express mail on a Saturday morning and it was in Uniondale on Monday morning.
Throughout the process, Mr Arrington as extremely rude and demeaning and treated us with total disrespect.
We are paying off other debts through other agencies and not one of them has felt the need to give us a "get tough attitude".
I feel it unfortunate that such a company as JC Penney feels it necessary to stoop to such low means to collect a debt.

We have been fighting with GE Money Bank about a debt that we did not incur. They turned it over to Sharinn & Lipshie. We never received anything from Sharinn and Lipshie. We never received a summons or notification of a default judgment. We never received notification of the lawsuit, so how could we have appeared? The only way we found out about it was when our bank accounts were frozen and they took double the amount out. We were forced to pay them the money so that our accounts would be released. Our bank had to give us their information. How do they get away with this? We were held hostage. There was no talking to them. They had total control. They did not care that we did not incur the debt. I hope that enough people complain about their strong arm methods.
