It is definetly not a place for new stylists to start working there. I understand that they need to start somewhere to build clienteles. When I was interviewed there I had explain to the manager that I have not had any training in haircutting but was willing to learn. I had explained to the manager that I only knew couple of haircuts other than a straight cut however had no idea how to cut men's hair. She told me not to worry about it and that they will train me. When I started my training after watching people and asking questions I got comfortable. A day later the manager went on a two weeks vacation then a co-worker was out of work for awhile due to family emergency. The assistant managers were stressed out. One of the assistant managers is such a liar who will tell you one thing then tell you something different. She does not want to be called out on anything. I was told not to worry about time just do a great haircut. Of course we all will have complaints which is normal no matter where you work at from McDonald's to the corporation. I was making decent tips daily. She called the district manager and told her that she felt that I was not ready to be on the floor but was willing to work something out. I was to wait until the store manager return and train with her. I thought I was improved a lot since day one. When the store manager return I did not do any haircuts. I got bored after watching people doing haircuts. I did not really cared much for being a receptionist. Then the district manager return and told me that because I was not improving (which I disagreed but hey I guess was wrong) so she will have to let me go BUT she wanted me to be the receptionist for the weekend. She wanted me to keep in touch with them and apologize to me for hiring me in the first place. She told me that she apologize that everything were threw at me all at once but keep in touch with them. They would love for me to come back in 6months. I was upset but furious on the inside. I was civil and thank them for their time. I could not figured out why the store manager and the assistant manager didn't have the balls to tell me that. They had lost my license but few days later it had turned up. It took a week for them to give me my damn paycheck. I was not going to call them weekly to see how they were doing and re-apply in six months. However, it was not going to stopped me from applying at different salons and take more courses so I can continue to be better at my job. I was employed as a full time but was given a part time hours. They were already interviewing few more people while they was laying me off. I feel sorry for them. This one co-worker in particular alone with this assistant manager would watch me then whisper to each other. The girls were unprofessionals. They allow one co-worker to wear white strap sandal. I felt it was unfair. I was told about the dress code but not in specifics. For example, all I was told is to wear black solid pant and the shirt cannot have any logos. I did not know that I could not wear nice black jean. I could not wear tennis shoes but that did not bother me as much. I felt out of place and uncomfortabel for a little over a month. I did not trust anybody there. There was something fishy going on. I was glad that I was no longer employed by Great Clips. It was one thing to do your job but another to be working at the salon in NC.
I agree! GC treats you like ### and when you have customers that is rude to you the managers defend them. Where I was working at they do not want you to clean your station along with two other cleaning duties while you are on the clock. You have to do those things off the clock. They pay you minimum wages. Assistant managers are the worst. They lied to you so much. They treat you like dirt. You do not want to leave your license there. They may misplaced it and cannot find it for few days. They tell you to get your tools from places like Sally's then tell you that your tools is not "worthy." Favoristism is strongly noticeable. The work environment is horrible. You are not guaranteed your hours and things goes downhill after couple of weeks. The more I improved the less hours I recieved. When people get their checks I do not have mine until a week later. Thank God I am no longer an employee at Great Clips. I will NEVER recommend anyone of any states to work for GC.
The stylist should not have been rude to your child but should have been more professional to politely ask the child to sit still. Scissors, trimmers, and clippers are very sharp and no true stylist want to cut anybody's ear, skins, etc off. If the stylist did not use any tone or inapporpriate language then you need to give her a break. True that it is difficult for any child to sit still. I always try to encourage a child to sit still and that their haircut will be over before they know it but if they do not then it will take longer. Works every time.
I understand what you're going through. I had explain to the manager that I was just fresh out of beauty school without any training in men's haircutting and had taken some of the outside classes to learn as much as possible. However, most of the classes that I had learn outside of beauty school was mostly chemical (hair coloring, global keratin treatment, and so forth). I was told that I will be help and train by the other co-workers and she will send me to training school so I can get right on it.
As soon as I came in as my first day the manager was on two weeks vacation. I took on a receptionist duty so I can watch and learn as much as possible. It was dreadful not having any receptionist but it was helpful to try to learn as much as possible. Then couple of co-workers was out of work for several days.
I was doing good haircuts but felt so uncomfortable working there. I never got sent to a training school. I would get my paycheck late. I would have to deal with terrible customers but it was expected to happen sooner or later. One of the assistant managers was unprofessional and it seem as if she was out to get me. They "misplaced' my license for several days.
The assistant manager that was out to get me always twist her words around. She would tell me one thing then another. She had me placed next to her so she can help me if needed but always watching me every damn second. She would peek over then whisper to the stylist that was beside me and they both look at me. I felt as if they were gossiping about me in a negative way. The co-workers could do whatever they wanted to except me. They always corrected me. This new girl would do the same mistake that I would made but not be corrected on. That was ###ed up. I felt so unhappy, uncomfortable, and out of place for a while.
The assistan tmanager went behind my back calling the district manager to tell her how she felt about me. Not once did she discuss anything with me in private. She only discuss her issues with me in front of the district manager. They had their "i want you to quit" tone with me and told me that they felt that I was not ready to be their stylist but wanted to work something out.
I was to be trained on the floor for few hours as told by the district and store manager (who finally came back). Later that week, the store manager called my cell phone, house phone, and my emergency contact. It was not even an emergency so I do not understand why in the hell they call my emergency contact. She asked me if I could come in so she can have a chat with me. Automaticaly I knew that something bad was gonna happnen. I showed up and she asked me to go to the backroom. There was the district manager and she was waiting for the store manager to come in. THe store manager never came in. She gave me my license that supposedly went missing. She apologized to me saying it was their fault for hiring me. They cannot afford new experience stylist to work there. They preferred to have someone with at least 2 or more experience to be on the floor. She told me that if I want to be a receptionist for "important" weekend that would be acceptable but I could no longer be a stylist there. She told me that the training classes do not teach you how to cut hair but how to operate the GC style. Their dvds were pointless to watch and learn. She told me to call the shop weekly to see how they were doing and re-apply in 6months because she would love to have me working for her. I was thinking oh shut the hell up and give me my damn check. Whatdaya know they did not have my paycheck til a week later.
Great Clips will torture you, lie to you, shorten your hours, make you feel unappreciated, and devalued you. Few customers make you feel like ###.
We need to report all Great Clips to the Department of Labor.
I do agree that it would be nice if people tips better or give any at all but not everyone have the money to give a good sum of tips. However it would be nice if Great Clips stop paying us the minimum wage.
I would've cuss her out and punch her in the face. That was highly uncalled for. Her actions was inexcusable.
by the way "love my hair" shut up you do not know what you're talking about
You are not required to make an appointment for a haircut. Not only that the Great Clips that I work at only accept appointmnents over the internet and in store for hairstyles because we are a busy fast paced salon.
Great Clips are so full of themselves and lies so much to their employees. There are not any appreciation for the work they do. There are too many favoritism and unprofessionalism going on. They pay you minimum wages. It is a horrible place to work for. They make you feel less of a human being. Too much negativity, goofing around, and gossiping in the room. Too much backstabbing going on.
Whatever Kasey S you guys dont do ### but pretend to listen to complaints and do nothing to help improve the situation
Next time, it does not matter what salon you go to, tell the stylist specifically how you want the cut. Typically the stylist should ask you how you would want your child's cut before they do anything to his/her's hair. You cannot assume that people can read your mind. Just because it was pulled back does not mean you want to keep the tail.
If they did smell like alcohol then why would you allow him to cut your hair? Your story does not make any sense.
