I am on the same page with all the comments about GE washers and dryers. Seven months ago, after having a waasher and dryer that lasted me for 12 years, I purchased a brand new GE washer and dryer. The dryer worked twice. Since then, I've gone seven months without a dryer that works. Best Buy has been out a minimum of three times to repair the dryer (with no success). General Electric has been out to the house two or three times with no success. Initially, I had to run all over to buy the correct devices to install the electric dryer, as Best Buy told me one store had them, I'd get there, the store would not have those items in stock, and they'd send me on a wild goose chase to another store. After over eight hours of driving time, I found the products Best Buy said they needed and they installed the washer and dryer. However, now I'm being told that the electricity (which I've had upgraded several times over the past 12 years -- the washer and dryer is on it's own circuit breaker), is "wrong" and therefore I'm at fault and if I want a dryer that works, I have to buy a new one (again) -- even though I used the last new one twice. I'm astounded, have been deprived of the use of a dryer for over seven months, and have no hope in sight short of taking my losses and buying a new washer and dryer. (I also purchased the extended service repair agreement from Best Buy.) Best Buy says it's GE's fault. GE says it's my fault. It's a game called "pass the buck." Looks like I've lost. I'm going to try to get in under the lemon law, but from what I've read here, that won't work but I'll still try. I've blogged about this, called GE about it, called Best Buy about it, and frankly -- nobody cares. I thought GE was a name that could be trusted. It's not. I will never again buy a GE appliance -- big or small -- of any kind. I can't believe they're allowed to do business this way. If I did this, I'd be arrested for theft. Melody Beattie.
My complaint on my GE (or THE GE dryer) I purchased is so buried on this site it took me ten minutes to find it. When I searched complaints against GE Products, General Electric Products, or Best Buy -- nothing appeared. As I read my original purchase information more closely, more and more it appears that the sold me reconditioned appliances under the guise of them being brand new. I don't understand any of this. What I know is that I spent over $1, 000 at Best Buy in August of last year -- my dryer worked twice; it can't be repaired or won't be repaired, despite it being under factory warranty and me purchasing two extended warranties, one on the washer and one on the dryer. I keep wondering if this has anything to do with the Ads for General Electric Applicances on this site? I thought I was doing something productive by posting here. When I sent an email, i was told I'd "certainly get helpful comments soon that would advise what I should do." But how can anyone give helpful advice if they can't find or see my complaint? This is another way to stall, I'm guessing, until the original factory warranty runs out. Oh, and why did it take so long to complain? Because I live in two different houses, and didn't realize my dryer didn't work until I called in with my complaint.
I'm proceeding to the Attorney General's office. If I need to spend as much paying an attorney -- or more -- to prosecute this case, I will. I've been had and it's clear that help will not be forthcoming from posting a complaint here. Melody Beattie
Get this. After this complaint and three blogs about the infamous "GE Dryer from Best Buy that never worked, " Best Buy called me, gave me a "number, " and told me to go to the Best Buy closest to my home, give them the number, and I'd get a new dryer in return. I did as they said, however -- the dryer I originally purchased, the one that never worked, isn't manufactured or sold anymore. Tough. S out of luck, as they say. So, despite my "I've nevers" I posted above, I paid for an upgraded dryer and all the various hookup items it needs. I also thought I'd try a gas dryer this time, as the electric one caused so many problems that nobody could solve. I tried to get my extended warranty to carry over, but guess what? Because they no longer sold the dryer that was covered by it, I had to get another one (which I knew I'd need). Let's be honest. I knew from day one that I wasn't taking a chance: I could guarantee that the new dryer (to accompany the new washer that never worked) wouldn't work long. I thought at best I'd have two or three months of a washer and dryer that worked. But it beat taking a total bath on both appliances. Boy, was I wrong.
Best Buy, after taking my money, never bothered to deliver the dryer as they promised they would. My friend and I sat at my house all day watching the hours tick by and then it hit us: Best Buy isn't the Best place to buy anything from.
So I'm out another almost $200.00 and I still don't have a dryer that works.
This time, I don't have one that even exists.
