Regarding these cracks on my Acer TravelMate 5520, "user error" is just NOT a possibility...if you only knew me and how I treat my Acer like my baby.

As an earlier post stated, the unit is inherently stiff to open. I too have no doubt that this is a design flaw and Acer should stand behind it no matter what the age of the laptop.

Again, I treat my 3 year old Acer like it's made of glass...looks brand new. My Acer has been an amazing workhorse other than these cracks, which unfortunately started in the first year. They are large cracks on the right and left (outside of the laptop) starting at the outside corner of each hinge. These identical cracks travel diagonally toward the edge of the outside cover and BOTH cracks end up in the exact same place. The screws probably have something to do with it because when you open the laptop and draw an imaginary line where the cracks run, they go diagonal from the hinge in an upward direction and both are right above the 2 outer most screws on either side of the inside cover. (Above START on the bottom left corner and TIME on the right bottom corner but on the outside of the laptop cover.)

Anyone have ideas on how we encourage Acer to stand behind their product?
