Just happened to our MF!2568AES, exactly as described. Called the recommended 800 number, expecting no joy. Admittedly spent 20 minutes in the queue, but then the Whirlpool lady listened attentively, put me on hold for a minute while she did some research, then came back to say that they would fix it, but repair had to be carried out by a Service Techninician. Expected the worst, but she then confirmed no charge! It's Monday morning, and they are coming Friday morning - and I did ask her to confirm they would have an HV control board (this particular lady seemed familiar with the problem). I have disconnected the ice maker cable to stop the incredibly annoying noise, and hopefully will have everything sorted by Friday. Ironically, I had just dug out my trusty soldering iron and looked up my local Radio Shack, but I will leave it to the pros if no charge. I will try to remember to report back...
Hmmm... Whirlpool called back and said they would have to put the repair back to next Tuesday because they didn't have the part available (rather inconvenient). I was set to wait it out, but then realized that the compressor had ceased functioning and the fridge was warming up! Emergency relocation of perishables to the cellar beer fridge, deck etc. No way we would survive Thanksgiving without fridge, so made the trip to Radio Shack for the capacitors and did the repair myself. All seems to be working well!
Canceled the service appointment (after another 15 minute wait). Cannot really fault Whirlpool - they were all set to service this dog of a fridge at no charge 6 years after its warranty expired...
