Powhatan, Virginia Division of Child Protection Services review: Powhatan Division of Child Protection Services

Powhatan is a small good old boys county in Virginia. Small minded, yet the department is very powerful. If your child enters the system you will NEVER get them out...words of a court appointed attorney and an off the record Social Service worker! They need the money and funds based on how many children are in the system so it is almost predatory in nature. Poverty is not abuse, but the workers pray on the poor in this county. .Lawyers are expensive and the court appointed ones are so resentful there is no real defense. There is one Judge really and he holds all the power and relishes his position not on fairness. The department out right lies to get birth certificates they will say I am just making a copy and will never return it. the social worker will ignore all your emails and pleas they will lie on behalf of your child. I asked if my child wanted to come home and they always said no yet he told me different. They set us up for family counselling with an unlicensed councilor! I can go on and on. They lied to my son and said I was not interested in him when I spent all my time and money fighting the system which they would draw out on purpose. They placed him with families who had no other qualifications then they had money. I knew the mother socially who was a fall down, alcoholic but because they had money, there my child stayed . Sadie Tyree was the social worker three months out of college. who handled and fumbled through at our expense. She was rude and inept. she would hang up the phone frequently and when I spoke to her superior I can see where she picked up this rude habit. The councilor like I said was un licensed and they knew that because my councilor at the same center told me so. My councilor implied the councilor assigned to us for family was not qualified and through the three times we met, I realized why, but when i tried to ask to be reassigned I was turned down. The councilor actually covered my mouth with her hand when I was talking! and said we are not talking about this now! COVERED MY MOUTH! I realized there was no one interested in my concerns. I want this out there so my son knows how hard i fought to get him home. I want him to know how this powerful yet foolish county runs Selfishly motivated they separate good families for their paychecks. The other child at his foster home said they discourage her too from communicating with her family (her mother). So it is not just my story. These people go unchecked the cases go unchecked. I will forever hold these people accountable for the trauma inflected upon me and my family and my son who spent years feeling like I never cared. my cards my communication never got to him. It is a travesty! .
