I bought a kitten from this cattery only for her to be diagnosed with FIP a few months later and die. It cost me thousands between the price of the kitten, vet bills, supplies, euthanasia and burial. Dawn and Avi were in denial and did not reimburse me. FIP is a very devastating disease common in many catteries. Do yourself a favor and save yourself the misery of having a cat with FIP. Stay far away from this breeder.

Hi, To the person who purchased a cat with Cryptorchidism. This is not something that can be completely known about when animals are kittens or puppies some of them take their time dropping their testicles. I have had Show cats, and I have a Champion Doberman Pinscher. Kittens and puppies can pull their testicles up and it CAN take a while for the testicles to drop. When I took my show quality Male Doberman puppy to the vet for his 3 months shots the vet could NOT find his one testicle. She said sometimes because they aren't developed yet and having fully dropped it can feel like Cryptorchidism, by the time he was 6 months both testicles had dropped and he was in the show ring. You have to realize that breeders can't predict everything that can happen, they stack the odds in their favor, but you have to remember these are LIVING creatures. I have a pixydust Birman and she is a feisty lovable creature. I also have an AKC champion Doberman. I myself years ago was going to breed persion cats. I showed my Queen to her championship and we found that PKD had shown up on her Dam's side, I immediately spayed her. Also, there are health tests that are only as good as the day they were taken. I'm sorry that your kitten had Cryptorchidism, however it is something that can and does happen with animals. I wouldn't complain about the breeder for something like that. There are without a doubt unethical and backyard breeders, but there are also ethical and responsible breeders. If you received a health cert and vet records for your kitten it shows that the breeder had the kitten examined and took loving care of the kitten. Breeders can NOT predict everything that can go wrong, they can only do their best to stack the odds in their favor. My Persian queen who was found to have PKD in her line we didn't know because her ultrasounds were normal, but when a relative was found at 5 years old to have PKD I spayed my queen because it was the right thing to do, now my queen was to young to have a litter so I got lucky in having her spayed before we breed her, however, if we didn't find out about the pkd until after her first litter she may have given birth to kittens with the possibility of one or some of them having PKD once again because that test at the time was ONLY as good as the DAY it was taken.

I purchased a beautiful kitten from Dawn in March of 2014. First I have to say that I absolutely love this kitten. He is beautiful and wonderful. My complaint is that one of his testicles had not descended (Cryptorchidism) which Dawn never told me about. This is not something which could have been missed by an experienced breeder such as Dawn. I received a paper from Garden State Animal Hospital stating "From information provided by my examination, it is my opinion the above described feline is free of all disease." That is true because it is not a disease, however, my vet and other experienced breeders have said this information should have been given to me. When my kitten was neutered, the vet had to open his belly and find the missing testicle and remove it. This cost me additional money and he now has a scar on his belly. So, I would say try to find another breeder, however, don't completely rule out Pixydust. If you do purchase from them, take the kitten to your vet right away. Dawn had taken him the day before and told me I did not need to take him until he needed his next shot. By then we had all fallen in love with him.

I bought a female kitten from Pixydust in June 2009. In October 2011, she died unexpectedly from Congestive Heart Failure (she was seen by Mark Magazu at Swedesboro Animal Hospital). I tried to reach out to these breeders to inform them of this, by phone and email, just in case they were having issues with the breeding lines, etc. and never heard from them at all. I was pretty disappointed.

We fully disagree as well. We brought home a wonderful, sweet boy kitten from Avi and Dawn at the end of November 2013. Scout is healthy and thriving. He is FIP negative. Dawn and Avi are fantastic and care very much about their cats. We highly recommend them to all.

I disagree with Jain127, I have sent several messages to this person. To please call me and I have received no response. I have never had anyone contact me with a loss of a kitty with FIP. I do not know who this is so I'm unable to contact them. This is Dawn

Dawn, you can disagree all you want but the fact of the matter is you sold me a sick cat who died of FIP at 1.5 yrs old. It was confirmed through many tests while alive and finally the necropsy. You ended up admitting it and with all the grief I went through you send me back my money. That was the least you could have done. I went through absolute hell dealing with that. I see this is not your only complaint since then. You've sold other cats with FIP, congestive heart failure, testicular problems etc. Its a shame you would continue to breed after so many devastating and heartbreaking illnesses. Please do yourselves and so many other innocent people a favor and shut down your cattery. All the other health issues aside, having FIP in the lines should be enough to shut down for good.

I disagree! The owners of Pixydust are caring, honest and wonderful people. One phone call with them will tell you everything you need to know about them. Sincerely, Mark Jr. and the family at Saint Francis Veterinary Center of South Jersey
