For over 1 year we have been dealing with Oreck trying to get a Rinse-A-Matic carpet cleaner that worked. We purchased a rebuilt unit directly from Oreck on line on Feb. 11, 2007. The first Rinse-A-Matic sent to us could not be used because the wheels kept falling off. Instead of refunding our purchase price they said they would send a replacement Rinse-A-Matic, once we returned the 1st defective unit.. We had to find box large enough, package the unit for shipment, and take to a UPS store.
The second Rinse-A-Matic sent to us had a faulty power cord and kept tripping our home's circuit breaker. It would not operate for more than 7 - 8 minutes before the circuit breaker would trip. We were instructed to take this unit to an Oreck retail store to be fixed. The store has had the unit since Dec. 29,2007, over 5 weeks. They can not get a replacement cord sent to them to repair the Rinse-A-Matic carpet cleaner.
Oreck will not stand by this carpet cleaner. They give you a 1 year warrenty but fail to inform you that it starts the day you place your order and does not give you another 1 year warrenty when a replacement unit is sent. They also do not tell you these are demos. Their customer service will tell you rebuilt and demo are the same thing. To return the defective unit they charge you a 30% restocking fee, which sounds like they intend to re-stock a defective unit and send it out to another customer.
We will never purchase another Oreck product. The quality of the Rinse-A-Matic cleaner is poor and Oreck's customer service personnel are one of the least customer friendly departments I have ever encountered.
