I went to the ER at the Oceanside Hospital in Port Charlotte, FL in Nov. 2012 for a strange rash that I had broken out with. I was on vacation there, and didn't know how serious it was. When I arrived at the ER, there were a few people sitting in the waiting room. After a while the people gradually joined there family member or friend that they had come with. And so I realized that I was the only one In the waiting room to be seen, at the time I had arrived. And I had already been there for about 2 hours. When I was finally called back to a room, the nurse was pleasant, and checked me in. Then he left the room and I waited for the DR. For an unusually long time since everyone in the waiting room before me had already left. I thought I would be next. No, wrong. When the DR. finally came in he was rude and impatient. It wasn't my fault if it was busy that night. I deserved to be treated decently, with respect. He was in the room very briefly, he ordered some lab work. And when the results finally came back he said I had virus, and not to worry about it.
Now, the thing is, As rude as he was,
and as much waiting as I had to endure ...
The DR. himself charged $1, 335.00 for his services that night.
This is outrageous! When my insurance company got the bill they paid their going rate for the services provided, and that amount was $568.10 Now the hospital billing agent keeps billing me $766.90 for which I feel I should not have to pay. It is over and above the normal rate for our area, and he was not very professional, and I had to wait so long to be seen. This bill is outrageous. I should not have to pay this much. If any, they should reduce it greatly. No wonder health care costs are so high, and climbing.
