I am recovering from opiate addiction and have been in treatment for several years. After getting frustrated with my lack of progress with Suboxene treatment I looked to a methadone clinic as an alternative. They promised me "graduation" after 90 days compliance. At 60 days we had a treatment team meeting and I was told I was considered compliant and looked forward to graduation because it would mean less trips to the clinic. (The first 90 days participants essentially go every day for dosing- the clinic is not open on Sunday so clients on first level get one take home dose on Saturday).

During the 90 days it seemed that the dosage might not be appropriate but adjustments required an EKG to warrant changes. I had multiple EKGs but the doctor never had time to read them to determine whether the changes should be made.

Then at 90 days, although I'd been compliant I never "graduated". Graduating meant not having to go every day. I was traveling to the clinic with an approximate hour round trip via a Medicaid driver.

Over two weeks after I was supposed to graduate, and without ever getting the adjustment in my dosage, I was refused my dosage. I was going through horrible withdrawals and the clinic staff were convinced i was "on something". Uh, THEY put me on something and I was crashing. Admittedly, I have other (mental health) issues, but rather than "treating" me they just refused me.

It was a horrific day, in so many ways. I live in a community with very limited options and not getting my dosing has resulted in me having to leave the area I live in and have family in to go to a facility hours away from everything I know.

While I was seeking alternative treatment and explained what had taken place other facilities said that the NMTS actions were unethical and irresponsible. I have to agree.

I DO NOT RECOMMEND NEW MEXICO TREATMENT SERVICES! Additionally I feel that director Suzanne behaved inappropriately, asking me and my driver questions unrelated to my treatment.
