Netcom Information Technology review: Scam 16

I need to aquire training for many company employees across the country. Is there a training company you recommend?

I am a frustrated instructor. Netcom pays the trainers wages that are half that of other training companies. That's why trainers call out sick or are just not the quality you would expect. Community college trainers make more! Many of my peers hate working for them and many of the representatives will just outright lie to you. They will nickel and dime you for expenses and expect you to perform while you are fretting as to how to make your mortgage. They also pay late. They might have been learning partners of the year, but that's not because of the quality of their training, it's because of the money they are generating by their business practices.

I attended classes with Netcom in New York City, all at my own expense. I must say the first two parts were presented by a very professional and knowledgeable Mr. Joseph DeChiaro. My issue erupted when arriving for the third and final portion of the AutoCAD Bootcamp, Mr. DeChiaro called in sick. Netcom refused to return my money. I requested a new class date but was told I would need to fly back to New York to attend. Again, I requested a refund for the missing instruction. I was told to wait and a course would be taught in my area (Chicago) but a course was never run in my area. Again, I requested a refund. Netcom refused. I wrote, called, sent fax and email. Netcom still owes me over $1000 and still refuses to pay. They stole my money. Netcom can reach out to me anytime: berjo77@yahoo.com I would love to hear from you. As of yet they've never reached out to me. I lost $5000 to these rip off artists. BUYER BEWARE!

I am looking at taking a boot camp in Las Vegas for CCNA and CCDA. I have previous experience but want to ready, and I mean make sure I pass the Cisco Tests. From what I read hear I am now concerned that Netcom is not the way to go. The thing about Cisco courses is one needs a lab i.e. Cisco gear to ready for the tests. Now I am not sure I want to go as well, this will come out of my own pocket initially. Any response is greatly appreciated.

This place is terrible. As Frustrated put it above, the Sales Managers and Educational Consultants are not up front with you and they in fact enroll you in class while withholding vital information from you such as need prerequisites. Unfortunately as the Netcom rep stated they have been recognized by Microsoft as a training center. They like a lot of other training and testing centers deal in so much volume that they can afford to do so much BAD business because the technology industry isn't slowing and there is always someone willing to pay them. The fact that they are recognized by Microsoft only means that they use approved training materials and official Microsoft products.

Their corporate attitude is "they are there to help the student achieve their educational goals by whatever means necessary" while their actual practice is "throw enough [censored] at the wall and see how much of it sticks on payday."

I work for Dell as a systems analyst, before that I worked for Apple in Cupertino, Ca. Here in Austin, TX, despite having such a tech savvy industry, we are somewhat limited in places we can go for training due to the requirements for on the job training. Despite having a formal education and numerous certifications Dell requires certain positions to take a required amount of coursework per year. Dell pays for certain courses and tests and pays you while you train but the caveat is that the training has to be done at Netcom.

As an SA and IT professional for 9 years I can honestly say that Netcom is a JOKE. Of the 14 classes I have had to take from them this year alone I have not had a single teacher that actually gave a [censored] about what they were doing. One class was cancelled because the instructor was so inebriated that he was arrested in the parking lot after running his car into the building. Another instructor got into a fight with hispanic student which was later described by police as a "gang related incident." All of this and more without a single apology from the facility administrators or management. Countless phone calls, e-mails and hand written letters to the corporate office went not only unanswered but met with hostile backlash from the sales managers and ed consultants.

If you have an option as to go here, go somewhere else, or train on your own...go somewhere else or train on your own. The best and most affordable method for most is to train on your own. Microsoft offers the majority of their training coursework through O'Reilly Publishing. Sometimes you can find used copies on eBay or through Craigslist. This plus using the power of the almighty web will be a much more sound environment for learning and test prep. I think someone above suggested joining a local technology club which is a great idea.

Believe it or not you can also take a lot of these classes at your local community college or technical university for FREE if you audit the course (meaning you take the course without gaining credit.) A LOT of major, private, and independent universities do this to meet certain civil requirements. I have done this in the past when I was at Apple and found that this method proved much more reliable(and cheaper) than if I had paid the jokers at Netcom. Now, like I said, Dell is picking up the tab now so I don't have much choice.

Be smart and understand that while you may be spending a lot of money for classes at Netcom, the inflated expense does not necessarily correlate to quality. I've been taking classes there enough to know first hand that their polished appearance is nothing more than a polished turd.

I took a class @ Netcom in Vegas... a Week long PMP class... it was pretty weak... you are supposed to be prepared to take the PMP exam after the course... well the instructor rushed through the material and left very little time for clear explanation. I'd think a person could do much better & save $$$ by getting some reading material, videos and CD's and join the local PMP chapter. I had signed up for another course but since I was so disastified with my previous course I wanted to cancel but they are telling me the money is non refundable... NOT a good way to do business...

I also did my due diligence when researching this school and querying the sales people.
They used deceptive sales practices to get my business. Such things as not letting me know that they were prerequisites for taking the Oracle courses. They were adamant about this when I told them clearly and plainly that I had no prior experience within the Oracle environment, and that I was in fact a total beginner. They just wanted to be paid and had no regard for my professional advancement.

Let the buyer beware is all I'm saying.

I will be taking a Boot Camp with this company in the near future, i hope it goes well and i will update once i am done.

i could not form my own opinion from the reviews on here, it seems like the courses they offer, you should know a little something about them, or should ask questions yourself to find out if they will be able to teach you what you do not know.

I am going to be taking their A+ Network+ course, i have previous experience with both, and was informed the class i will be taking should be able to fill me in on what i need to know.

I just didn't have a poor experience I had poor experiences. It happened twice.
I did air my complaints many times to your Sales manager N. Hasan with no appreciable positive outcome. I've also reached out recently to your Educational Consultant K. Gosserand.

I'll be more than happy to let all know how you folks resolve this with me either in a positive way or a negative way.

I clearly stated that Netcom uses deceptive sales practices to dupe people with no prior computer experiences into taking the Oracle courses without ever telling them that there are prerequisites for taking such courses. Can I make that any clearer to you?

Do you ever learn anything in a class that you couldn't learn in a book? Aren't they teaching you information from a book? Did you have any computer knowledge before you went to the class? It is one thing to rant about what you think was a scam, but provide information that we can use to help us ask the correct questions if we are going to use these guys.

I read the above post and instead of thinking they are a bad training company, it appears you thought they could teach anyone off the street Oracle, that is just silly.

I just took the intro to SQL classes. They're a total rip off. You learn nothing you couldn't learn on your own from a good book. I paid five thousand dollars to this school to become an Oracle Database Professional. They're a total scam. The instructor is horrible because he clearly states that he's underpaid and the used car salesmen who pitch the courses to you use likes like "if you can use a mouse then you can pass this course". They lack scruples by just taking your money and not telling you that there are prerequisites for these classes. I so regret going there. If anyone knows of a legitimate school for Oracle certification please post it.

I was looking in to taking some SQL Server classes there. Can you be more specific? What class did you take?
