7 Des 2015 about 8 pm, I bring my husband to ME Orchard because he had blood clot when he blew his nose. After seeing a & e doctor, we agree to do blood test as recommended. Then we settled the a&e bill and was told to collect the test result the next morning. After that we went to lucky plaza to have dinner, abd then the a&e doctor called my phone and told me to come back to hospital because my husband platelet levelnya is very low. We went back to a&e and the doctor recommend us to do the dengue test. The result was positif dengue with my husband's platelet level at only 10. The a&e doctor told me that my husbands condition was serious and especially after he had learned that this his second dengue attack. He take immediate action asking the a&e nurses to call doctor ting wen chang and taking blood sample to match the blood group for platelet infusion. My husband is already laying in a&e bed because he is feeling weak, the time is around 10.35pm at night. Both my husband and me have been chasing the a&e nurse to get the blood sample quickly since we were worried especially after the a&e doctor explained they need 2 hours to match blood sample properly. And at 11.05 the nurse took my husband blood sample. We also asked the nurse when can my husband receive the infusion, the nurse said about 3 to 4 hours. After taking the blood sample we were asked to chose the room type. We want the single bed but it is not available. The nurse said because my husband have been hospitalised in indonesia, we can either choose to upgrade to executive deluxe suite or chose cohort double bed, sharing room with patient who had been hospitalised from other country. Because my husband is in weak low body immune state, we chose the executive deluxe room. The nurse do the paperwork and ask me to the admission. It was 11:25 when im in admission. I was received by a man in the admission (didnt know his name) and was explained all the basic thing that i already know because my family have been going to mount e from many2 years ago. Because it is almost midnight and my husband still in a&e, I asked him today will be counted as the 7th or 8th and reconfirm the question by asking him if my husband were to be discharged at 9am at 9th of december how many night would the hospital charged me. I have been hospitalised in mount e many times because i give birth to all my children in this hospital. I know for sure that if you check in at 11 pm plus at night it would be counted the next day. My sister in law had also experience the same thing when she was admitted here. We are no stranger to mount e hospital. So i am very confused when the admission guy answered it would be count as 2 nights if he were to check out 9dec morning. I complained to him and at the same time, my husband was being wheeled to admission by the a&e nurse before going to the room. When he learned the situation, he too was very upset because he also knows the hospital very well. He in weak condition tried to tell him his experience doing admission for my sister in law and me previously by informing the name of my sister in law and the admission staff at that time was indian lady. And still the guy ignoring myhusband experience and act like he is ready to debate with my husband further and win it (for me, he is more suitable being a politician than admission staff). He repeatedly said "hospital policy is like that". Since I didn't want myhusband who has 10 platelet get angry and worse his condition, I said if so then we prefer wait for 45 minutes than hospitalized now. I chose this because I learned from a&e doctor that hospital need about 2 hours to 3 hours until my husband get platelet infussion. And very upset is the admission guy straight away also said it cannot be done and also counted as 2 night. At that point we are very angry. Suddenly the woman who worked beside him in the admission involved in this arguing by asking him call by phone to a&e to get approval. Then a&e nurse who was with myhusband spoke on the phone and less than 30 sec got approval to be counted as 8th dec admission.(Oh My Godness...). And He seemed unhappy, he only told us that ok we would be counted as admitted at the 8th and proceed with the paperwork. He did not apoligize and we just talked of what is needed, meanwhile my husband was already wheeled in to the room. After he handed me the paperwork i went up the room, room 6007 executive deluxe suite. Midway there, i met with Doctor Ting who had come and was looking for my husband to be examined. We went up together, during the walk, i asked him whether platelet level at 10 is life threatening. He said YES!. I was quiet and worried. When we reached the nurse station of the suites, we were told that my husband had not yet arrived. The doctor complained because he had went up previously and told to go down, and up again only to find him nowhere (perhaps because of long arguing session with admission guy). We waited for about 5min and the nurse showed up with my husband. At about 11.50pm we enter the room, Dr Ting told us that he would give my husband platelet infusion and that he were to be careful and cannot walk around. He also asked me to watch for any bleeding. When asked when can my husband have the infusion the doctor said, Dr ting said about max 4 hours. Since it's life threatening, also In front of Dr Ting I asked the nurse to let me know if there is anything I can do to expedite the tranffusion earlier. She said yes she will follow up. So we wait and wait. My husband couldn't sleep because of worries and always looking at the door hoping the tranffusion coming. I cant sleep because I also very worried and all the while I keep asking how my husband is feeling because I read in the internet low platelet level can cause organ failure. Everytime the nurse come to check him we would ask if the infusion is ready. At 2am ( 3 hours after blood sample was taken), My husband called the nurse and asked the infusion and the answer is to be patient and wait. At 3am(4 hours after blood sample was taken), Myhusband called the nurse again and the response is totally the same. At 4am(5 hours after my husband blood sample was taken), my husband called the nurse again and the answer is still the infussion not ready yet. At 4:30 i decided to go to the nurse station and ask about the infusion where is it now actually. she called someone in front of me and then explained that the transport will be going in 20min, so plus travelling time the infussion will be received around 5am. At 5am, the same nurse that i spoke with at the station came to the room saying that she apoligise because the infusion have not come. she also repeated that she doesn't understand because usually Max 4 hours from blood sample taken. At 5.40 My husband started to feel weaker and he called the nurse and asked to speak to someone in charge. At around 6 the nurse night shift manager come to us and said that the platelet infusion hv not come because the a&e nurse missed the scheduled transport at 11:30 and my husband blood sample was only delivered at 3:30am to SGH. She also said Dr ting did not chose the rapid mode so thats why they must follow the transportation schedule. And if it were to be specially brought there would be additional surcharge. We were angry and shocked because we were not informed of that option especially because my husband is in serious condition requiring quick actions and on top of that i have told the nurse at the station that we want the infusion quick and that to let us know if there are other options to bring the infusion quickly. My husband after taking some deeper breath was angry to the nurse and questioning what for a&e doctor on 10pm previous night called him to be hospitalized soon if only to lay on the bed and didn't get proper treatment. Myhusband come here from indonesia to singapore, choosing Mount Elizabeth Hospital and staying at executive deluxe suite for 3 reason : Treatment, Facility and hospitality and He doesn't get proper treatment and hospitality. Then She said that the infusion is on the way and we will receive it within 30 min. Finally at 7.20am (8 hours and 20 minutes after blood sample taken), My husband received the transfusion. 8 hours and 20 minutes after blood sample was taken! My worst 8 hours 20 minutes in my life. Both of us and all of our family were worried sick within that 8, 5 hours wondering if any complications would develop while waiting for the transfusion. His platelet reading was 176 on 3rd december but was falling rapidly to only 10 on the 7th. we were very much dissappointed (if not too dissappointed) at mount elizabeth orchards Very Poor Handling of the 10 platelet left patient. More than ten years We have always trusted mount e on all our family's medical matters but now is changing our mindset on the hospital after this incident.
