As a previous patient of Minh Han when he formerly practiced at Prohealth in Manchester CT (He no longer does) I believe all MDs should adhere to their oath "First Do No Harm". It is not my intention to disparage Minh Han. It is actually very difficult for me to write this.

As a male PhD I also experienced sexual abuse as a young man so I am very sensitive to this issue.

Although Minh Han is a very very accomplished doctor in many ways (I edited a book he wrote about his many positive experiences as a doctor). I simply cannot believe he is still practicing in several other locations in CT after admitting during a Hartford Courant interview that he sexually abused a male patient he had been seeing for 10 years on two separate occasions in 2017. (see below).

He may have been "equitted" but he is now continuing to practice in other CT locations. I am concerned that he or his attorney will prosecute me for slander since he was "equitted". I have not heard from him or his attorney.

The fact that he admitted to sexually abusing another male who had been previously sexually abused and who became extremely traumatized makes me no longer trust Minh Han despite whatever he has done for his former patients, and his missionary and other work.

Although I don't know all the details of the case (he refused to discuss them with me and I couldn't find them documented on the internet) and despite all his training, the fact that Minh Han personally admitted guilt means he should use his many many talents to pursue another career.

The known recidivism rate for sexual abuse is appalling. As is the medicals profession protecting "their own" due to the shortage of good and "ethical" doctors.

It takes a lot of courage to accuse a doctor of sexual abuse and it is unclear to me if other cases associated with him might have been unreported.

If he were a "standard" citizen accused of sexual abuse with corroborating evidence by himself, I believe he would be put on a sexual abuse registry and prohibited from seeing individuals similar to the one he abused.

The current number of sexual abuse cases of women by high level/powered individuals seems astonishing. The recent revelation of sexual abuse of many boys by priests is also startling. Doctors should be held to a higher standard.

I asked Minh Han how he would change so that this would not happen again so I could trust him again based on my sexual abuse history and he became very defensive and told me I didn't know the case and should just provide his positive traits to his attorney.

I did not provide the traits to his attorney after saying I would as I thought his response to me was evasive.

I feel future patients should be aware of his admitted abuse of a male patient on two recent separate occasions and that he continues to practice in several CT locations.

See the courant article as well as the Journal Inquirer article which you can "google".

I was one of his patients. I had an interesting experience with him regarding an std test. He behaved very strangely, during the test and it was a big red flag. One of my last visits b4 all the criminal stuff went down. It has dampened my trust with those in the medical profession. I asked to get tested for gonorrhea. What I assumed was going to be a blood test. He insisted on the swab, saying it was the only way to get an accurate test for all stds. I decided to trust him, he was always pretty knowledgeable and thorough so I didn't think much of it at first. Then he told me it works better if I was erect. He asked me to make that happen and left the room. I did not try, because it sounded like [censored]. When he came back in, I told him it wasn't going to happen. He seemed dismayed and offered to help. I gave him a firm no and had him do the swab as things were. He chuckled at my discomfort and told me some people find the sensation pleasurable, then took it upon himself to show me images of "sounding" on his laptop. I was embarrassed. I kept going to him every two months for a while to get my Adderall prescription refilled. I had a bit of a problem with them and my need for an easy refill exceeded my need for comfort. Looking back, , I think he knew that. This is the first time I've shared this experience with someone other than my partner. And even now the shame of it makes me want to delete this after I'm done, but I'm tired of it. Being quiet. I owe him nothing. When I saw the news of his offense, I thought about reaching out with my story, but because of the Adderall usage, I didn't want to get involved. If he's still practicing he shouldn't be. He will do it again.

Hello,

I had a similar experience with Dr. Han's "STD" testing method. He had a strange fascination with my genitals. Although I knew he was a gay man, I did use him as my primary physician for many years. Over the last several years, I've experienced a lot of hesitancy about coming forward.

If I can help, let me know.

In the past I was a patient of Dr. Han's and initially was very fond of him. I saw him at multiple offices depending on his schedule. I always respected how he even saw me for reasonable out of pocket costs when I didn't have insurance. I admired his medical mission trips and desire to serve others in need. For many years his husband / partner Mike worked as his office manager. I was a patient of his in those days. I always thought Dr. Han tried to do a little too much in the office. For a time he even did blood draws in office though he would complain to me that he didn't really know why he was doing it because he only got paid about $5 per patient. I kind of appreciated how he shared with me the "dollars and cents" of the medical business. I feel horrified had some of the things he was accused and was either convicted or settled (for the civil suits) of doing. I think that his inappropriate behavior the male patients accelerated when his relationship with Mike ended. At that time Dr. Han was desperate and lonely, which of course is no excuse. He was in a position of trust. He was never really inappropriate with me although there was an awkward moment once. He did a testicular exam on me and showed me how to do it. He did have gloves on. I can't remember if he touched the head of my penis or not but he kind of playfully chuckled and asked me if I was circumcised or not. He wanted to talk about it because he said "sorry I couldn't tell". Aside from that -- I can't say my years with him were really that bad. I'd give him a B+. I have never had a steady primary care doc since.

I’ve had a similar experience with Dr Han in 2011. After seeing I now know this was a pattern.

The sexual assault comments on here are not the only issues. He was very negligent in general about serious medical conditions he admittedly did not know enough about to treat, but used discouraging wording & tone from giving referrals to specialists - this was to the parent about the child patient. He also did not ever express any concern or offer to see a specialist about a condition that proved to be permanently altering to the physical structure and causing great pain. After seeing a specialist years later, the condition was so progressed that they would not treat it. It was past the point of treatment & could cause more irreparable harm than leaving it as is. This condition treated in the years while the body is still growing & forming (not yet a full adult) is commonly treated with good long term outcomes. There were several comments throughout the yrs that demonstrated he had an over focus or obsession of sexual matters. They were inappropriate in ways they were mentioned & certainly not appropriate statements or behaviors for a professional, especially a medical professional who treated children as well as adults. There was an incident of shaming in the waiting room around other patients over parent wanting to be present with very young male child during physical exams ( and not leave child alone). It threw up warning signals & felt the same as when an abuser shames to justify or continue doing what they want. ( I say this from having been in that position many time throughout life where there has been abuse - this had the same key markers & felt the same). Of course the shaming did not work & the child did continue to be supervised. He also intentionally blocked & withheld very serious medical information & condition of a young adolescent to parent - & even wrote in his medical notes ( a copy was obtained after the fact) that he will not discuss the matter with the parent implying or stating his personally perceived right to patient confidentiality with a minor due the the medical condition involving a private part. It was not hiding the minor’s sexual activity from the parent, in fear that the child would stop sharing with their doctor & therefore not get medical treatment for anything related to sexual activity. This condition was not that, it was however something that needed treatment that the adolescent freely informed parent of at home after being told the name of their condition during an exam. He (the doctor) was well aware that the parent was aware, but would not discuss the physical & reproductive harms associated with this medical condition, nor discuss with the parent treatment options, nor give the parent more information to look into the fact there may need to be behavioral health treatment as well. He also injected a young adult/minor (would have to get medical records to confirm the age, but between 16-19, think maybe 18); injected them with 1st dose of vaccine for HPV without waiting for the teen’s consent to do so, nor explain anything about the vaccine. The teen patient ( I am pretty sure a legal adult, I believe 18 bit would need to confirm with medical records or the patient) ; they told the parent afterwards that he (the doctor) did it so fast they did not have time to respond or object or ask questions. The teen patient felt remorse over not being given the opportunity to question or decline. The doctor this chain of reviews is about exhibited these & other examples of gross medical negligence to the family (2 children & 2 adults were being treated) , and overstepping parent boundaries, & inappropriate conduct with the sexual based comments on occasion, & intimidation over parent seeking to be present during young child’s exams (parent doing this for the purpose of avoiding any sexual abuse in general from any individual by any means). I really hope he is no longer practicing & not in any leadership positions to have influence or opportunity to abuse others - and is held accountable for actions to the point of the behaviors not continuing to others in the future. I also hope the doctor comes to terms with wat they have done, as well as the things that were done to them growing up & in their lives that caused these things. I hope they heal & find forgiveness for themselves & live a good life free from condemnation over any past actions they healed from & no longer do. This is my hope & prayer for everyone, but the wrongs need to be stopped. There was no support for the parent to validate what they noticed & experienced - otherwise this would have been reported. When the withholding of information occurred with teen patient, the parent pulled them from being a patient. All 4 family members withdrew from being patients. This is not a 3rd person account, even though the wording appears to be
