Subject: ATTENTION BRIAN IVIE HOSPITAL ADMINISTRATOR

Mr. Ivie, this email comes to you with much discust and shock at the treatment I recieved on Tuesday, Jan. 11, 2011 at approximately 10:30 am. Bare with me as I run you through the horrifying unproffessional treatment I recieved in the hour I was at your "facility". On Jan. 3rd I came to your emergency room via ambulance as I could not breath, and had been quite ill in the nine days that led up to my seeking medical attention IMMEDIATELY. Please I stress that word, as the following events will be more than defined in this email. I was treated on the third by Dr. Wood, and given the following diagnosis: COPD along with inflamation in both lungs. I was given an ekg, a chest exray, and the necessary meds along with breathing treatment to get my breathing back on track. All the staff, and Dr. Wood treated me with the utmost care and I feel was due to the fact when entering your "establishment" I was not in any shape to answer the questions that I was being drilled by "Dameon" sorry his badge did not have his last name that I was aware of but I was busy trying to get air in my lungs. I told him to please wait for my husband that he was the primary insured by his Union of which he has belonged for 30 years. So, the hospital was aware that I had insurance, but my husband was the one who had all the info. "Dameon" insisted on my answering his questions, as of which I had no answers. "He" returned within minutes, and informed me I had no Insurance, as I told him yes I do, my husband has the info you need but he stood there looking down at me shaking his head with a look of shear evil on his face. When he told the person to whom he reports "Yea or Nay" regarding insurance, well they came in unpluged me took my iv out, let me lay there for about 10 min before they came in and booted me out. Now correct me if I am wrong, however, I was under the impression that Hospital regulations due to insurance purposes, let me rephrase that YOUR INSURANCE ON THE HOSPITAL that a staff member had to wheel you out the door in a wheel chair? Please correct me if I am wrong. Well the lifted me off the table and said come back if the symptoms persist. Hmmmmm, I am barefooted, I have no wheel chair, no staff, no help other than my husband who is sitting there in shock! I could not walk I was extremely dizzy and out of breath, when my husband asked please for a wheel chair of which they retrieved and off he went pushing me to the back of the hospital and out the door. Well, if you check your records, you will find that you will be getting paid forthe 3rd of January's short stay, because I was insured as was told to "Him" after they causiously evicted me like I had the plaque. I was given three prescriptions at that time and orders to follow up with my primary Dr. On Tuesday, Jan. 11, I was at my Dr.'s followup when I again was having life threatening symptoms, at which time my Dr. decided that I needed immediate breathing treatment and due to my spitting up blood and chest pains, to call an ambulance so that I would be under care and get the oxygen I needed while in route back to your "facility". When I arrived, I was wheeled from the ambulance to the emergency room where a "nurse" stood at the front desk and ordered them to drop me in the "waiting room". Did you read this right? "waiting room with others who are sick, and have no life threatening symptons such as myself. I don't think that my Dr. would have called for an ambulance when my husband was there with me and offered to take me immediately, my Dr. expressed concerned for my well being and wanted oxygen and other treatment needed until I could get to the emergency room and get the "proper" medical help I needed. So, off I go, can't breath, chest on fire, ribs stabbing my swollen lungs, and dropped like a bad habit in a room filled with sick people, a set of doors that open every minute or so and bring in a gust of cold air, well let me put it this way it was approximately 42 degrees that day. I decided that I would wait for my husband and go to a facility to get the the immeditate help that my Dr. prescribed to help stabilize my condition. When the triag "nurse" yelled SCHMIDT, I was sitting approximately 7 ft. from her front door and facing right at her, I told her that I did not want to get treated here, and before I could finish my sentence, she BELLOWED OUT IN FRONT OF THE SECURITY GUARD, PATIENTS, RECEPTIONISTS (there were two of them at the reception desk), SHOULD I CALL THE POLICE AND HAVE HER ESCORTED OUT? Horrified, and scared with little breath, I got up from the wheel chair and walked out of the doors to the parking lot sat on a cold cement bench and waited for my husband. Now remember it is 42 or so degrees, my lungs are infected, swollen, and not giving me enough air so that I was extremely dizzy. However, after sitting there for about 15 minutes, one of the receptionist, and I am sorry to say I don't remember her name, came out and coaxed me back in with two warm blankets until my husband arrived. When I asked her if that woman was a nurse or a "monster" she assured me she cared what happen to me, she in my book is a true healthcare hero. Also the security guard was very concerned for me. Now my point is this...When the hospital thought I had insurance, they were treating me as if I owned the emergency room I was in. After "Dameon" as much called my husband and myself a liar that we did not have insurance, I was hurried out of there with out as much as a pair of socks on my feet, and no wheel chair, and no staff member to take me to my car. Hmmmmm, sad isnt it? When my Dr. called for an ambulance due to the nature of my illness being so severe, I am wondering because I was "BLACK BALLED" in your system as a "NON INSURED" "BACK OF THE BUS" kind of hmmm well cant say human they treated me more like a low life no good piece of well we will leave it at that is this why even though I entered your establishment via ambulance with a life threatening condition as my Dr. called from her office, so I assume she is correct actually I KNOW SHE WAS, I COULDNT BREATH AND WAS SPITTING UP BLOOD, mind you when I was pushed out the first time the DR. told me if the symptons persisted to come back, and I DID. WHY IN GOD'S NAME WOULD YOU TAKE ME TO A WAITING ROOM WITH NO BLANKET, COLD AIR BLASTING IN EVERY MINUTE OR SO, AND HAVE ME SIT IN A COLD HARD WHEELCHAIR UNTIL THEY AND WHEN I SAY THEY I AM SPEAKING OF A COLD, BIG MOUTH, UNCARING, BELLOWING, HEARTLESS, 'NURSE' AND I USE THAT WORD LOOSELY WHEN THE WHOLE PURPOSE OF GOING THERE WAS TO GET TREATMENT IMMEDIATELY SO I COULD BREATH, AND PERHAPS FIND OUT WHY I WAS SPITTING UP BLOOD, COULD HAVE BEEN NOTHING BUT MY DR. WAS AFRAID IT COULD BE A BLOOD CLOT, AFTER ALL, MY LUNGS WERE VERY VERY INFLAMMED AND SWOLLEN, SO WHY WOULD WHEN I DECLINED THE "BELLOWING NURSES" TO TAKE MY VITALS, I MEAN COME ON WOULD YOU AT THIS POINT? AND GOT OUT I DON'T WANT TO BE TREATED HERE...WOULD THAT WOMAN YELL AT THE TOP OF HER LUNGS, AND IF YOU NEED WITNESSES FROM THE ER, I HAVE TWO OF THEM AND ALSO THE SECURITY GUARD ON DUTY AND THE RECEPTIONIST WHO SO WITH CARE HELPED ME BACK IN TO KEEP WARM, "SHOULD I CALL THE POLICE AND HAVE HER ESCORTED OUT?" I MEAN WAS SHE ASKING ME, OR THE SECURITY GUARD STANDING BY ME OR WAS SHE AUDITIONING FOR A PART IN A DRAMA MOVIE? THIS ANIMAL SHOULD NOT BE ALLOWED AROUND OTHERS ESPECIALLY THOSE WHO ARE ILL, AND SEEKING MEDICAL ATTENTION, I FIRMLY BELIEVE THAT NOT ONLY CAN MEDICINE HEAL, BUT KINDNESS PLAYS A BIG ROLL IN HEALING ALSO. I AM A IN HOME CARE GIVER AND I AM APPAULED AT THE TREATMENT GIVEN TO ME BY YOUR ESTABLISHMENT BECAUSE I FEEL THAT THERE WAS NO OTHER REASON THAN YOUR STAFF THOUGHT I WAS NOT INSURED, WHEN INDEED I AM. YOU WILL BE PAID FOR YOUR SERVICES AND I USE THAT WORD LIGHTLY FOR JAN 4, 2011, HOWEVER, YOU WILL NOT GET ONE DIME FOR TUESDAYS JAN. 11, 'S TORTURE HUMILIATION AND BLUNDERS FROM YOUR ER AND THAT "MONSTER". I HAVE SENT SOME INFO TO KCRA CHANNEL THREE AS WELL AS A COPY OF THIS LETTER. I ALSO TRIED TO CALL MICHELLE AND DISCUSS THIS ON THE SAME DAY, BUT HEY YOU PROBABLY THINK I DON'T HAVE INSURANCE SO THAT IS WHY I NEVER RECIEVED A COURTESTY CALL BACK. THIS TENDS TO MAKE ONE BELIEVE THAT YOU ARE STAFFED WITH HEARTLESS, COLD CALCULATING, MONEY HUNGRY, DOLLAR DRIVEN, NO INSURANCE NO SEE MONSTERS. I BELIEVE THIS SHOULD BE ADDRESSED. I HAVE TRIED TO REACH SEVERAL PEOPLE TO DISCUSS THIS, TO NO AVAIL, SO, I AM ENLISTING THE HELP OF SOME ORGANIZATIONS THAT CAN GET TO THE BOTTOM OF THIS. I COULD HAVE DIED! DO YOU UNDERSTAND THIS? MY DR. SENT ME VIA AMBULANCE DUE TO MY DETERIORATING STATE IN HER OFFICE, GET IT I COULD HAVE DIED, YOU THOUGHT I HAD NO INSURANCE SO YOU KICKED ME INTO AN ENVIORNMENT IN YOUR WAITING ROOM THAT COULD HAVE KILLED ME OR WORSE YET HAD I HAD A CONTAGIOUS VIRUS INFECTED OTHERS THAT WERE NO SO SICK BUT STILL HAD HEALTH ISSUES WHICH ARE IMPORTANT ALSO. WHAT IS THAT? I AM SENDING A COPY OF THIS EMAIL TO KCRA TV AND ASK THAT THEY PERHAPS FIND SOME ANSWERS FOR ME OF WHICH I SURELY DESERVE I COULD HAVE DIED! WHERE WOULD MY DAUGHTER BE, MY THREE BEAUTIFUL GRANDCHILDREN? MY GREAT GRANDBABY YET TO BE BORN IN FEBRUARY? WELL, I WANT ANSWERS AND I TRIED TO GET THEM FROM YOU, YOU WOULDNT GIVE ME THE TIME OF DAY, I WAS OUT OF YOUR "ESTABLISHMENT" AND THAT WAS GOOD ENOUGH FOR YOU. WELL I AM HERE TO LET YOU KNOW MR. IVIE, I AM GOING TO TAKE THIS AS FAR AS NEEDED TO GET ANSWERS AND PERHAPS SAVE ANOTHERS LIFE IN THE FUTURE, YOU NEED TO REEVALUATE YOUR WEB SITE, LET THEM KNOW IF THEY DON'T HAVE INSURANCE DO NOT COME THROUGH MERCY SAN JUANS DOORS! I AM LIVING "NOT BY ANY HELP FROM YOU" PROOF THIS IS YOUR "MOTTO". I HOPE YOU CAN CHANGE YOUR IMAGE, EVERYONE DESERVES TO BE TREATED BY A PHYSICIAN OR HEALTH CARE PERSON REGARDLESS IF THEY HAVE INSURANCE OR NOT, BUT HEY YOU COULD HAVE KILLED ME A DIFFERENT WAY, BUT THE SLOW DEATH OF THE COLD AIR WASNT BAD.

MICHAELENE SCHMIDT

my mother yesterday got out of the hospital from their and upon arriving in the er via ambulance the nurses where rude and personally their lack of compassion is sickening. She was in severe pain when all they wanted to give her was motrin and when they called her back the nurses wouldn't help her to the wheelchair and left bruises on both her arms. She has severe ra and to top it off the triage doctor was talking ### so I cannot wait to put in a complaint

Mercy San Juan Emergency Department is HORRIBLE! My mother died there 6 years ago because of their neglect. I just left the er and waited 6 hours and had to leave because I had to use the bathroom and no one would help me! My ankle is either broken or severely sprained and I can't walk. They don't have wheelchairs, they have chairs that won't move unless being pushed and I was alone. There were people that had been waiting for over 8 hours that hadn't even seen triage yet! There was no room to sit, They were putting sick elderly people OUTSIDE IN THE MIDDLE OF WINTER! WHO DOES THAT? Little kids that were crying and hurt that had been there for hours. NO HEAT FREEZING COLD ER ROOM. No one ever thought of offering especially the elderly patients a blanket maybe? Where is the care? Where is the compassion? This is the third time I've had to leave Mercy San Juan ER and go to another hospital because of the terrible non existent care in that er. If you are outside bleeding to death on the front steps of Mercy San Juan Hospital, GO TO ANOTHER ER!

my child was recently hospitalized at mercy San Juan and it was the worst experience of our lives. the Lady's complaints above don't surprise me. they would have been unbelievable to me two weeks ago but not any more. my husband and i are both in the medical field and we know how patients and their families should be treated. the staff and the doctors that treated my child were less than satisfactory. the staff wouldn't answer my questions about my child's health. they would blow us off when we tried to get there attention. the doctor would rarely come in to update us on the baby's progress (my baby was three months at the tI'me)They did numerous test and didn't tell us exactly what was being tested for. i later had to order my child's records to figure out exactly what was done. my husband believes we were discrI'minated against because we are both minorities. I'm not sure what happened exactly but they dropped the ball big tI'me. i don't think i would ever go there again willingly. we are currently filling a complaint to the hospital quality control dept. apparently they have the power to make change.

Why would your information need to be updated at the hospital if you aren't a frequent flyer and exactly how would you go about keeping it updated until you need their services? I am sure the lady was screaming because she was frustrated at what she felt was poor treatment. Usually when you complain you are frustrated and the way to show that frustration in an email is to place it in all caps. Exclamations and all caps help to express our emotions in type when you can't hear our voice or see our face. Just a few thoughts for the above comment.

The ER isn't going to refuse service to you, I'm sure that if they believed it was something IMMEDIATELY life threatening, they wouldn't have booted you out. Also, it's important to keep your information on file at the hospital up to date at all times, just so problems like this don't happen in the future.
I have a hard time believing complaints made by folks when they're written in all caps.. it screams irrationality, which means.. you were probably emotionally impaired when you wrote this and is more than likely is exaggerated.
