Ms Shamsunnissa Ishak CEO of Melaka International School is permitting teachers to teach without permit.
I am a victim because of her good words I went to Malaysia but worst thing happened. The salary is very low but they declare high salary to the immigration as well as to the ministry of education. She didn't process my visa and ask me to go back to Philippines. She said that my visa will be sent soon as possible but she cheated me.I taught for almost four months but illega. Are malaysian people really worst like CEO SHAMSUNNISA ISHAK?

Both parties (Ms Lorena and Mrs Ishak) are both terrible! Ms Lorena was not really a good teacher. But Mrs Ishak is worse! She doesn't know how to manage a school! MIS is a terrible school, students should not be studying in. They just study there because there is no much other choice as schools in Melaka are all in Bahasa Malaysia. And the other International school in town is small.
The CEO seriously have to improve the school. But unfortunately, she just makes every single day worse. She hired 2 pointless principals who does nothing but nag!

Thank you Ms Sabrina Tan for your comments. During Ms Lorena's term at MIS, we received a variety of other comments from parents of Year 1, 2 and 3 and many of the secondary students . These feedback led us to the decision to not include Ms Lorena as a permanent teaching staff at MIS. We are constantly working towards improving the quality of our teachers. Sometimes this means letting a teacher go when it is not a good fit.
Ms Lorena has made some serious allegations against me and the Melaka International School. MIS does all the due dilligence for ALL their expat teachers - including Ms Lorena's. There was no 'cheating' of the pay as she claims; it was explained to her of the amount that is due to her, for which she [and all other expat staff of MIS - past and present] agree to before joining MIS.
We are in communication with the Ministry of Education and they are aware of this situation. We have been above-board in dealing with new applicants as well as other staff at MIS, several of whom have been with us for over 15 years.
In response to Ms Annabe, the salary package is explained to all candidates during the interview. It is all transparent. MIS pays for the levi and air fare for all the expat teachers which is not deducted in any way. Expat staff are provided lodging or paid a stipend amount for lodging if they do not want the lodging provided for by MIS i.e. if s/he is on dependent pass, which is converted by MIS to the Immigration for a work pass.
There are always 2-sides to a story. MIS has had our fair share of dealing with newly recruited expat staff who failed to honour their agreement after all expenses have been paid for from our side. At the last minute we were informed they didn't take the flight, with all sorts of reasons. We have had to absorb these costs and we soldier on.
Ms Annabe, I thank you for your interest shown in our school. I invite you to contact me at shamsunnisa@mis.edu.my for a discussion. All our staff on the interview panel know the package that we offer and this should have been explained to you. Do contact me personally so that I can clarify any doubts you may have.

Ms Lorena,

I didn't get a chance to thank you personally before you left MIS. You were Maddox's YR 1 Science teacher in 2010/11 and you are his favourite one too. You have taught him well even though you were going through tough time with MIS. I didn't know about the situation as you were so good with the kids, until now. Am furious how you are mistreated. I was also working abroad when I was young and got cheated in a way like yours too. I understand & how disappointing & frustrated the situation is in a foreign land. I wish well & hope everything works out good when you are back home. Thank you for your guidance & support.

Ms Sabrina Tan

I'm currently applying as secondary teacher to that school. I would no longer mention my major so that they can't trace me just in case they read this. I had a panel interview with them but I'm sure that Ms. Ishak was not one of them. Based from the flow of the discussion, they want me IN. I was surprised when they said that they can only offer rm1600-2000 to me. I believe I have good credentials based from my experiences.

I have known from different forums that a graduate teacher serving in gov. school receives rm2200 every month on average. Considering that I'm expat teacher although a dependant pass holder, that salary will not suffice. They have been asking me if I'm willing to process my papers to get a work permit but on my own expense. There'll be no assistance for processing visa. I don't have a car so definitely the salary will just be consumed for transportation. I have to take a taxi back and forth. For sure, they would not offer housing allowance, health care, annual trip back to hometown, repatriation and any subsidy for starters as it may cost them a lot.

I've been reading a lot of forums regarding how International schools give compensation packages and most of them are really good. I was really surprised about how they treat teachers who want to render service to their school by just giving a very low salary alone. Now that i have read Ms. Ma Lorena complaint, I would no longer interested to pursue my application. Thank you for the info!
