I purchased a Toy Aussie from Ms. Leeds on January 14th 2013. At the time I went to her home to look at dog I should have had suspicions then I was being sold something less than. Her home was beyond filthy and stank of animals. Obviously she is a hoarder, not the worst hoarder, but a hoarder nonetheless. I arrived in the dark to the home and there were no outdoor lights and I couldn't even tell where the front door was. I had to call her and she came out the side of the house with a flashlight. I did not leave with my certified papers on the dog that day either and still do not have them after several requests. Nonetheless, on 2/23/13 the then 14 week puppy was rushed to the ER Animal Hospital for what would later show as a malfunction of the shunt to the liver causing the puppy to have seizures. As the next couple days would go by Ms. Leeds would not return my calls and after a strong email is only when she returned the call. Ms Leeds had no concern for the puppy at all. Actually had the audacity to say I owed her $20! This puppies life was cut short and she only wants $20 and had no concern for its poor life. Ms. Leeds offerred to provide me yet another one of her puppies, of which I obviously passed. She refused to assist with any vet bills ($8000+ total) or to refund me my cost of the puppy. In retro speck Madelyn Leeds is a puppy mill and nothing more. She has no real concern for puppies or ensuring the puppies have a good life. So long as she can make a buck she seems to be content.

Michael Muhammad, if you have known Mrs Leeds for 30 plus years then you have been to her junk yard of a property before? You can just see from the Google map that her place is a junk yard so with her being accused as a hoarder, I am not in the least bit surprised. I mean by God just look at all the blue tarps she has/had hanging off the roof of her house and not to mention the vase amount of missing roof tiles! And if you are stalling 35 plus horses on just 2.5 acres of land then guess what?...Your a hoarder! And for her being a breeder of very high quality Arabian horses well yeah right don't make me laugh on that one! Her black stallion that she had many moons ago had major flaws and she claims was a non fading black is very untrue, she had kept him in a stall all summer long so the sun did not fade him. Mrs Leeds is not at all what she likes people to think of her. She is a washed up old lady trying to make money at any cost. As for the puppy that was sold to this lady well, it's buyer beware and a pre purchase vet check should have been done prior to purchase. But Mrs Leeds did offer another puppy to her and she declined and that is all Mrs Leeds is obligated to do although I would have not taken another puppy from her either. This is where doing your due diligence comes in handy when making purchases on anything. I personally would never purchase an animal from any breeder without a pre vet exam done first. Sorry for the loss of the puppies life and hopefully people can learn from this.

I have known Mrs Leeds for 30+ years. First of all she does not have a side door to her house. Second youncame at night so there is a justification for her coming out with a flashlight. As to the animal smells she breeds very high quality Arabian horses so with 35 or more horses, you will have odors and lots of them. Also her neighbors have horses. I have bought many horses and three adult German Shepards from her. I have sold her several AKC puppies to her. Also she allowed me to use her German Shepard males to service my dog. If you bought a dog that had an inner defect, how would you expect the breeder to be responsible for a defect? Why did you not have the newly purchased puppy examined by a Vet?

Sorry that happened to you. I couldn't imagine what an awful experience that must have been. When buying a Toy, Miniature or Standard Australian Shepherd puppy from a breeder make sure they do Health Clarences on their dogs- OFA, PRCD, MDR1, CERF. Make sure they are registered in one or more of the following clubs- ASDR, MASCA, NSDR, NAMASCUSA, AKC, UKC, ASCA, etc. Buy from a breeder who keeps their dogs inside and not in kennels. If the house is disgusting as described above, turn around and leave. Look for a puppy who has parents that have shown or are being shown in conformation, agility or some other kind of sport. Buy from a breeder who ONLY breeds to keep a puppy back to show or use in their own program. Not to make a profit or add to the overpopulation of dogs. Buy from a breeder that has a contract with a guarantee to protect you and themselves. Buy from a breeder that cares and loves their dogs like family. You might pay a little more to have all of this but it's a lot cheaper than a broken heart and a huge vet bill.
