Life Alert System review: I would like my subscription cancelled immediately and for the company to learn to be transparent about the contract.

Nearly 2 years ago my father had a brain tumor removed in emergency surgery. His recovery was rough, and we dealt with his inability to be independent for several months. I am his only child and live 10 hours away. I had purchased the life alert system for him while he was recovering and when I did so I was told we would be able to cancel the system when he no longer needed it even if that was sooner than the 3 year contract was up. He has been living independently and has thrived for a year now so I called to cancel the system and was denied the ability. I am now expected to continue with the payments for another year, though the system is not needed at all. I asked if a note from his doctor explaining this would warrant the cancellation and they said no. Basically unless my dad dies, ends up in living assistance or has 24 hour care, we are not able to cancel. They do not allow an exemption from the system if the patient improves... And that is not what I was told when I purchased it. This is going to cost me nearly $1000 over the next year when I have already held onto it a year longer than we actually needed to. I'm disgusted that there is no option to get out if the patient improves and no longer needs it... Only if they become incapacitated or die.
