I purchased a Havanese puppy from Kim in 2013. He was born 6/6/2013. Recently he was diagnosed with alopecia, a ganetic auto amine disease. I contacted Kim and received no response. I have no idea if JJ's parents are still breeding or if their offspring are breeding.
This disease requires meds and he has to be bathed twice a week. Hopefully his hair will come back, but there are no guarantees. Fortunately this doesn't affect him physically or his disposition.
We got our dog from Kim Dahlin in 2011. During his lifespan, our dog had: cataracts (surgery for one), patella surgery, a heart murmur, ongoing allergies/skin issues, and we put him down in October of 2023 due to lymphoma (after several rounds of chemo). We would do anything for him, and did. Maybe it's the breed, or in this case, the breeder. Considering everything I've read, I would not recommend getting a dog through the Dahlins. If you want to read about the case of her having 57 (!) dogs seized, 10 of which were taken in for bark-softening surgery (!) you can read it here: https://casetext.com/case/dahlin-v-frieborn-1#N196656.
I purchased a dog from Kim Dahlins. He was twice the size of a normal Havenese - 40 lbs. I contacted Kim who had no comment. He has several issues from allergies, alopecia, luxating patella to diabetes. Have received genetic testing kit and plan to use it. My understanding is she was closed down by DEA and over 100 dogs removed, but somehow she is back at it. Dr. Kim Frankenstein.
Kathleen, did you ever get results from the DNA test?
I purchased my Havanese from KIM DAHLIN. Shortly after he was diagnosed with pancreatitis. He was then diagnosed with diabetes which goes hand in hand with pancreatitis. KIM DAHLIN WAS ARRESTED IN PLACER COUNTY and ALL OF HER DOGS WERE TAKEN from her. She is a SAD EXCUSE FOR A BREEDER. TODAY I HAD TO PUT MY PUPPY TO SLEEP BRCAUSE IF HER HEARTLESS DOINGS. SHE SHOULD BE JAILED!
I purchased my dog from her in 2009. He had no health problems and just passed away at the age of 14 years old. It’s possible she wasn’t a puppy mill in 2009 or was just the beginning. I guess I lucked out. I’ll be looking for a new puppy in the near future and want to avoid encountering any irresponsible breeders. You stated she’s back in business. Can you give me the name she’s doing business under, I don’t want a puppy mill dog. This sadness me as I have a friend that purchased a puppy from Kim in 2016 and now has pancreatitis.
Yvonne, so sad about this horrible breeder. We’ve used a wonderful breeder for the past 20 years for all of our Havanese. We’ve gotten three from Mandy at cornerstone kennels in Chico. You can find on Facebook https://www.facebook.com/CornerstoneCotons/ and they have a webpage. http://www.cornerstonekennels.com/contactus/
I also purchased my female Havanese from Kim in 2015 and Cookie's Birthday is 5/16/15. We did genetic testing and she is not a pure Havanese plus she was recently diagnosed with Dry Eye which requires expensive medication 3 times a day.
I also purchased a puppy from the Dahlin's 5 years ago. He is definitely not purebred Havanese and he has several medical issues that require him to be on a special prescription food for life. He also has high anxiety with any kind of change. He is our puppy and we love him but its sad that he has so many medical issues.
Unlucky doggy - I have one of these as well. Could you give me a call? 916.765.2938
We purchased a Havanese puppy from the Dahlin’s. Genetic testing revealed our dog is only half Havanese - not purebred as claimed. Our puppy also needed major surgery to correct congenital defects in both knees. Buyer beware.
Call me please. 916.765.2938
