On November 3, 2022, Goodman Plumbing sent an employee to propose a solution to a recurrent drain problem. The employee gave me a proposal for $650 and asked for a 50% deposit, which I paid. That night I realized that the proposed solution would not work. I contacted the company and spoke with another employee who confirmed my analysis that their proposal could not solve the problem. Goodman sent two other people to look at the situation and this time proposed a solution that would cost more than $4,000. In the course of looking at the situation, they broke apart a strap hanger for the main drain pipe - which was obviously irrelevant to the work to be done. They also hammered at bricks, which also could not be part of a solution. I told the workmen that I wanted to think about it and asked about my deposit. I was told that it would be handled in the office.

I got a proposal from another plumbing company for more or less the same work at significantly less money. I called Goodman to see about getting my deposit back and was told that they were talking about it just then. I called back two days later and the woman who answered the phone told me that they would not return the deposit because of the time they had spent looking at the situation.

Since by their own admission their proposal was faulty, I don't see why I should not get at least some of my deposit back. This is especially the case since I will have to pay someone else to replace the strap hanger.

It is also relevant that I have been using Goodman for a couple of years and have never complained or failed to pay immediately.

Desired outcome: I believe that, as a continuing customer and in light of the circumstances, I should get my deposit back.
