Food Basics - Self check out and attendant

In Bracebridge, ON on February 23 2022 at approx 8 pm, we went to cash-out our groceries, utilizing the self-checkouts since the lineup for regular cashiers was quite lengthy. The cash we chose had little or no room for bagging, it was very awkward and didn't allow for easy cash-out. While we juggled our items, we were being stared down by a Food Basics Associate who claimed his name was Russ. It too was uneasy being stared and looked down upon at as we attempted to figure out how to juggle all the items and retain them in the small bagging area. The attendant finally did step away finally.

As our order was coming to a close, and space was maxed out, I mentioned that if our items start dropping I would return them to the store since all items had to remain on the scale for the check out to proceed. Low and behold our Ice cream bars tumbled to the ground. With a simple shake, it was apparent that the cones had indeed broken, I asked the lurking attendant RUSS, to void and return the item. Disgruntled he did so, as I handed him the item he dropped it, then proceeded to drop kick it several times across the self check out area, where a mother and young child were also checking out, who were shocked at his actions and attitude. The angry attendant said,"now they are broken." There was no apology to anyone, only increasing fustraition by RUSS the FoodBasics attendant.

His unprofessional angry aggressive demeanor continued repeatedly as we finalized our grocery order check out. There was no choice but to comment on how unprofessional his actions were. We were ready to leave the whole order behind once he came over and stated blankly, "You don't know what you are doing." Perhaps this is how Food basics train their employees to provide customer service or is it that attitude and aggression are key requirements for a self-check-out attendant in the Bracebridge area. In the rest of the world, children are respected and not exposed to violence/ anger in a place of business. Professionalism and care are number one when working in public. Customers are offered other products when they pick off the shelf are damaged or picked up mistakenly cheerfully and respectfully.

This was a horrible display of disregard for customers all in front of children and other customers in the store.

This attendant was aware he was on camera "8 to be exact", that there were other customers in the self-checkout area. We were polite when addressing a return of product and deletion of the items.

Not one person spoke up, but instead, all employees and customers were silent. in their silence, it was a way of accepting this inappropriate display of a mental breakdown by a Food Basics employee.

This old disgruntled man named RUSS was so angry and rude that he almost caused a fight in that store with my male accompaniment had I not stepped in and started laughing it off and making light of the situation.

Your prices are going up, your services are declining and there are many other options to shop at that have excellent service, quality fresh meats, crisp veggie. There is no grey rotting meat, no soggy veggies in their isle like at this Bracebridge location. Their shelves are full and the staff goes the extra mile.

YOU DID NOT EARN OUR BUSINESS... YOU LOST IT.

Desired outcome: have this person placed out of customer service, He should be suspended from work and sent to anger management classes along with further customer service training.

Food Basics - Cashier at customer service desk.

The cashier was very abrupt, tossing our groceries down the conveyer belt, had a totally angry look on her face, while dealing with the elder customer, and with a person who came up to her and asked for change, she told her to wait a min, this was at the customer service desk, the person that asked for change apologized to cashier and to us, as she felt she had held up, cashier did not respond.. She did thank us when giving back change, I said been a long day, she did not answer.. I don't know if she was having a bad day, but its no way to act.. Her ID no is 158.. We will not be going to whatever till she is on anymore. I would have said something to her, but I wasn't feeling well, and just wanted to leave. She has been normally personable.
