I am a disabled tenant at SkyHouse Denver, managed by Equity Residential. I submitted medical documentation requesting a reasonable accommodation for caregiver access due to chronic conditions including L4/L5 disc degeneration, cervical disc disease, scoliosis, and arthritis. Management delayed and denied the accommodation, imposed unlawful conditions, and ultimately banned my caregiver without due process.
They dispatched law enforcement to serve my caregiver over a non-threatening note that was placed on another resident’s door. At no point did Ana, James, or Alyssa ask for my statement or attempt to understand why my caregiver was on the property. Without gathering the full picture, they banned him and issued a violation notice that included his photo — raising serious privacy and defamation concerns.
This occurred while my accommodation request was still under review. I also reported harassment and a break-in, but management failed to provide surveillance footage or any meaningful updates. These actions violate the Fair Housing Act, ADA, and Colorado Fair Housing Act.
I am requesting the following actions from Equity Residential:
Retraction of the violation notice and caregiver ban, which were issued without due process or full context during an active accommodation review.
Full compliance with disability accommodation laws, including the Fair Housing Act, ADA, and Colorado Fair Housing Act.
Assurance of non-retaliation and safe living conditions, as I have experienced threats, privacy violations, and unresolved safety concerns.
Penalty-free, concession-free lease release if the hostile environment and failure to accommodate cannot be remedied. This release must not be reported negatively to my credit or rental history.
The upload feature is not working, but I have extensive documentation of all correspondence between myself and SkyHouse Denver management. This includes emails, medical records, violation notices, and detailed timelines showing repeated attempts to resolve the issue. I am seeking legal support and accountability for the discriminatory actions, retaliation, and failure to uphold my rights as a disabled tenant.
