This website, Hire My Mom, is supposed to be a great resource for work from home mothers. However, it has some serious issues that make it difficult to use. For starters, the site is full of glitches that can make it hard to apply for jobs. And if you do manage to apply for a job, there's no guarantee that you'll actually get it. The service is also terrible - they never answer the office phones, so you're stuck emailing them and waiting days for a response.

But the worst part is what happens when you try to cancel your membership. Even if you've only been a member for a few days, they'll take your money and run. And if you do manage to get in touch with them, they'll often change your membership without your permission, which can cost you even more money.

Another issue with Hire My Mom is that many of the jobs they advertise require travel or being in the office at their location. This can be a problem if you're looking for a true work from home job. And even if you do take one of these jobs, you'll be considered a 1099 contract employee, which means you'll be taxed both as self-employed and on your income taxes. I gotta say, I was pretty excited to give Hire My Mom a try. I mean, as a former stay-at-home mom myself, I loved the idea of being able to help out another mom who was looking for work. So, I decided to post a job listing for my small mental health clinical practice. I needed someone who could work part-time and from home, so I thought this might be the perfect place to find someone.

But, let me tell you, I was pretty disappointed with the whole experience. First of all, the company charges a pretty hefty fee just to post a job ad. I mean, come on, there are plenty of other sites out there that let you post for free. And, to make matters worse, after I spent all that time crafting my ad, I got an email saying they wouldn't post it unless I created a LinkedIn page and linked to them through my profile. What the heck?

Now, I'm a psychologist, so I don't have a LinkedIn page. I don't want my patients to be able to find contact info for other patients. But, even if I did have a page, I don't think I would have linked to them. It just seemed like a really coercive tactic to me. I mean, I just wanted to help out a stay-at-home mom and give them some experience to put on their resume. But, it seems like all this company really cares about is making a profit.

In the end, I had to ask them to take down my listing. It's a shame, really. I had such high hopes for this site. But, I guess it just wasn't meant to be.

Oh, and one more thing - hiring VAs is a skill that you can learn, just like anything else. If someone gets a bad VA from HMM (or anywhere else, for that matter), it's at least 50% the employer's fault for not being skilled enough at hiring. I used to be terrible at it and lost $10K on another VA service, but now I'm a pro and VAs are the lifeblood of my business.

I had a really bad experience with Hire My Mom. I talked to a lady once and spent a whole weekend getting everything ready for her. I made a video and wrote out instructions in an email. She wanted me to pay her before she started working, which I thought was weird, but I did it anyway. After that, I never heard from her again. I tried calling to complain, but no one helped me. I really hate this group and I don't think anyone should use them. I paid $65 an hour and she didn't do any work at all. She just took my money and laughed about it.

The site has numerous glitches, the service is TERRIBLE and the once you cancel, even if it's just mere days into your membership - they take your money and run. They never answer the office phones, so technical problems can only be submitted by their email and it takes them DAYS to respond. They also do things like changing your membership without permission, which of course, costs you money. The site also advertises that it is a boutique for those who want to work from home - but many of the positions require travel and for you to be in the office at their location and still consider you a 1099 contract employee (which means you are taxed both as self-employed and then on income taxes - thus reducing your pay). You are better off spending your time, your money and your hope for working from home on other sites and freelance work. HireMyMom.com is nothing but a bait and switch to get your money!
