Garfield School District review: middle school staff member nate descafani (basketball coach)

Good day,

I would like to bring to your attention audio footage of 3 Garfield NJ school district coaches discussing student/athletes in a derogatory fashion. This audio went live on the HUDDLE website. I have met with the school administration named below on this email thread. They have assured me that they would follow up with me regarding a Mr. Descafani (Garfield Middle school basketball coach) on what actions have been taken to reprimand this staff member for his horrific words that were caught on audio tape. I have not received a response from Garfield NJ school district and they have not responded to my emails requesting an update. I would like for this incident to be shared with the masses as we cannot have schools employing staff members who do not have the best interest of the students at hand.
Please advise if someone can assist.

I have recently learned about a conversation that took place amongst one of Garfield High School's assistant football coaches and some basketball coaches recently. As a former player and coach I am well aware of how conversations take place regarding players. They sometimes get graphic, that's the nature of being a coach. However, the conversation took a turn when me and my son were addressed in not such a good light and Jason Jr. was addressed by adjectives other than his birth name. I was hesitant in sending this to you as I do not want this to affect Jason in ANY way but this surely needs to be addressed. This was quite disturbing to hear coaches who I trust my child with (and who work for me and my son as I am a tax paying citizen of N.J.) and I'm sure that you trust because they are staff members; conversing in this particular tone about things that they've obviously overheard and did not have the complete facts about. This is slander and is unprofessional and extremely concerning to me and should be to the district as well.

Jason is working extremely hard on this off season to be the best that he can be athletically. I hope that you can and will address this as soon as possible. Preferably we can set up a meeting with all parties and clear the air and get some facts ironed out; and move forward. I anticipate you addressing this in a timely manner as I am poised to involve other parties but will wait for your response. Please advise me when a meeting can be set up to discuss this conversation that took place amongst these coaches. At that time, I will provide the audio to you of the entire conversation. I am in possession of it.

Jack Lobeau and Mr. Storms have apologized. Nate Discafani has stated in a meeting with Garfield High School that he stands by his comments. The district has not addressed this issue as of yet.
