Dream Coon Cattery Animals they’re breeding/abusing

This breeder is under investigation after horrific cruelty and neglect was discovered. 129 cats have been seized, as well as 6 poor dogs.

According to NBC12, CHESTERFIELD, Va. (WWBT) - On Monday, the Humane Society of the United States assisted the Virginia Attorney General’s Office and Chesterfield Animal Services in removing 110 cats and kittens from a home along Bensley Road following reports of a “large-scale cruelty situation” at the commercial breeding operation.

It ended up being 129 cats, not 110 from Elena’s 1100 sq ft facility. She was giving expired Russian meds, she failed to provide basic veterinary care, the cats have deformations from massive inbreeding. The Humane Society and Richmond SPCA has taken in many of these cats and it is truly horrific. One kitten died after Elena used a toilet paper roll to shove in a kitten’s chest cavity when it was born with a hole in the chest. Elena is still to this day leaving positive reviews for herself in order to continue her horrific abusive breeding scam and is attacking people online.

Desired outcome: This breeder needs to be not only shut down, but prosecuted. Anyone who adopted from her needs to get involved telling of their own horror stories.

Dream Coon Cattery Maine coon kitten

We purchased a kitten from here in August of 2022 for $2500. We have had him for a little over two months now. Even though he is a wonderful kitten and we love him very much, he has cost us thousands more in vet bills. He came to us with fleas and an upper respiratory infection and now we just found out that he has ringworm as well. I also have not received his papers and the owners of this cattery will not answer my emails about that. I'm not even sure they are legitimate breeders. I wish I would have searched for negative reviews before purchasing a kitten from them. Buyer beware.

Dream Coon Cattery Darina II

I recently purchased a kitten from Elena, Darina. She arrived with a deep cough and severely underweight and dehydrated. I contacted Elena right away and she indicated the cough was likely from meowing as the kitten was shipped on the plane.

Darina, the kitten was taken to the vet on the first available appointment following the holiday weekend. The kitten refused to eat or drink and had a case of diarrhea as well as the continued cough. I kept Elena updated on her status and she stated be sure it's not pneumonia.

I took the kitten to my vet where the vet noted anorexia, dehydration and an abdomen full of air and she was rushed to the emergency vet. At the emergency vet, the kitten again was diagnosed with anorexia, dehydration and after x-rays, pneumonia. The kitten has aspirated pneumonia, which would have been impossible during travel as she was not shipped with food or water. The kitten was treated for two nights at the emergency vet and over $2, 000 in medical bills. I kept Elena informed throughout the entirety of the process and sent her copies of all of the documents from the veterinarian.

She claims the kitten to have been vet checked prior to shipping, however the forms I have form the vet don't indicate which kitten was seen and another indicates the cat to be a brown tabby, which she is not. Elena has taken no accountability for her actions and as a "responsible breeder" still insists that an 11 week old main coon kitten is a healthy weight at 2.68 lbs.

The kitten was given fluids and food manually until she responded to the medication for her pneumonia and did not eat on her own until treatment began. She was on fluids for three days due to the severity of her dehydration.

I contacted Elena, as the kitten did come with a contract to discuss the next steps. I asked her to pay half of the vet bills to which she has declined, stating that she is not responsible as her vet "cleared" the kitten. I have filed a claim with Paypal and will against her veterinarian as well for allowing the transport of unwell kittens.

I’m very happy to have found this site and the BBB reviews. I had two Maine Coon cats as a Tong girl and young woman, they’re fantastic pets, loving, gentle, funny. I will look elsewhere due to the reviews I’ve read. As to the woman who wrote her stressful experience with Darina. Thank goodness she took such good care of the kitten she purchased from you (Dream Coon) because of the evidence she can provide, Elena & Andrew Mikirticheva should be the ones sued (that by other commenter).

To write someone is a disgrace to their nation because they made others aware of the awful treatment an innocent little kitten received is over the top, at best. Calling out poor treatment, misleading information, and costing a customer thousands of dollars does not make them a disgrace. It makes them an amazing human being to rectify what Dream Coon did, and probably continues to do, too their kittens. Shame on you, Dream Coon.

Here’s the link to the BBB reviews: https://www.bbb.org/us/va/richmond/profile/cat-breeders/dreamcoon-maine-coon-cattery-0603-63411160/customer-reviews

Obviously, this is the carrier’s fault (Delta Cargo), the cat was exposed to cold temperature, it's obvious.
You blamed ALL on Elena, because it was easier for you.
It should be a shame, but you have no conscience.

You are a disgrace to the nation.

I saw all the documents, a lawsuit will be filed against you when all this mess with the COVD-19 ends.

Dream Coon Cattery irresponsible breeding

I purchased two (2) Maine Coon kittens from this catery 3 years ago; the kittens were sisters. Upon getting them home, I noticed worms in their stools. I notified the breeder, and she dismissed my claim, stating that the kittens had been wormed and vaccinated, and that worms are undetectable by the naked eye. I took them to my Vet (Dr DJ at Stafford Animal Hospital in Stafford, VA), and they were treated for the worms.

As they matured, I noticed various deformities- their upper and lower teeth were not fully formed, the gray Coon had a lazy eye, and both had a very pronounced spinal curve. But, by this time they were loved and part of my family, and I had no intention of returning them.

Two weeks ago, my grey Coon became paralyzed from a clot that formed in her heart, which was enlarged and had thickened walls. I had to put her to sleep. Being concerned for her sister's heart, I just had an echocardiogram conducted, and she too has heart wall thickening, and and enlarged aorta.

My Vet, Dr. DJ, suggested that I report the breeder since, in her opinion, the issues my two cats had/have were the result of reckless breeding.

I have not contacted the breeder with this information about the cardiac conditions, since she was dismissive when I broached the issue of the worms.

Thank you for your time and attention in this matter. My heart just aches at the thought that other families may be going through this too, and with each cat costing $1500.00, the breeder should be stopped.

Addendum-I contacted the breeder, and sent her the results from the cardiac ultrasound, which supported my Vet's opinion of what my cat died from, and that my other Coon has same cardiac condition and will be on medication for the remainder of her life.

Elena has sent me a partial refund, to date.

What I do not appreciate is getting an email from Elena's #1 supporter from this forum. This issue is between me and Elena, and does not require additional outside dialogue.

As far as I know, all sold pets should be checked with vet after the sale. You, as a decent buyer, did it and everything was fine? why be angry at the breeder. By the way, I changed 3 vets before I found the best for my cats.

I did immediately take them to my vet, two days after bringing them home because they had worms and needed treatment. I contacted the breeder as a courtesy, and she then argued with me, stating that worms couldn't visually be seen. While this is true for some forms, all cat owner are familiar with the little white ones that are typically from fleas.

As a side note, the 2nd cat, the one that was put one the heart meditation as a result of her sister's early death, just passed away on Friday from a sudden cardiac event. With the treatment, we managed to give her two more years of life, but she still died WAY TOO YOUNG, as did her sibling, as a result of terrible breeding practices.

Do not understand where the breeder? It's mostly looks like fault of your vet.
Could breeder have predicted something as clairvoyant?! Or did not communicated with you? I'm not belive.
Thus it unacceptable to pour out your anger at all. Be on the good side.

Dream Coon Cattery cat breeder

Elena's cats are beautiful, with gorgeous markings and unusual colors. But the emotional pain that came along with seeing our beautiful young kitty die from a preventable virus that he picked up from that cattery was not worth it.

We purchased an expensive Maine Coon kitten in August 2016. He died last week (Nov. 2017) from feline leukemia, a contagious virus that he could only have contracted at the Dream Coons cattery. My other two Maine Coons have tested negative.

When I contacted Elena, the breeder, she claimed to not have any idea about the virus and she said she would "read about it". Which means there is zero effort being made on the part of her cattery to identify, prevent and eliminate the virus. They are ignorant to it. She said they've never had a case of FeLV and that she'd have to talk with her vet.

I am now concerned that our sweet little dead infected kitten may have infected my other two cats, and we face the possibility that we may lose all three cats to the virus as a result as they sit through the unknown incubation period.

My fault for not being a better educated consumer. If we ever get another kitten again, I'm going to insist that it be from a breeder who regularly tests all their cats for this virus.

I am the original poster. The kitten that died also developed severe stomatitis and had to have a full tooth extraction at around 6 months old as a result. Contrary to Elena's claim, stomatitis has nothing to do with the care of the cat. This is not an uncommon Maine Coon ailment, but what makes me angry is that instead of simply admitting that some of her cats have FeLV and stomatitis, she refuses to take ownership and puts the blame on everyone except herself. Isn't it interesting that breeders want you to sign something stating that you won't test them for FeLV?

If you are looking to purchase a Maine Coon, you should absolutely have the cat tested, or get the breeder to document via a reputable vet that the cat has recently been tested and has come back clean. At the end of the day, your best bet is to fully research your breeder and talk to the cat breeding community about their reputation before you hand over money. Don't assume that an expensive or beautiful cat means you're getting quality breeding.

Losing a pet is devastating, especially when you have kids. This was an expensive and painful experience for us, and an awful end for our cat.

AND A WARNING to people who dare post negative reviews of her cattery, be forwarned that "David Blackmann" will contact you outside of the board and attempt to pressure you into removing the posts.

Leave me alone, Elena. You've caused enough damage to my family.

I just purchased a Main Coon kitten from Elena in August 2022. She sent pictures of the kitten when I asked and also asked if I wanted to come and pick him up in person if I was leary. I could not travel but she arranged a pet courier to deliver my boy to the door - he was alittle sniffly when he arrived but after a quick trip to the vet - he was fine- probably the stress of the long trip according to the vet. He is 8 pounds of bouncy fluffness. Elena answered all of my questions immediately and addressed any concerns I had. I don't know what the rate for a cat was in 2018, but in 2022 there are legit $3-3500, particularly for a male. In most cases, you can't even get a male kitten. I checked out about 30 Maine Coon breeders in the states. There are many scam websites with similar names but this is not one of them. I love my cat over the moon. I would happily buy another cat and I plan to visit them next time I am in the area. Do your research - good and bad reviews are not all legit.

I purchased a kitty from dream coon in Nov 2019. He is magnificent! everyone is absolutely obsessed with him. We named him Sebastian. He did come with a leaky eye. I took him to the vet they checked him over and made sure it was a superficial for his eye not anything more. Elena paid my vet bill. Sebastian is not even a year old and he is a big boy. I did spend a lot of money for him. Wish they sold their babies for a little less. I treated him like I did with my other two cats that I bought from the shelter. I made sure he got an overall vet check up including Feline Leukemia test. He came back healthy and big hit at the VET he is on their facebook and Instagram:)

A friend of mine purchased a male and female kitten from these folks. It's been less than 2 years and they are both dead from Feline herpes. This is blood borne illness and is based in the cattery.

Something needs to be done with these people. I have read so many complaints about the "stock in trade" and I am ashamed of these people for claiming to have healthy kitties.

I was horrified to read about what happened and so glad the Humane Society stepped up and saved those precious babies from more neglectful torture. I also read the court case papers, quite horrific. Enclosing a link for you in case you want to check it out. Absolutely unforgivable and horrible - and then to sell off the ill and unhealthy and then not take responsibility for it too?!? Researchers Close In on New Drug to Treat FIP

Researchers at Kansas State University and the University of California, Davis may be on the verge of a breakthrough in feline infectious peritonitis (FIP) treatment that could potentially extend the lifespan and quality of life for cats suffering from this deadly disease. As a result, they are promoting the commercial development of GC376, an antiviral compound used to treat FIP.

FIP is a progressive and fatal disease caused by a feline coronavirus that can affect both domestic and wild cats. Feline coronaviruses are the cause of viral enteritis, which is typically harmless. But in rare instances, FIP can arise, spread throughout the body and cause death, particularly in cats age 2 and younger.

A licensing agreement coordinated by the Kansas State University Institute for Commercialization with Anivive Lifesciences, a California company whose proprietary software accelerates the discovery and development process of new pet medicines, will have both parties working together to hopefully bring this new drug to market.

The approval process, overseen by the Food and Drug Administration's Center for Veterinary Medicine, requires several steps documenting the efficacy, safety and manufacturing of the compound. While GC376 is still several years from release, if FDA approval is successful, it promises to revolutionize treatment of this fatal disease.

Thank you for contacting and helping to explain a lot.

First of all, I want to say that I protect her, because she cannot do this herself. We are friends and she is very honest and good person and I have 2 of her cats.

where did you get 100% confidence in the rightness of your words?
Elena has done several dozen of such tests, you can call the vet hospital and ask them. It's clear. It's easy to check.

And what she wrote to you had a slightly different meaning.
That's what she told you:
"I've never had such a virus before! Recently, some very scrupulous clients asked me to test the kitten .. Of course, this virus I do not have and can not be, he would kill all my cats ..
I do not know much about this, but I will definitely will read about it .."

And what you wrote here:
"When I contacted Elena, the breeder, she claimed to not have any idea about the virus and she said she would "read about it"

Сompletely different words, right?

In her words, she had a long correspondence with you even offered you the contacts of those people who have brothers and sisters of this cat. They are healthy. One white female cat even kept for breeding and she is healty and alive, tested negative for FelV and had a litter this year, all of them living at new families.
Is that not enough to rebut?

You don't want to be good and you are on your own, negative mood.
You don't think that your kitten could get it infected somewhere, as can happen.

By your grace, now almost every kitten being sold is now being tested, thus people read your post and ready to pay money for test. And all came back negative, I repeat once again that this can be confirmed.

It is not so bad. It turns out your accusations have no basis, that's all.

You take everything as you want, and not as it really is.
You should make peace and find a compromise. It is also hard for her to leave you devastated.
Your vet’s mistake is hurting other people too and something else damaged your family.

Elena can't take the blame for what wasn't really happened.

You gave money for nothing. If the cat is healthy why complain?
Once my cat had diarrhea, and I tell you honestly my children too -- should I blame my cat's breeder and my spouse?

By the way, did you read reviews about vets? Looks like it's so bad there too!
Unfortunately, veterinarians are often on the money side. In any case, they have your money. Use good and reputable vet. I see you're in Henrico, as mine. Use Locke A. Taylor.

Ok, never. You have to decide whether to buy from a breeder or take beautiful purebreed kitten for free in a shelter.
IMHO you have no other choice. I generally think it is not ethical to say bad things to backstab, hiding your name. I think it would be fair to talk to Elena first.
good luck.

Dream Coon Cattery maine coon kitten

I purchased a kitten from Dream Coon and had him shipped since they told me he couldn't be shipped via airline because the Cattery wasn't licensed to do so. I should have suspected something in that they were in such a hurry to get rid of him...

First off I did not receive the correct kitten. Secondly, he arrived with SEVERE diarrhea, which he has had for 3 months now. Thousands in medications, probiotics, vet visits and no cure! No responses from the Cattery!

Please beware! My poor cat is so sick - Do not buy a kitten from this Cattery - I will be filing a complaint with TICA!

Are we talking about dreamcoon in Richmond Virginia? The company run by a Russian family?

Have him checked for feline leukemia. We lost our 16-month-old Dream Coons kitten last week to the virus.

Did your vet test for coronavirus antibodies? Chronic diarrhea is a symptom of a coronavirus carrier. Some cats that are infected with the virus can have acute mild symptoms when first infected and eventually resolves, and some can have chronic diarrhea. I have read where someone solved their kitten's chronic diarrhea by feeding only boiled organic chicken. I believe they fed their kitten this for a couple months; then, started to reintroduce wet and dry food. Ask your vet about this before attempting.
