Hi,

I subscribed for the cupid online dating for the trial pack but I did not like it so unsubscribed the service the same day. Inspite of this they have charged my card on 30 jun 2011. Even after the deactivation of subscription, I was not able to use the service.

Cupid, plc runs the sites Silvercupid.com cupid.com and flirt.com. I am not sure how many others. They are all a fraud. Do not deal with any of them. And if you have delt with one, your profile will appear on all three. You have to call them to remove your profile. There number is [protected]

The reason you were all hit with the £14.90 charge is due to a very unscrupulous tactic. When you are billed it goes forward into another page which offers two further services with the default selected of £14.90. There is no back function just a forward one. If you just go to the top and go back on your browser and refresh the page you will see the functionality is there. Now with this "free month service" they are billing after 4 weeks. I tried to contact them and got the usual "here have 3 months service". Somehow this new month service got billed at their top package (£39.99 per month) despite me never having bought their top level package in the past. My recommendation is to report this matter to trading standards and to the Financial Services Authority

Any site operated by the "business" is, indeed, a fraud. After seeing one of their sites advertised on Facebook, I decided to try it out, especially since it was advertised as FREE. After setting up a profile, it was literally a matter of minutes before emails and chat messages started coming in. This should have been my first red flag but instead, I figured I had finally found a good site. Of course, you can't read any of the messages until you become a paid member I signed up for 3 day trial for 6 and some change. The next thing I know, I am hit with a charge of 14.90 for premium membership, which I did not want. This was my red flag. I emailed the "administrator" who had already mailed me twice to "thank me" for my money. She did not respond, so I did what I should have done from the beginning and started fishing around online. Only to find a staggering number of negative reviews. They bait you in with fake profiles and fake messages from these fake profiles. It becomes obvious how fake it is when none of these "people" respond to your responses and all the emails and chats stop. By this time I was absolutely livid and began emailing admin over and over again. My tone was not friendly as my use of "colorful metaphors" was everywhere. I finally got an answer after I threatened to go to my local media. They first said they would give me a month of free service! I said I didn't want it, that I wanted my account cancelled. They wrote back and offered to transfer service to one of their many other fantastic sites! I said the only thing I wanted was WRITTEN VERIFICATION that my account had been cancelled and my credit card would no longer be charged. Despite the fact they responded to my media threat, and the not that followed within an hour, there was no response at all. I emailed them again, asking if I should take it as their refusal to provide me with written confirmation. Again, no response. Now, I just can't seem to get ahold of them at all, which is the formula from what I can tell. So I've already cancelled my card so they can ignore me all they want now. No more theft from me for them:) Stay away from any site operated by Cupid.

Similar story here. I joined on the 3d trial, paid over paypal. 2 days into it I knew it was rubbish, and went to cancel before being charged for a full month. They run this scheme (read scam) that all you can do is to REQUEST a cancellation which they have to approve, before giving you a so-called cancellation code, before you are then given another set of instructions to follow. However in my case the Cancellation Code never arrived per email as advised. I had to call PayPal and ask them to stop paying these scamsters. No doubt Cupid is balancing a very fine line of fraudulent behavior.

I had an acct in the past, deactivated it, and suddenly a flurry of activity of winks and emails, so they sucked me in for $2.97 for a three-day membership. SOMEHOW, i got charged $14.90 for a service I never asked for, and they billed it TWICE WITHIN TWO DAYS.. Unfortunately it was at a time when there was little money in my acct, so I incurred an overdraft fee of $30, which was what alerted me to their double charge. They will refund the second charge of $14.90 but not the $30 fee. I can't seem to make them understand that I AM OUT $30 because of THEIR ERROR and they should make it right. Perhaps they could change their name to Stupid.com

Cupid strikes again. How dare Facebook advertise these scam merchants as associated businesses. I am cancelling my Facebook membership as it is not safe. Today Cupid charged another $39.99 despite my cancellation earlier via Facebook preferences, the only way I could find to escape these greedy crooks. I know that I cannot get that back and will have to cancel my Visa Debit Card with my bank. I agree with Bazzer289 comments as I too at 67 got flooded with so-called messages, hugs and kisses from 20 and 30 year old's in Australia and UK. They are fraudsters - stay away from these sites. I also got stung for $4, 500AUS from a so called christian lady from Melbourne (I don't think!), who kept up the emails and chats plus phoned me twice over a two week period, but I was ready for her fortunately. All of these sites are manipulated by their operators and invite fraudsters to join in the free-for-all fraud frenzy.

they are teh scammers. Fortunately my Bank Fraud detetion dept called and alarmed me and asked for verification of payment to cupid PLC and informed me that these guys will charge you even if you have cancelled the subscribtion. He suggested to cancel this credit card and he will issue the new one with another no. so that cupid huys can't charge that old card. I said ok.

Happened almost similar with me. Got money deducted from my account without my permission and intimation to me. Will complain this fraud. I have subscribed only for trial package, and they deducted 750 in addition to that.

I have also had the same problem. On checking my bank statements the other day I noticed that over £2, 500 had been taken out of my account since March of last year. As I am currently unemployed I have emailed Cupid and demanded that the money be repaid. The truth is that I did not realise that I was being charged for using their sites

My partner has also been swindled by these people, he signed up for a trial before we got together so about 18 months ago and didn't like it so cancelled his subscription before the trial ended. Not being one to check his statements he's only just realised that they've been taking £29.99 as a card payment every month since, approx £500 + has been taken without his knowledge. Not sure what we can do to claim this back, have stopped the payment via the bank because we can't find a phone number for Cupid PLC and they're not replying to their online email form.

Cupid plc are crooks, plain and simple. I heard the stories of the over charging of credit carids in the oline dating services. I figured sending a postal money order would help to avoid such a problem. I sent cupid plc a money order and got no service. After many emails to them, they claimed they never received payment and had the gall to ask for me to send another payment. After having to put a trace on the money order and getting my money back through the post office, I get notified that they finally cashed the check. I sinced emailed them with a copy of the cashed money order and requesting my money back. They replied by asking for proof that I sent it through the mail ! After 20 emails in this ordeal I repeat my demand for payment, now they just ignore my emails. Cupid plc are at they very least dihonest. They provide no service, put up false profiles, allow nigerian scammers to florish on their site and to boot, they steal your money. This was on click & flirt but they have many sister sites that are no dought the same rip off. BEWARE ! It took just about $60 to find out these people are ###.

I was suspicious of their activities within a few days due to the amount of interest in me by so called 29 years olds, I am 64! I asked for my details to be removed but this was ignored and I received mail the very next day.
Their mails are somewhat intrusive, deceptive, false and untrue to get deceived persons to join their organisation and no doubt to defraud them accordingly.
As one has to find a site to complain on which would be possibly .[protected] of the population how much money have they removed from accounts after getting cancellation requests.

Then there is all the problems surrounding the problem of getting a refund from them. Credit card company involvement!

Then there are those that cannot be bothered or do not notice!
