I purchased this product to replace a 16 year old unit. I upgraded to the 15 SEER unit to save on energy efficiency. Purchase/installation took place in Aug 2009.

When winter rolled around, and the weather got wet and cold, I discover this unit actually freezes over solid, like an ice cube, rendering the outside unit useless. Only recourse is to switch the unit over to emergency heat (expensive electric coils) in the inside unit.

Contacted the installer who said this is normal. Contacted Carrier, who contacted the installer, and advised everything was fine.

Meanwhile, my other old unit runs just fine without this problem. Checked the owners manual which made absolutely no mention of this problem (which everyone considers 'normal'). You'd think if it was so normal that someone would have mentioned it prior to the sale, or that it would be covered in the owners manual.

Next time unit froze over, I checked all my neighbor's units and could not find another with my problem.

And, yes, I'm disappointed that I expended this amount of money for what has turned out to be an inferior product on the heat side.

Carrier has a file under my name so I don't feel the need to add attachments. Randy Evans, 2720 Hollybrook Lane, Morganton, NC [protected], [protected]@bellsouth.net

Thanks for your ear.
