A. (Title) Manteo Casa Cabo: An unparalleled view for an uncomfortable environment. Unfortunately, my experience with Manteo Casa Caba was a great disappointment and I offer an honest appraisal explaining exactly why this is so. The cliff side location and elevation of the Villa is one of the things that makes it so enticing and offer such a breathtaking view. However, for all its beauty this elevation combined with the steady influx of cool sea breezes make for a naturally cool and even cold environment. Anyone familiar with the local climate and the Villa’s elevated ocean front location would know this. The Main Features section on the website listed “temperature control” no fewer than eight times throughout Villa’s interior. You would reasonably expect any “temperature control” system to protect the guests from experiencing extreme temperatures from both ends of the spectrum, whether extreme heat or cold; not so. The “smart house system” with temperature control wasn’t very smart at all. There was no controlling for extremely cold temperatures; there was no heating. The air conditioning units made matters worse by adding more cold air on top of the already chilling ambient temperatures. More importantly, even my bedroom suite completely lacked any heater and was like sleeping in a cold cave. So, regrettably, something as basic as the Villa’s cold interior temperature was never corrected and my guest and I had to resort to using sweaters inside during our stay. ----------------------------------------------- (Title) Obnoxious chemical odors ruined the air quality My friends and I were so excited to finally be able to take a much-needed break and relax at Casa Cabo. When we arrived, we were immediately taken with the location and beautiful surroundings. But it didn’t take long for us to notice that something was off. At first, we thought it might be the chemicals used in cleaning the Villa. But we discovered that it was the automatic scent machines used throughout the house. Ironically, rather than adding a pleasing and fresh ambiance to the air, they created a pungent and unpleasant odor that reminded all of us of mosquito repellant. You know it’s really bad when they can somehow manage to foul up the air quality in a Villa by the beach I requested that the electric scent units be removed during our visit. The staff forgot one in my suite and the unit continued to make the air so unpleasant that I could not sleep for a couple of nights until it was finally discovered and removed. --------------------------------- C.(Title) The Smart Home technology left a lot to be desired: Bring some blankets. 140 words Casa Cabo is very impressive in some ways, but the wrong use of “Smart” technology only made some things far worse. Something as simple as trying to exit the front door of the Villa was needlessly complicated by the improper placement of the automatic sensor. You had to intentionally walk to the far left of the door and wave your hand to trigger the motion detector and then walk back toward the right to leave. This “Smart technology” forced you to make a zig zag movement just to exit the front door. This is just one example of poorly implemented technology in the Villa. More importantly the Villa tended to get very chilly at night and for all the so called “Smart technology” there wasn’t anything to take the chill out of the air. Be sure to pack some blankets for your stay. D. (Title) BYOS: Bring Your Own Staff. A great location and interior design but the service provided by the staff was inconsistent at best and patently unprofessional at other times. Some of the staff awkwardly boasted that they had received very large tips from their previous guest at the Villa as though somehow to secure the same amounts from us. However, the most disturbing and unprofessional aspect of the staff’s conduct was that some were drinking beer and tequila while on the job. So, I recommend play it safe and bring your own staff. There are very few things as bad as paying for inhospitable staff to accompany you on vacation. E. (Title) Excellent location but the neighbors are not. You would think that a place that looks like Manteo Casa Cabo would never remind you of living in a bad apartment complex but think again. The neighbors next door failed to comply with the rules for the neighborhood. On two consecutive nights the residence to the left of the Villa were playing music so incredibly loud we could easily hear every note from inside. Trying to relax outside was intolerable. Why does it seem that people with the worst taste in music always want to play it loud enough for the whole world to hear? We had to call security not once, but two nights in a row to get them to turn down the noise. F (Title) No good roads. Manteo Casa Cabo’s hill side location is wonderful but the road leading to it is more like a nightmare. The road itself is rough and bumpy but that is not the worst part. To get there to Casa Cabo, you have to pass through an area in town that is lined with drug traffickers and prostitutes openly plying their trade. Not exactly a family friendly place to go.
