I purchased 2 kittens from this breeder. One was ill when I bought it but the breeder made excuses for it's lethargic behavior, so I purchased it. It died of FIP, wet form, confirmed by vet, only about 4 months after bringing it into my home. The second kitten, obtained at the same time, had chronic health problems, and cost thousands of dollars to maintain his health until he developed diabetes, cardiomyopathy, and severe stomach inflammation. He had to be euthanized at the young age of 11 years (equals late 40's for a human). Birrmans are extremely loving cats and it is especially heartbreaking to lose one. I lost 2 from the same cattery.
I had to persistently call and write for over a year to finally receive a refund for the purchase price of the kitten who died of FIP. They acted all concerned about the FIP scare but made many excuses about why they were not refunding me according to their purchase contract with health guarantee. I really had to fight for the refund, and received no additional compensation for the medical expenses.
I purchased these kittens in 1994. I have just now found out from a reliable source that they are not considered a responsible breeder, and that they have had an ongoing FIP problem in their cattery for many years, but do not inform potential pet buyers of it. I was also told they also have refused to refund other buyers whose kittens have died. I would not normally spread hearsay, but this information simply corroborates my personal experience with this breeder.
It is heart wrenching to watch a kitten or cat die of this incurable, ravaging disease. I strongly advise you DO NOT purchase a Birman from BOJACAT. Now that I have confirmation from others, beyond my own experience, I just want to warn potential buyers so they do not go through the pain and expense that I did. BOJACAT is doing a disservice to the Birman breed by perpetuating unhealthy cat breed lines for show purposes, and taking advantage of potential pet owners who might trust their prominently advertised name.
Dear Ms. May:
Please accept my condolences in the loss of your beloved cats.
Without a doubt you will be contacted shortly by a person asking if you want to file a complaint against this breeder. Although the person will not give you their name, it will be RoseMarie Zizzo. Please do not be taken in by her, or her fraudulent organization B-PCB.info.
Ms. Zizzo has no authority to mediate complaints between pedigreed cat buyers and sellers. In fact, her privileges to show and register cats with the world's largest registry of pedigreed cats, CFA, were suspended for life due to her harassment of CFA breeders.
Please read the complaint filed against Zizzo on this page, and the complaints she has filed against others. Zizzo is a dangerously disturbed person which you do not wish to become involved with. She will not solve your problems, but will create more issues for you.
Dear Ms. May:
You may not be aware that a link to this complaint has been posted by RoseMarie Zizzo to her libelous website, www.b-pcb.info. As stated above, Zizzo has no authority to solve or mediate complaints between buyers and breeders of pedigreed cats.
You may wish to contact Zizzo through her website and request the link be removed.
Sincerely,
Ima Lumberjack
I have been to this breeder's house and everything was immaculately clean. I had to wash my hands upon entering and handling kittens. I have a 2 yr old Birman from these breeders and she has always been a very sweet, healthy cat. I have a friend who also has 2 Bojacat Birmans, both in excellent health at the ages of 10 and 5 yrs. I would buy cats from Bojacat again. They really love and take care of their children.
I strongly disagree with Ms May's comments. I have known Jane and Bob Cartwright (Bojacat breeders) for over 10 years and have found them to be wonderful, caring people who produce and raise beautiful Birman cats. I have 2 Bojacat birmans, ages 10 and 4-1/2 who are loving, sweet, and healthy. I have visited to Cartwright residence on several occasions -- not an easy feat as I live in Louisiana and the Cartwrights live in Illinois. Each time I have visited, the house has been immaculate and full of healthy, loving Birman purr babies. I consider Jane and Bob good friends and would never hesitate to purchase another Bojacat Birman.
I also disagree with this. I have recently purchased a wonderful kitten from Bojacat Birmans, and she has been very healthy and playful. I hope nobody will have to think twice before buying a cat or kitten from the Bojacat breeders. It is clear that they love and care for all of their cats dearly.
I have two lovely cats that are 2 now. They seem to be in great health. I did address the FIP concern and they assured me none of their cats have ever been effected by this terrible disease. I have no hesitation to go back again to purchase Birmans.
Sandy
The Cartwrights are known as respected breeders throughout the Birman world. I am a fellow breeder of Birmans, and though I have never done business with them, I would not hesitate to do so.
Hello, I have two beautiful and healthy Birman females from Jane and Bob Cartwright. My one is 13 years old and the other is 11 years old. First, the Cartwright's home and cattery is very clean and organized. And, Jane and Bob are very good people and I remember seeing how much they loved every single Birman they had. Jane had that look of love in her eyes when interacting with the kittens and cats. And, she was always there for me when I had a question. She cared. Actually, I wanted to purchase a third one from her recently, but I found out she is no longer breeding due to the passing of Bob. All I can say is that I had a wonderful experience with them and wish I could get a third kitten from them again. Lastly, I have never had any health issues with my cats. They are in excellent condition and they seem to have a lot of life in them. Best regards, Connie
I purchased 4 Birmans from this breeder over a short span of time, the starting in 2000, then 2001, 2002 and 2003 respectively, . Two were for my daughter's family and two for mine. They have all died from blood clots except one. The first was 4, the second 7 and the third 11. The third one will have to be euthanized tomorrow, she is paralyzed, but the offices are closed for the holiday so I get to keep her one more day. Thank goodness she isn't in any pain. What they have in common is the father. I received nothing from this breeder in refunds or vet bills or even condolences. Just do your research before buying from Bojocat.
I am happy for those of you who still have your Birmans and hope they remain healthy
Well, I'm back to say my 4th Birman passed away two weeks ago. This breeder should be held accountable. I'm so happy for those of you who didn't receive defective kittens. (update to Marcie posting above)
Beware of the bojacat breeder! I purchased 2 kittens from this breeder (over the course of 2 years) and both had to be euthanized bcz of enlarged hearts (cardiomyopathy) as well as, ultimately, blood clots being thrown to the rear hindquarters rendering the cats paralyzed and in excruciating pain. Shame on bojacat!
