Hurricane Ian flooded by home with 5 feet of flood surge. I called Best Home Services to provide a quote and replace the AC unit. Service Technician, Joel Niebla came out a looked at the unit. He ran some tests and spoke to my partner about what he saw. He was indicated that the flooded AC unit AND the air handler in the ceiling of the garage unit required replacement because the insurance company would not cover it unless both pieces were replaced. He insisted that the air handler required replacement to be compatible with the new AC. In order to get AC into the house to make livable and make repairs I proceeded. I authorized 1/2 payment of the quote. Both were installed the next day. I later found out from my insurance adjuster that the air handler would NOT be covered, only flooded equipment. I complained to Best Home Services. The technician then wrote up a note saying that the air handler had been damaged by an electrical surge. That was NEVER mentioned by the technician when he was at the house. He seemed to have changed his story and did not provide evidence of the damage to the air handler he now claimed. I did NOT provide authorization for the second half of payment and indicated that to the installers, yet they charged my credit card for the second half of payment without authorization after selling me an air handler and its installation that I did NOT need, and Insurance will NOT pay for. This type of fraudulent business practices takes advantage of victims of disasters and is completely unacceptable and unethical
Desired outcome: I would like the second unauthorized payment of $6,471 returned to me.
