They fail to realize that maybe their budget is too low or that the camera was replaced without question as covered under the 5-year warranty.

I recently upgraded my old 8-year-old surveillance system to Backstreet Surveillance and I must say, I am impressed! The equipment worked right out of the box and the NVR setup was super easy to connect to my phone app. The cameras (60VB) are very durable as they fell from a height of 12 feet onto asphalt and not a single thing was damaged. Lesson learned: always use UV rated CAT6 cable for outdoor use and solid core indoor with 66 block terminations.

As a professional installer for years, I found out via trial and error that ALL CAT 6 pairs must be connected to the NVR and camera for operations to work. (Picture shows two systems in use; ProVue camera connections are the ones on the bottom.) The outdoor camera mount (M5B) is not waterproof, so have some silicone ready to seal the seam.

However, my only complaint is that the company declares the NVR front HD blinking red light is a normal condition. Really? All industry standards say otherwise and it is irritating to see. I had to have some black tape ready to cover it.

They recommended a wireless transmitter to reach the workshed and told me it would come set up, all I had to do was plug it in. I received the equipment, and they were right! They were very nice and helpful, just like the sales guys were. Overall, I am very satisfied with both the equipment's quality and my process from sales to tech support. I bought an Elite system with 8 cameras from Backstreet Surveillance two years ago and set it up myself using the cables they provided, which were 100 feet long. Everything worked just as they said it would. I had a few questions and called their support staff, who were always really helpful. Recently, one of the cameras stopped working (after more than 2 years of use) and the support staff helped me figure out that it was broken. They sent me a new camera within 7 days. The next week, another camera stopped working, but they replaced it quickly too. All of this was covered by the warranty.

Backstreet Surveillance offers lifetime telephone support and I got a 3-year warranty on the equipment, but now they offer a 5-year warranty. The support staff is really great. I've called them a few times when I didn't understand something and they were always patient. If they're busy, they'll get back to you within 24 hours or sooner. That's been my experience, anyway.

In my opinion, you can't go wrong with Backstreet Surveillance. I'm really happy with my system and the support I've received.

I recently bought a four camera/DVR system from Backstreet Surveillance and opted for their installation service. I already had the CAT cables installed when my house was built, so the installation process was smooth. The technician who came to install the cameras was very professional and courteous. I had given him specific instructions on how I wanted the cameras to be installed, but he suggested a different approach that required more work and time on his part. I thought it was an attempt to upsell me, but he assured me that it was the right way to do it and that there would be no additional cost. I trusted his judgment, and he was right.

Now, let me tell you about my experience with their tech support. After the installation, I faced some issues with all the cameras being recognized by the DVR system. I tried calling tech support, but all lines were busy, so I left a message. I didn't receive any call back, so I called again after a couple of days and left another message. The installation manager assured me that he would email the support team and inform them about my issue. However, it has been three weeks, and I haven't received any call back or email reply from tech support.

Currently, I have only one of the four cameras recognized by the DVR, and I am still trying to figure out the issue. I am frustrated with the lack of response from tech support, and I hope they can resolve my issue soon. Overall, I am satisfied with the installation service, but the lack of response from tech support is disappointing.

My experience with Backstreet Surveillance has been a mixed bag. I purchased an Elite 8 camera NVR with five PoE cameras in 2019 and have been using them for a little over a year now. While there are some positives to these cameras, there are also some significant drawbacks that have made my experience less than ideal.

However, there are also some significant cons to these cameras. The biggest issue I've had is with the PoE cameras. They are completely unreliable, with a 100% failure rate for me. All five cameras have stopped working in less than a year and have had to be replaced. This is particularly frustrating given the premium price point of these cameras. Every time a camera fails, you have to go through a lot of work to get it replaced, including uninstalling the camera, packaging it, shipping it back, and waiting several weeks to receive a replacement. Then you have to install it again, which can be time-consuming. It's also worth noting that these cameras do not last long before they fail again, so you'll likely have to go through this process multiple times.

Another issue I've had is with the NVR's processor. It's not powerful enough to playback all five cameras simultaneously, even though the NVR can support up to eight cameras. This can be frustrating if you're trying to review footage from multiple cameras at once.

The NVR also loses its time synchronization, which means you have to adjust its time periodically. I've called support, and they've verified that I have the latest firmware, but they haven't been able to fix this issue. Finally, while the technical support staff is friendly and helpful, they are limited, and you may need to call multiple times to follow up. They can be slow to respond, so don't expect a fast resolution to your issues.

It's worth noting that I installed these cameras under the roof, so they weren't exposed to the elements. The connectors and fittings were enclosed in electrical boxes designed for exterior use, with silicone applied all around the box. Inside the box, the cables were protected with generous amounts of electrical tape. There is absolutely no way that water could get into the fittings/connector areas. Despite this, all of my cameras have failed, with a 100% failure rate. It's very improbable that all connectors and fittings are bad, and when I examine the playback videos, I can see the specific points in time when the cameras lose connectivity. This happens predictably during the day, regardless of whether it's raining or not, and there is no humidity in the area.

Overall, while the image quality of these cameras is good, the reliability issues with the PoE cameras and the NVR's processor make them a less than ideal choice. If you're considering Backstreet Surveillance, be prepared to deal with some frustrating issues and potentially multiple replacements of your cameras.

About a year and a half ago, my father-in-law bought a camera system from Backstreet Surveillance for his new house. When we tried to install the system, we realized that the kit did not come with a detailed installation guide, and we were not aware that we needed a router to connect the cameras to the controller.

The next morning, I contacted technical support to ask for help. The technician I spoke with told me that we needed a router and an internet connection to make the system work. However, we live in Alaska, and our only access to the internet is through a small hotspot that is connected to the cellular network. The hardware did not have a port to connect a router, so we were stuck.

The conversation with the technician became heated, and I asked to speak with a supervisor. However, the technician refused to transfer me to a supervisor and eventually hung up on me.

After doing some research, I contacted the General Manager of Backstreet Surveillance, Mac Jorgensen. Mr. Jorgensen was very understanding and immediately identified a solution to our problem. He confirmed his solution with Rick, the technical support manager, and apologized for the behavior of the previous technician. He then transferred me to Rick, who shipped us a router that was designed to fit our needs, free of charge.

Although the behavior of the original technician was unprofessional, the swift corrective actions of Mr. Jorgensen and Rick more than made up for the bad experience. I appreciate their helpful attitude and commend Backstreet Surveillance's customer support with a 5-star rating!

I ain't gonna lie, I was pretty skeptical about Backstreet Surveillance at first. I mean, the prices seemed pretty steep to me and I wasn't sure if it was worth it. But boy was I wrong! After talking to Mac and his daughter, I realized that the quality of their products is top-notch and totally worth the investment.

Sure, there may be some issues here and there, but what company doesn't have those? And honestly, the customer service at Backstreet Surveillance is so great that any issues I did have were quickly resolved. Plus, the peace of mind that comes with having a reliable surveillance system is priceless.

I had a pretty bad experience with Backstreet Surveillance. I had to return a dvr that was defective, and it was a real hassle. They sent me the wrong replacement dvr at first, and then when they finally sent me the right one, it didn't even have a hard drive in it. What's the point of having a dvr without a hard drive? It was really frustrating, and I had to wait for 3 months before I finally gave up and bought a hard drive from Amazon.

To make matters worse, they charged me $300 for the dvr, even though it was defective and they didn't even send me the right replacement. I'm currently disputing the charge with my credit card company, because I don't think it's fair that I should have to pay for something that doesn't work.

Overall, I wouldn't recommend Backstreet Surveillance. Their customer service was really lacking, and it was a huge hassle to deal with them. If you're looking for a reliable surveillance system, I would suggest looking elsewhere.

I got myself a 4 camera system from Backstreet Surveillance about 11 months ago. Unfortunately, I had to return and receive 4 replacement cameras since then. That's not a good track record, if you ask me. A camera should work correctly for at least a year without anything going wrong with it.

I believe the root of the problem is that the cameras and parts are made in China. The reputation of Chinese-made products is that they use cheap parts and slave labor, especially since cameras are complicated. Backstreet Surveillance needs to check that their cameras work correctly before sending them to customers.

Tech support in the USA is a good thing, but they can't remotely fix defective parts. It's important to have a reliable product that works as intended, especially when it comes to security cameras. I hope Backstreet Surveillance takes this feedback seriously and improves their product quality.
