Sportsman's Warehouse - Get fired if you are grumpy at work

My son was really sick last year, put on life support, and was in the hospital for 57 days. During that time, I did not miss one day of work. I was sad, which came across at work as grumpy so the Manager started having issues with me. I did my job and I did it very well. I was one of the best Receiving Managers in the company and was told so many times. I was also one of the highest paid Receiving Manager's and have been with Sportsman's for about 12 years. I never got less than 100% on any of my walk-thrus. I worked wherever I was needed and did everything that was ever asked of me. I cashiered, did customer service, worked in clothing, shoes, camping, etc. I always made time for an employee when they needed to talk about something. There was a lot of issues with management there and employees knew they could come to me and I would listen. Even our office manager told me that he didn't like our Manager and had issues with him. But because he was finally going to be promoted to a store Manager, he played 'nice' and kissed a lot of butt.

My Manager had it out for me and did everything he could to get me fired. He made it so uncomfortable for me to work there. He even went so far as to tell other employees not to talk to me unless it had to do with receiving or deliveries.

I was fired last week when I had an issue with an employee and asked her to go into the office to discuss it and she refused. I got fired for that because they couldn't think of a way to fire me for being upset or grumpy. The other employee kept her job and will continue to be short in her drawer over and over and upset other employees. They won't fire her because she is a woman and is older. AP has told me in the past that if they are older and a woman that we need to have 'all our ducks in a row' or the employee may file a lawsuit.

I loved my job and most of the 'kids' that worked there. It's too bad that Management doesn't have your back when they know that you have personal issues. They don't try to help you at all. I had to go on anti-depressants and am seeing a therapist because of all of the stress at work.

The moral of the story is... Don't work at the Puyallup, WA store unless you want to kiss the Manager's butt a LOT.
