National Tire & Battery [NTB] - damage to vehicle while getting tires put on

On 11/4/19 I had two tires put on front of my 2003 Chevy Cavalier at NTB #7426/#426 540 Adams Drive, Winchester VA. As I was driving home on Route 522 the hood flew up and stayed up covering the windshield almost making us hit the car next to us.. It banged with such force it cracked the entire windshield and popped out the sunroof. It broke the latch of the hood, damaged the hood, the fender, and the roof of the car. It also knocked the cover off the fuse box and some of the functions, such as turn signals, do not work.

I saw the mechanic open the hood and look around and then close it before doing any tire work. I watched him the entire time he was working on our car from the glass partition in the middle waiting room. Our receipt even says he did a battery check. When our insurance company, Geico, talked with them they claimed to never be under the hood. Not only was your company calling me a liar, they did not show any concern that because the tech did not make sure the hood was closed, I could have lost my life that day.

When this first happened we were simply asking for the $500 deductible and cost of rental car which NTB refused. I spoke with Michael Goderwis Customer Service Supervisor TBC Corporation
4300 Professional Center Drive Palm Beach Gardens, FL 33410 561-383-3051 mgoderwis@tbccorp.com, which was a waste of time because nothing got done about this problem.
Yesterday11/9/19 Geico's Adjuster, Richard Bradley came to the house to see the car damage and said the car was totaled. Because I still owe money on the car I will end up with approx. $900 and no car and no way to get to work. This is not acceptable! All of this because NTB tech opened up my hood! All I wanted was two front tires, there was no need to get under the hood. This store has claim two different stories...to my insurance company they claim they never touch the hood. To Michael Goderwis from your company they claim they weren't able to open the hood. Neither of which is true.

The store manager is claiming the hood was already damaged and this is true. On Nov 17, 2017 a deer came at my car from the side and tried to jump over it. I was not driving at the time. He caused some dents in the hood. I called my insurance company to let them know and they gave me a claim number for that incident. My hood latch was unaffected by this and for two years never once did I have a problem with my hood staying closed! Not once.

I have been to NTB twice since the deer episode once to get new brakes on 7/17/18 and once for the fuel line a few months ago. I did not have the work done for the fuel line because you wanted 3 times the amount that a local garage would charge.

I am appalled by the negligence and the lack of respect and concern shown by your company. I want to be made whole again. I had a working car and was able to get to work before your company ruined my car. Michael did say that it takes time to do anything, well, I don't have time. My husband and I are both on social security and I need my part time job to make ends meet.

I have filed a complaint with Consumer Protection at the West VA Attorney General's office. I have filed a complaint with the Better Business Bureau office and on Monday I will be filing a civil suit. I did have to go to Mountaineer Community Health Center to see my doctor on Thursday 11/8/19 about pain I was having from the force of my upper body jerking forward on impact of the hood slamming into car.

Every day that I did not have my car last week was a day I missed earning money. The stress from this incident is compounding every day because I don't know how much longer I can keep my job.

I will try calling the TBC corporate office on Monday on the hopes that I can reach someone who can talk with me about this matter.
