Rite Aid - Rite Aid’s failure to fill a valid prescription

My doctor sent over a prescription refill on 12/28. On 12/31 I called to see if my prescription was ready. Pharmacy told me that they hadn’t received a refill and I had to call my doctor. They couldn’t give me a few pills to tied me over since the pills come in a pack. Since it was a holiday weekend, my doctor didn’t reopen until Tuesday. My doctor has now called and left 3 voicemails for the pharmacy providing verbal authorization to refill my prescription, since the pharmacy claims they didn’t receive the refill on 12/28. Today, Rite Aid’s phone system allegedly malfunctioned. I tried calling multiple times over the course of the day and left multiple messages. When I was unable to get through to anyone, I went to the pharmacy to speak to the pharmacist in person. The pharmacist said that because of the new phone system, the pharmacy hadn’t received any voicemails from my doctor or me, and the phone wasn’t even ringing in the pharmacy. The pharmacist said there was nothing I could do other than wait for the pharmacy to fix the phone system, and I wouldn’t be able to fill at a different pharmacy location since the prescription was called in. I have been off the medication for now 5 days, and experiencing no serious side effects. There is no reason the pharmacy shouldn’t have received the original prescription refill called in on 12/28 and the fact that I can’t get it medicine because Rite Aid’s phone system isn’t working is unbelievable. Moreover, the level of customer service at this particular location has declined dramatically over the last year. I appreciate that the pharmacy is understaffed, but rude customer service is unacceptable.

Claimed loss: Uncomfortable side effects and extreme inconvenience, violation of right to prescribed medication.

Desired outcome: Fill my prescription and take action to ensure this never happens again.
