Beaumont Health - Hospital stay and neglect leading to additional pain

February 18th of this year my Mom Linda L. Sessions DOB 05/16/1953 was admitted into Beaumont Hospital of Dearborn MI.

She had low blood sugar and fell at home. She had x-rays and a CT exam to find she had fractured her neck in several places. The very top of her head, close to her forehead was also immensely swollen and bleeding down her forehead.

During her stay they worked on finding her a Rehabilitation center to send her to. The nurse Sandra filed an appeal with Blue Cross Blue Shield after being denied for both Rehad and a walker. On the last day a few hours before discharged she was informed it was accepted. She decided not to go after waiting specifically for this result for a week.

My first complaint is that my mom was discharged February 28, around Noon. I was unable to pick her up until 5 pm. She stayed in her room.

After we drove off, Nurse Sandra called and also left a voicemail at 5:55pm to tell us "Someone should've checked with a nurse at the front desk before you left but anyhow her labs were abnormal, stop these two meds and call your physician soon."

When I first arrived, I went straight to the desk. I also seen the nurse who said I should have brought a wheelchair up with me. I went down to go search for one and brought it back. However, she did find another wheelchair and helped us with her belongings to the car.

Second, while admitted her headache and swollen head persisted. The swelling had worsened. She mentioned to staff and Neurologist Dr. Adam Khan her head continued to cause her pain. The Doctor told her to wait a few more days. This week her headaches were so bad she went into her physician's office. The Doctor and his staff were astonished this swelling had not been drained. He was able to drain 90% and she will return next week for a follow up.

And lastly. She just received a letter from her insurance Blue Cross Blue Sheild, stating that her referral to the Rehabilition Center was approved on Feb 26th, two days before she was discharged.

Desired outcome: We will continue to work with her doctors and her recovery before initiating contact with a lawyer.
