Aldi - Service at the District Heights, Maryland Aldi's

Dear Customer Service Representative,

On Monday, March 18, 2024, at approximately 6:39pm ET, I visited the Aldi's for groceries. When I was done and entered the line, it was already at the end of the first, long row of product shelves. There were only two cashier's working at the time.

Fast forward, 15-20 minutes later, and I am at the end of the checkout counter putting my food on the moving counter (not sure what it is called), when I saw two male employees talking. I asked if they were short-staffed, and they both shook their heads "yes." I then asked if there was someone else to open another checkout line suggesting that one of the two should jump in as the lines were now snaked all the way to the back of the store -- the very back of the store.

The cashier whose line I was in, chimed in that one of the two employees did not work as a cashier with sarcasm and a negative look on her face. Her tone was also disrespectful. I responded that the customers make it possible to pay her wages and that I was not even talking to her. One of the young men who was standing there attempted to say something, but she instructed him to ignore me disrespectfully. The two exchanged places when it was my turn to checkout. His attitude was also unfriendly and negative. He did not even tell me what I owed.

As a customer, I find it unacceptable for employees to treat its customers with so much disrespect and disdain. First, there should have been more cashiers working, and anyone working that day should have jumped in to alleviate the long lines. I am certain that this happened because of its urban neighborhood, but I demand to be treated with dignity and respect while shopping at Aldi regardless of the location. The female worker was dark skinned with short hair. Today, it was dyed blonde. I strongly suggest that Aldi trains its employees better on customer service, especially in black/minority neighborhoods.

This experience has left a bad taste in my mouth for this reason. Just because the store is located in an urban neighborhood should not lower the standards of Aldi's brand. You must do better, or I will shop elsewhere.

Desired outcome: Better customer service needs to be instilled in your employees despite the location. I live in a mixed area in northeastern North Carolina, and the lines have never been that long. Ever.
