TSN review: DO NOT get TSN
DO NOT GET TSN
We originally bought a three-month TSN subscription for the World Cup. It automatically renewed recently, but when we went to use it for NHL hockey, the games we wanted to watch were either not listed or appeared as “Live” in the app, only to say “not available in your region” when selected.
I understand regional broadcast blackouts exist. What is frustrating is that TSN is marketed as a place to watch NHL hockey, yet from Edmonton we appear to have access to virtually none of the games we actually want to watch. We cannot even watch the Edmonton Oilers, because TSN does not carry Oilers games. Every other hockey game we selected was “not available in our area.”
We cancelled the subscription straight away and asked for a refund of the most recent automatic renewal, as it is not fit for purpose for us.
Customer service was polite, but repeatedly relied on the fact that the subscription had been activated and the terms say there are no refunds. Their proposed solution was that I sign up for another bundle, then cancel it five minutes later so I could receive a partial refund. I genuinely do not understand that logic: why offer me another subscription when they know I intend to cancel it immediately, and why would I sign up for another TSN product when the one I have is not usable for what we purchased it for?
If there had been even a few games available, we would have accepted the renewal for three months and simply cancelled future billing. But paying for a three-month subscription with no usable NHL access feels like a complete waste of money.
Be very clear about exactly which teams and games are available in your location before subscribing or allowing an automatic renewal.
Recommendation: DO NOT GET IT
