Applied for financial assistance with this hosp. and was granted 100% charity. Then started receiving bills from bill collectors immediately and they are still harassing me. Attachments below show just one bill. There are several more. Does anybody else think this is fraud!?!

After all the hoopla about people mooching off of the government, I would like to say that while raising two children for 10 yrs before they became responsible adults, I worked TWO jobs for almost 10 yrs, without hardly a dime of childsupport, paying soc. sec. tax the whole time. Now I'm sick and I have an UNCURABLE blood disease and doctors have absolutely no idea how to treat it. The reason I turned to this hospital for help in the first place is because a lot of doctors in huntsville ala refused to treat me and some really didn't even know how, therefore, they bankrupted me. I am on my SEVENTH attempt at filing for disability.
My prayer is that, no one else has to go through this because of the arrogance of doctors, ever again. If you have any questions, please feel free to ask. I will not respond to private emails, but will answer any questions publicly.
Blood disease: Hereditary Hemochromatosis

Texas Health Presbyterian Hospital granted me 100% charity but neglected to inform me that their doctors do not participate. Needless to say that I'm harassed on a daily basis from bill collectors. Please see attachment

my apologies...i'm very frustrated...every aspect of my medical condition was discussed with mrs. percy before i agreed to accept the charity. i have paperwork and NONE of it mentions seperate doctors bills. i don't care who you are or what you do for a living...you're never gonna convince me that this is NOT billing fraud. project access is even worse, they made my condition worse...i don't trust any of medical personnel any more. it you wanna change my mind...hold these people accountable for their mistakes and stop making excuses for them...then maybe we can talk.

lifelong goper...so you're in favor of deceptive behavior as long as it doesn't affect you or make you look bad? you don't know the whole story. the subject of getting the dr's paid did come up and EVERYBODY knew that i was bankrupt because of a previous "very" incompetent doctor and AT NO GIVEN TIME, in writing or verbally was it ever stated that this did not include doctors bills...don't get me wrong, i don't work for free either...but rest assured, i never took a job where i had someone else's LIFE in my hands and then completely dismiss it when it wasn't convenient. liz percy ADVISED me to go to the er to "get things going". and then proceeded to tell me that "they couldn't interfere between patients and doctors". not once did i ever indicate to her that i wanted to be "deceptive" during any of this process...but guess what? she did. i have ALWAYS played by the rules and this is unacceptable...and yes, i would swear to this in a court of law. this situation is not that i've gone to walmart and bought something i didn't like and now i'm throwing a fit because i can't get a refund...this is my LIFE that people are playing with. how much is YOUR life worth...what would YOU do in this situation? don't talk to me like i'm an idiot... i'm being punished because of a technicality...how stupid is that? and please, if you're going to blow rose colored smoke up my butt, please put feathers in it so, at least, it will tickle!

the most obviously "thing" in this whole conversation is...NO BODY WILL HELP ME, that's why i posted this in the first place...and the bills have all been sent to collections. the people who work for collections are some of the most heartless people that i have ever encountered in my whole entire life. you just can't reason with unreasonable people. these companies DO NOT care what your situation is, they will attack you in any manner they see fit...and that is what is happening to me...to these people i say...IF YOU HAVE A CASE, SUE ME OR LEAVE ME ALONE. to THR, people need to know all of the deceptive practices and people need to be held accountable. at the end of the day, i am still sick and it's getting worse every day...and OMG...project access looks good on paper, but that is such another conversation for another day...geesh...to the public...please be ware of wolves in sheep's clothing...it is very real!

to those who work for THR and PROJECT ACCESS...if you're thinking of getting revenge on me by punishing me for posting this...I HAVE RECORDED CONVERSATIONS...be careful, I will post if you try to "punish" me any further...it would be better to let me vent...you started this...i didn't!

dear huh? now i'm confused about something. you have been very adamant about making sure that i understand that doctors are contracted by hospitals and actually employed by them...right? if the doctors are not willing to work with difficult cases and only want to work with simple, easy fixes...what motivation does a person have to want to go in debt with people who don't/won't to do their job? i mean, if i hired you to perform a service for me and you said, "yes, this task needs to be finished, but we can't go any further with this because it doesn't meet our requirements." even though you provided a set of rules beforehand, (meaning YOU changed the rules as you went along) how long do you think it would take for me (or anybody for that matter) to file a lawsuit for negligence and/or fraud? the point i'm making is, this is a stacked deck and the hospitals are not playing fair...that's why we're in the mess we're in with obamacare...I WILL NOT APPLY FOR IT!

this is what yet another hospital did to me...no apologies, no treatment for what i orginally went in for ...nothing...they couldn't get me out of there fast enough...pitifull healthcare is definitely universal! in case you're wondering...the incompetent nurse missed my port and injected me with saline and medicine outside of the port. that is not a breast...it's my power port...i now have no idea whether it's even functional or not...i'm afraid to go back.

Been a while since I stopped by, hopefully your issue was resolved. I do, however, stand by my comments that hospitals/doctors, lab, etc., submit separate billing statements.

Dear Karen,

I have seen this type of case before. Texas Health Resources is a non-for-profit healthcare system that accepts cash donations from generous donors. Some of those donations are managed in a monetary fund called Charity Care. When one of its hospitals encounters a patient that has undergone urgent care and met the program requirements, the hospital enrolls the patient into the Charity Care program. What does that mean? It allows Texas Health Resources to draw funds out of the Charity Care account to pay for your care. In reality, the hospital never wrote off your bills and was actually paid for its service through this fund.

The downside is the fund is only set up to pay for the hospital service. It does not pay the physicians who are independent contractors. The physicians will never be able to accept Charity Care because the program is not set up to pay them.

Texas Health Resources is bad at explaining how the program actually works. Most people hear they are accepted and anticipate all medical providers will be paid. While it is a shame this happened, it is clearly not billing fraud.

I haven't previously heard of Project Access, but in looking it up on Google, it seems to be a great cause.

The care indeed begins in the ER. There is no disputing that. However, it has long been known that hospital charges are separate from other providers. When you spoke to Liz, were any documents filled out? if so, were they reviewed by the signatory parties in a complete fashion?

If THR is causing you so much grief, have you considered Medical Center of Plano and the doctors that have admitting rights there?

If you feel that you have been misled, have you filed a complaint under the Texas Deceptive Trade Practices Act as well as with the DSHS?

Consider contacting Dave Lieber with the Morning News or Becky Oliver with FOX4. However, be aware that if they don't feel the case is solid and unless there is a paper trail proving misdeeds, they will likely not be able to assist you.

Karen,

I am not an employee of THR nor are any of my friends or family. I only came upon this thread via a Google search for "Plano Presbyterian Billing" as I needed to discuss my ER bill from December. Hospital Charity has long been known to only cover the care given by hospital staff only. Doctors do not work for the hospitals. It's not an excuse, just a fact.

Finally, these websites are not restricted to just the person making the complaint and staff at the facility that is the target of the complaint.

In closing, as a lifelong GOPer, please stop with the assumptions and comments that those that disagree with you are just as criminal as Hillary Clinton. They give us all a bad name.

Another thing, in the email that you posted that was sent to THR, you use the term "your doctors." Texas law prohibits doctors from being directly employed by hospitals. Therefore, THR has no control over bill from them.

Karen,

Nice assumption there. Perhaps it would be of interest to you that I am a Republican Precinct Chair here in Collin County. Additonally, I have been involved in GOP activities since 1980 (at age 6) when my grandmother and I walked neighborhoods for the Reagan campaign. I've served as a Delegate to the GOP State Convention on three occasions, With that, I can assure you that I am not an Obama supporter.

I visited the ER at Plano Presbyterian in December due to a severe allergic reaction that required Plano EMS to transport me from Care Now to the ER. As such, I have seen numerous bills and am familiar with the format. That is why I asked about the 2012/2013 difference on the documents that you linked.

Finally, I'd like to point out that the online form that THR hospitals make available for Charity Care consideration clearly states that the consideration is only for hospital care. It's common knowledge that when a stay in a hospital occurs, that bills come from a variety of providers including the hospital, lab, doctors, radiology, etc.

I wish you luck with the health concerns.

I'm confused. The letter from THR is dated in 2012 yet the service date on the bill from the ER doctor shows a service date in 2013. If that is correct, the two obviously don't go together.
