I purchased this property in March 2026. At that time I took over a 25 year solar panel lease through Sunrun.
I discovered Sunrun had, through its subcontractor, improperly installed a new roof on this residence on 12/16/21.
It appears Sunrun inspected the roof, discovered damage, and went ahead and installed Solar panels onto the roof in 05/2022.
After I moved in, I discovered water damage from the roof. There was no tar under the singles, no ice & water barrier, etc. This did not come up during inspection as the damage was behind the insulation.
I asked Sunrun to remedy the roof, at
which time they advised me there was a one year warranty on the roof and they were not responsible.
Due to the emergency repairs required on the roof, I paid $32,200 for the removal of the panels, new roof, and future reinstall of the panels.
It was also discovered there was mismatched plywood, warped boards, incorrectly installed panels - I have pictures and my contractor's report.
My real estate attorney has reached out to them and not received a response.
Claimed loss: $32000 for just the panel removal, roof, future reinstall of the panels. Not to mention loss of services.
Desired outcome: I would like Sunrun to refund me for the entire cost of panel removal, new roof, and panel reinstall.
