On Feb 11, 2022 at noon, I sat down with a sales person. I had met with her before and we discussed what I wanted to order and the price. I met with her and said I was ready to order. She built the jeep because you have to order them directly from the factory. There was a $3000 non-refundable deposit which I knew about in advance. The print out of my order was $72,370 which is exactly what I expected. Another man I thought to be a sales manager sat down and said he was giving me both the Costco and military discount and wrote $5000 underneath the total price. I was happy because I thought my final price was $67,370. It turned out to be the opposite. He explained there was a $10,000 upcharge for ordering a 4xe jeep from the factory because they were brand new in 2022. But he took that $5000 discount off so I would only have to pay $5000 over the price printed on the configuration preview.
There was never any mention of an upcharge until that moment. Should I have walked away? No doubt. But I felt like this was the only way to get the vehicle I wanted and believed every dealer was adding the same upcharge.
I can't afford to walk away and lose the $3000 deposit and then the dealer will have the jeep. I have contacted the dealership and told to go ahead and make a complaint.
Desired outcome: I would like my deposit back and find another dealer. I intend to buy that same vehicle somewhere else, but would be happy paying the configuration price without any Military/Costco discount and staying with the dealer.
