Simply Piano Not feeling it sorry

This app is very well made but there are lots of probloms with it... First a human piano teacher would teach you piano for alot of money, but the money will come with multiple songs as many songs as you want. but this app wants you to pay monthly for some songs that should be available without paying. I’m not going to get premium so I can play songs that I should be able to play for free. They teach you the basics which is great! but when you learn the basics what songs are you gonna play if you only have this app..I am a kid I cannot pay monthly for my stuff my parents would have to pay but I’m not gonna have them pay monthly for some songs that should be free.

My second problem
there’s no option for left-handed people which makes no sense. I can’t learn how to play right handed if I was born knowing how to do things with my left hand i’ve also played cello in my orchestra teacher helped me play with my left hand because she knew that’s easier for me to do. This makes my learning not as well because I’m going to have to change the way that I use my hands just for this app where with a real teacher they could teach me how to play with my left or right hand if I wanted to.

Last problem
You only get to play for free for a little bit without having to get premium to do other stuff which really doesn’t make any sense because the people that want to play for free that just wanted to play at home learn from an online teacher or whatever they’re not getting that because they are going to have to pay for it- I just don’t understand you shouldn’t have to pay for everything in this app there should be a variety of stuff for free and like a little pass if you want to get a little more songs...

I will change my rating after these things get fixed, but if they don’t then I’m not changing this rating and if I see something else that is wrong with this app I’m going to make another complaint. So please answer back to this so we can talk about these problems.

Simply Piano One of the best apps I’ve ever used!

I have been practicing playing the piano using this app for over a year now. I have had nothing but positive experiences with it. No complaints. Any questions I’ve had were answered promptly and courteous and helpful. I’ve learned at my own pace. I have come a long way since I first started. When I look back to where I was a year ago or half a year ago, some of the lessons that were on the challenging side to learn have come to feel like they are easy now.

They take it one step at a time and build on each skill as you learn. Some songs and things can be challenging, but man it feels good to work through it until you can play that song all the way through with no mistakes. Or play a song you have never played before perfectly or near perfect because you have mastered reading the music and coordinating that with moving your hands along the keyboard gracefully at that skill level. It’s very rewarding. The hard parts are mildly difficult and you won’t find learning anything worth learning to be easy all the way through. It takes work like anything else. But I’ve had A LOT of fun learning piano through this app. I’m proud of how much I have learned using this method. I did try some other similar apps but this one is the best one in my opinion. You can break the steps down as far as you need to and repeat it as much as you need to until you get it.

I highly recommend this app to anyone at just about any age who wants to learn how to play. It’s well worth the money. You will get out of it as much as you put into it effort wise. Not to mention the benefits learning how to play an instrument has on your physical and mental health. I am thankful to those who worked to put this app together and to make it available to people everywhere at such a great price. I wish you have continued success for a very long time to come. Keep up the good work.

I don’t usually write reviews but I made an exception to let people know that you have a great product here and it’s worth investing in. Thanks

Simply Piano I’m Honestly A Bit Obsessed

I got a keyboard gifted to me recently and since I'm unable to take piano lessons (both for pandemic and financial reasons) this became a perfect option for me. I tried it out on the free trial and fell in love with it almost instantly. I’m now a good way through both the chords (Chord Styling III) and the soloist track (Intermediate I) in about 3 months, although the piano is not my first instrument. The lessons are genuinely engaging and I find myself easily practicing for two hours a day. It’s just so much fun. I find that the lessons are organized well and I enjoy the very guided nature of it. I often found with my last instrument (violin) I often would run into issues not knowing what to practice next in order to make progress. This is not the case here. I also like how they seem to be updating the content pretty regularly. I’m not at the top of either track yet, but I’m sure I will appreciate the new courses once I finally get to them.

The “Play” feature (still in beta) is really great. It’s nice deviating from the scrolling sheet music and looking at actual sheet music. My only wish with it is that there would be an option to print the songs like in the other sheet music tab. I’m not totally sure why those two tabs are separate.

I’ve also found that this app has helped me with sight-reading a lot. I am bad at sight-reading and it’s always been one of my musical weak points, but I’ve been working on trying to just jump into a song and it’s helped out quite a bit with this.

The only gripe I have with this app is that it’s pretty light on theory. I wish it had more options to practice different types of scales, for example. I’m looking to expand my music theory and piano is a great instrument for learning it, but it just doesn’t do a whole lot. I’d recommend getting some external resources for extra music theory— I’ll probably be buying a scale book myself.

Overall, though, this is an amazing app. I’d say nothing beats an in-person teacher, but if you can’t get one for some reason, it’s great for learning the basics.

Simply Piano Bad Accessibility for learning quickly, limited song selection

Ok, this app is great in its majority. It teaches a lot of great things piano players should know such as arpeggios, scales, chords, lead sheet playing and much more. However, there is one thing that gets on my nerves. You have to do the lesson before that in order to unlock the next. I get it that some people want to take it slowly, few lessons a week, but for people like me, who actually want to learn quickly and dedicate a few hours a day on weekends and a good chunk of time on weekdays, it is very frustrating. There isn’t really any reason to restrict further lesson use, especially when you get the hang of it and you want to skip. No you have to learn some random song before you move on. Different courses have this option, so why don’t lessons do? And why don’t the mini sections in those lessons do? I’ve wasted hours, doing random songs and useless lessons that appear after a video that is easy to understand and comprehend. The reason these things shouldn’t be removed is because people learn at a different pace. Simply Piano developers, please add this accessibility that will allow people to learn at their own pace. Everyone shouldn’t have to deal with this. Also the song selection is very limited for a app that cost 75 dollars at the minimum. There should be a section where people can get approved to post their own digital sheet music. Whether it’s some popular song or their own. The main songs should be Simply Piano Approved! or something similar. This part of the app is a cool concept. It is very unlikely that this would happen. Regardless the song selection is limited. I can look up some YouTube tutorial or some sheet music on google instead of paying for this, and watch some videos or get a piano book pdf instead. I won’t, because I have adjusted to the app and the interface is quite nice. It’s a shame that it’s as limited as it is. This app is clearly better but that provides a faster learning rate that simply piano should have. I really hope one of you guys read this and consider adding the lesson accessibility, if not the songs, I am ok with that.

Simply Piano It’s to fast please help me

This app is a good learning app I’m learning and when quarantine is over I can’t wait to show my teacher what I learned. Heck, I’m learning fur Elise! But it’s very fast to catch up with, I know I am doing the fur Elise section right but it’s so fast I make mistakes, so the problem isn’t me, it’s the app. Please make sure that this app can be slower so It can illuminate me. Thank you. (Edit.) I think the note listening is bad in general because I played it correctly I just need some time so when I play under pressure I get it wrong and it’s not my fault that I speeded up or slowed down. I think you app is actually downgrading my skills because most of the time I’m just flopping around on the keys and it sounds bad but the app accepts what I played so I think that the app is making my piano skills bad because my mother makes me play it 15 minutes a day (I’m nine by the way,) and everyday it feels like I’m just flopping around on the keys.) (Ideas:I have an idea, why not make it so then you can set a timer on when to stop however you desire! And maybe, make it so it can have two modes of how it can hear your not playing. The first mode is the note mode the one you made. But why not have a mode where it can listen to your notes all together, and then tell you what you did wrong! And maybe you can make it hear the sounds we make more clearer, then make it so we can change the tempo of the notes that we play so we can do it fast, or slow and show the tempo it’s supposed to be played at for people that want to. Also please add another mode sheet music mode so you can play it on sheet music but at the same time it listens to you. Also can you make it so then there are three modes for the whole entire course, beginner, intermediate, master modes so then when you’re new at piano you can look at beginner, experienced can go to intermediate, and people who played the piano perfectly but have no one to perform to can use the master mode. Also when I am playing, the notes aren’t very well at listening to me playing the notes so if it could hear more better then that would be good.

Simply Piano Many pros, one con

Pros:
1. You learn piano very quickly

If you were learning piano on simply piano you could learn efficiently and in a shorter amount of time than learning yourself.

2. Not as costly as lessons

The pricing on Simply Piano may seem overwhelming, but it actually is very cheap for an app that does so much . I have a friend that plays piano as well, but in private lessons. I asked him how much he paid and he said he payed 100$ per 2 hours( this was before I started simply piano). I then remembered that simply piano was only 120$ for a whole year. I then thought that maybe my dad might actually buy this. I asked him the next day and he said definitely. I was very excited and at the end of the first month a realized how fast I was learning and at such a cheap cost.

3. Songs for you to practice with

I like to always get everything done just because I know it will most likely benefit me better overall. I realized that if I got all the songs to 3 stars it would help me to pass and learn it better. Some of the songs were harder than others and I had to try a couple times to get 3 stars, but eventually I did it. If a song ever got too hard I could go over the trainer to understand the parts of the song better and how they all added up in the long run. I am currently in Intermediate II and am struggling with some songs in the middle to get to 3 stars but I WONT GIVE UP.

Con: too many different notes to deal with at one time

Like I said I was in intermediate II and was struggling a little bit on some songs. I noticed in the songs that there were many parts at one time, and sometimes got a little too much to handle. I could get a better understanding of the notes and rhythms if some of the songs had a few of their parts deleted. No this is not for 3 stars sake(well partly), it is more for my learning sake.

If you, the creators did take the time to read this, please take the pros as a huge compliment and the con as a little advice. I have come so far on my piano journey and have been playing for 6 months now. Thank you for taking your time to read this and I really love this app!

Simply Piano Not the best☹️

I wish it could be free because I want to learn how to play the piano without having to go somewhere I want free access because I do not think it is fair to pay for everything on learning how to play the piano except for 5 notes it is not fair and it made my parents sign me and my sister up for piano lessons in person and I like the app and how it teaches you how to play but it is not fair and I do not have enough space on my iPad to get a new piano app I think it should be free because little kids sometimes want to learn how to play the piano and they have to pay a lot a month to learn how to play. Writing this makes me want to go somewhere to learn instead of chilling in my room(I have a keyboard in my room)Because it costs waaaaay less but the way of teaching the piano is great I watched the videos and saw the path thing i think if I could try it, it would be way more fun. I literally finished all the lessons and just play my one sheet music and do my 5 minute exercises over and over again each day and I memorized all of it sometimes I will even do my lessons again to practice now that I finished it is not fun.i was reading through the reviews and one said that the teacher cost 1200$ well the teacher I have is cheap. I got the app a long time ago I never played it. Now ever since I started playing again I have been really interested in the piano I want to keep learning but I want to be a teacher when I grow up and I am saving my money for a smart board to reach my dream and if I pay for the app I cannot be like mrs.denning my teacher and I might quit piano if I have to pay I play school on the weekends sometimes camping I really want to be a third grade teacher and I need the money to go to college so please will you either get rid of the paying or make it cheaper I also heard of some paying complaints about this app it is not fair to me and other people. They are barely any lessons and I finished them in one day please fix this. And at the end of the lessons it says baby shark and it was so tempting and when I found out I could not do it I got discouraged. Thank you for reading and I hope you understand.

Simply Piano Zero to piano hero

This app is perfect for learning piano. It makes it fun, interesting, and easy. I always wanted to learn an instrument, and decided to go for it once the covid quarantine started. Since then I’ve grown to love it and play almost every day! I went from knowing nothing about piano, to now being able to play the entertainer by Scott Joplin in a matter of 7 months!

The courses use a building block approach teaching you everything from Hand placement to key signatures. Did not know what any of that was when I started but my confidence has been boosted by playing this wonderful instrument and being able to create art for the ears. Each song has a tutorial method where you learn it in segments, playing the melody with your right hand, then the base line, then putting it all together to make the song. Takes practice but it feels less like work to me and more like fun because I am working towards a goal and can see many improvements over time. If you are serious about learning, I would highly recommend getting a piano that has the MIDI capability as then the app can sense the notes you play as you press them with your fingers. Your decide can “hear” the notes you play but sometimes missed the mark which could get frustrating at times, MIDI is much higher fidelity. I started with a cheap keyboard at first but once I decided to commit to this hobby I bought a Casio PX-160 with weighted keys and MIDI connection and the quality of my experience went through the roof. It’s like going from driving your parents old Malibu as a teen to a Mustang.

I especially enjoy the play beta feature which gives you feedback while you are playing with sheet music. My request is that the developers add more robust sheet music in the pre-advanced category for those of us who have finished the courses. I would love to finish Fur Elise, and would enjoy getting the feedback from the play beta mode. Also would love to see a more advanced version of Chopin nocturnes. My daughters (4 and 1) would love a version of “let it go” from frozen. Thank you simply piano team for creating this wonderful platform to bring people into the world of music!

Simply Piano Great for beginners but you need a midi connection

Just finished the “pre-advanced” course, which is the final course, after about 5 weeks and having some minor piano experience as a kid.

I needed a midi connection for the app to correctly register my notes and once I got a $15 midi to ipad cord it was fine.

This is a great app for beginners like me. It’s got great features like slowing down the song so you can get the notes right, and if you don’t, a “practice mode” is enabled, which forces you to play the notes correctly before moving on. I do have a few thoughts on how to improve it but it seems like they’re actively rolling out new features for people who would like to continue beyond the included lessons.

1. There are currently variable speeds of 100%, 80, and 60. It would be nice to include a 40% or a throttle or slider that I could set on say 45%.

2. It would be very nice to select a segment and auto repeat the segment. An auto repeat would be great in general throughout the music that’s included in the lessons.

3. Practice mode for an entire piece.

4. A few times throughout the lessons I would be playing the notes and the background beat is wayyy over the top and becomes distracting. It’s like trying to play marry had a little lamb while a crappy trap dj is blaring lame beats in your ear.

5. Finally, I never got a congrats message after completing the entire course! I got little congrats trophies for every sub-lesson, and upon completing every lesson... Nothing!? A little video like “hey nice work you are a regular Beethoven! Now this...”

There’s another app I’m looking into that has a huge song selection and many of the features I’m describing and that I’m hoping are being rolled out with Play, which is currently in beta. If this app continues to add songs to play beta, including songs that are way more difficult than “pre-advanced,” that would be very cool. Even if takes me months I’d like to try at more than the intro for Fur Elise...

Would be nice if Play included separate hand training as well.

Nice app. Nice features. Great for beginners and time will tell if it will be good for players who don’t need to take the instrument so seriously and can learn difficult pieces with an app. We’ll see!

Simply Piano It’s got major flaws, but it’s also got hope

Why the heck do you have to pay? I would be a lot less upset about this if they didn’t say that it was free. They’re pretty much trying to just reel people in and get more people to download the app and pay. I personally think that is really unfair. Also, please make an option to have the pay be monthly. I’m sorry, but I can’t afford $60 out of the blue.

Practice mode is really annoying. Maybe make a Setting where you can eliminate it completely from your practice.

This one is probably the biggest one, and the one I’m most frustrated with. I started noticing it a few days ago, because whenever I played jingle bells it would only sent one out of three notes. I’ve been trying to get it to work for the past few days and I actually sat down for 20 minutes today just focusing on one chunk of the song, but I didn’t have any luck. I thought it might’ve been just me but no I checked over and over and over again and it wasn’t me it was the app. It won’t pick up notes, it wasn’t that bad before but now I hardly ever picks up notes. And another thing I’ve noticed, is that whenever there’s a few notes in a row and they’re all the same note it will only pick up one. For example, the 5 Fs at the beginning of jingle bells I played perfectly, but the app still claims that it didn’t pick them up and therefore puts me in practice mode, where I can’t move on at all. This is extremely annoying because I genuinely wanted to learn the piano, but I really lost most of my motivational I’m gonna keep trying for a few more days but I’m on the verge of just demanding a refund.

So very beginners, I would recommend us. But once you start having to pay things really start going downhill. So find another app, once you get to that point.

I hope you found this review helpful in your choices for piano apps. Thank you for reading, enjoy tunes, please get back to me a soon as you can because I am very annoyed not only with this app that you claimed was free but not only do you have to pay but is full of lies and genuinely I think it’s a scam, but with you. Trying to reel people in and spamming me with ads and ads until I finally downloaded it and just got sent on a downward spiral. Very disappointing.

Simply Piano Very Happy worth the money

So I never played piano before and wanted to learn and now that I’m an adult and money is tight being on my own the $150 had me suspicious because what if it wasn’t good and didn’t work. Well I can say that I was happily wrong I decided to take a leap of faith and bought the year premium, and I’ve been using it for about a month and I have learned so much more than I was trying to learn with just YouTube and stuff. The price wasn’t nearly as bad as when I looked up piano lessons in my town; the cheapest was $80 a month contract so you pay wether your there or not! This app has been great though at teaching me as a absolute beginner. Even my wife has been impressed and has started learning too! I’d say if your intermediate or advanced you probably won’t need this app it does have a ton of sheet music included but honestly it’s more of a good way to get started I assume by the time I get decently good at the piano I will have to take in person lessons from a more experienced pianist to fully excel. Now though as a beginner this app is great to learn how to read notes/sheet music, and practice sight reading. This app really has had me learning a lot and it keeps adding more new stuff every course that makes it more difficult and I realized it’s helped me progress much faster, cause now the songs from earlier that I never got good at and moved on is much easier now! I whole heartedly recommend this app for anyone wanting to start learning piano as a beginner! It really has helped me and made me able to learn as i can do it at home and don’t have to leave the house for lessons which is great because having a kid makes going out for things like that hard. I recommend the premium for a year option it’s a better deal as you save some extra money and you don’t have to worry about paying again for a while. If your not sure you want to learn piano though and am just wanting to play a little to kill time or have fun then I’d say only get a month at a time option if you think you might get bored of it and don’t know if you’ll really commit to it. P.S. also with premium I found out you get simply guitar included with is cool because I already play guitar! I already know a lot of the stuff on it, but still nice to have and has some neat things in it!

Simply Piano I don’t understand all the good reviews

This is the harshest app review I’ve ever written, in part because if an app costs $120/year and sells itself repeatedly and hard (marketing itself to the detriment of the usability of the app itself) I think it should really be a pretty good one— preferably both intuitve and useful.

My hope for this app was to find real-time assistance with learning to read sheet music, especially in the more complex minor keys.

What actually happened: There was no intuitive way to accomplish what I specifically wanted to. The app forces you to start at the very beginning, “this is middle C”— and if you try to skip lessons to what you think what may be an appropriate point for you, things get very frustrating— it keeps taking you back to the subscription page as if this is what will unlock those higher courses— BUT I have ALREADY technically subscribed (although I’m still in the 7-day trial) so this is a false impression that the app gives. Maybe the problems I’m having are that I’m still in the 7-day free trial but I’m not willing to pay the minimum of $60/ 3 months just to find out if that will fix it; also I wanted to practice piano *thisweek, thank you very much. I think maybe users just have to go through all the steps the app wants you to go through in order, regardless of skill level, but I’m not sure. If so that’s a bit of a letdown (also a bit fascist?) again especially for an app that wants users to shell out so much money up front.

I think I hoped for something that the app just does not do; I am still not sure exactly *whatit does, since I didn’t get very far with it and just got immensely frustrated instead; mostly so far this doesn’t seem to do much for the user and is more a gadget to make money for the app developer. If it does anything else that I’d find useful, there was no intuitive way to find it, again at least when you’re still in the 7-day trial mode (also, there doesn’t even seem to be a way to end the possibly-extra-frustrating ‘trial mode’ faster even if you *wantto start paying for the Premium content.) Since I am on vacation this weekend I’d like to practice *now.So for now I’ll be going back to Quizlet flashcards to practice reading sheet music.

P.S. Could be a good app for pure beginners, I am not sure. However if you’ve gotten past ‘Suzuki books 1-3’, or some equivalent, you’re probably better off saving your money. I just can’t figure out how this app could be useful to anyone else.

Simply Piano Very good with certain important shortcomings

i’ve been using the app for about 2 1/2 months now and overall I’m very pleased with it and would recommend it to anyone who wants to do self study for keyboard.

That being said, there are a few things that truly bug me.

Whenever you finish playing a song, the app jumps very quickly to a screen that presents you with feedback on how accurately you played. That’s dandy, but it does it so fast you don’t have a decent chance to enter the review mode that allows you to see and study your mistakes. If you don’t hit pause within milliseconds of the song ending, you lose the opportunity for review altogether and all the information about what mistakes you made is gone for good. I would like to see the app wait for the user’s OK before going to the score screen and offer the option of review explicitly and at any time before either closing the song or playing it again. Ideally, it would remember the most recent performance indefinitely so you could come back the following day or a week and review what you did the previous time.

When the app goes to the score screen, it plays a celebratory tune completely unrelated to what you just played. And it plays it over and over and over, never stopping, world without end, amen. In other words, just when you would most like to relax and think about what you just played, the app barrages you with utterly irrelevant music that completely distracts you. I would like the option to completely disable the celebratory music.

The scoring is too lax. The highest rating is three stars. it is quite possible to earn a three star rating on the basis of a performance that would be completely unacceptable musically in any conceivable context, including casual performance for friends and family. I would like a four-star or five-star system in which four stars requires 95% note accuracy and 90% or better rhythmic accuracy and five stars requires 100% note accuracy and 95% or better rhythmic accuracy. The present system could easily delude beginners into thinking they are playing far better than they are. Sooner or later the real world will painfully disabuse them of this.

I deeply miss a way to identify a segment of a song and “woodshed” that section, looping through it repeatedly at gradually increasing user-controlled tempo until the user explicitly quits “woodshed” mode.

Last but not least, the developers need to learn respect for the great masters of music of the past. Do not “improve” Bach, Handel and Beethoven with cheesy, ridiculous so-called “arrangements” that arbitrarily add drum tracks, guitar licks and who knows what other garbage to music that has stood the test of time for centuries. The original editions are readily available and are in the public domain—they won’t cost you a dime! Use them! If you can be respectful of Boyz To Men you can be respectful of Bach!

Simply Piano Maximally Manipulative

You can’t actually do anything in it.

You find out after going through a mandatory survey with bunch of screens whose information (along with your account phone number and financial info that app developers also get) they may well be selling — it is a hefty fee for most people, currently ranging from 3 months for $59.99 (minimum), to “yearly” for $119.99 even for my ancient bought-used-in-2020 2016 iPhone SE (Android prices are less expensive for some apps; I don’t know if they are for this one).

All of these recur (So do a lot of other apps, but people who live paycheck-to-paycheck have to literally calculate what they can afford to miss, because there IS a worst case scenario and we have to prepare for it and make any decisions with that in mind).

And this is the most expensive app I have ever seen.

The developer’s breezy “oh you can just cancel it before the free trial ends” shows they have no idea what it’s like to live paycheck to paycheck where one forgotten, misunderstood, or lied-to deadline can mean you miss your rent and have no money for food.

If they really meant it, they could have a free trial without a bait-and-switch insistence demand for your financial details — but of course they do depend on you forgetting, or something going wrong.

If they really thought they had such a high quality product and weren’t counting on people forgetting, they could offer a monthly option — but they don’t.

They hand-wavingly claim “because of [their] great music” and their “development” they “have to” charge their huge fees — without even giving a hint about what you are supposedly getting for it.

There is always an upfront cost for anyone to develop an app, and there is plenty of music that is in the public domain and free to use. They act like that doesn’t exist.

If they had faith in their product and were not counting on stealing money, they could give an actual free trial, give a warning several days before it expires (with a specific date/time/time zone it will expire) and then on the day it does expire, offering the various “subscription” options. But they don’t.

I have never been caught out by a bait and switch or “pre-commitment to subscribe” yet, and I want to do what I can to help make sure no one else does, either.

Finally, don’t bother to even download the app unless you love scratchy, fakey-baby voices (and if you do, there are better and cheaper ways to listen to them).

For a product that tries to be so slick, it has a shockingly bad (for want off a better term) “narrator.”

If I had heard that, I wouldn’t have bothered with even reading the reviews, let alone downloading or opening the app — I had gotten a recommendation from somewhere I had previously trusted (possibly the app developer masquerading as a satisfied customer).

So I wanted to save someone some time and effort and post the warnings I wish I could have read.

Simply Piano Like it a lot, but caution

I tried this app out with my iPad and found it helpful. Could use some tweaks, however I liked it enough to become a member using the "best option" at "$7.49 a month" for the year instead of the 1 month or 2 month options. I could easily do $7.49 a month, however when I made the in-app purchase I got an immediate email that the total charged to my card was $89.99?! I ran to my bank account and sure enough the entire amount was charged and then some. The total charged was $96. And change! I was terrified because I cannot afford that much money at one time and heartbroken because for crisis life reasons I won't disclose here, I 'really' needed this to have something positive to do. I called my bank, cancelled the subscription immediately through the iPad settings and now I have to wait while nearly $100.00 is being held against my bank account. Even if I decided to go ahead and take a $100.00 hit at one time, I now have to wait until the pending charge drops off so I don't get double charged. The app and lessons are cool. Could do a bit more, but if they'd had been 'much' clearer instead of making it seem like the charges would be done on a monthly bases than I would've kept the subscription happily. I've already tested out another music learning program which is set to roll out an app this month. It worked great from their website and my laptop to keyboard and I'm extremely excited for the app! I was asked through an email exchange with that company if I wanted to be a beta tester when they're ready to begin that and I excitedly accepted with much gratitude! Absolutely thrilled! For now I wanted to start since I got the equipment needed to hook up my iPad to my keyboard so I tried this. I also would have kept both. The other company does monthly payments and with what I thought was only $7.49 a month with this app I could have used both and gotten different levels of lessons. Each could have filled in what the other didn't do. Buuuuuut, this company was very deceptive in the subscription plan. I didn't give it one star because it's a great app and I would have given it 4, 4 1/2 stars if the payment option was true to what it's made to seem. Please make this a monthly payment subscription for the year and I'll stay. Again, as of right now and because it's the weekend all I can do is sit and wait for the money being held against my bank account to drop off before making a final decision about whether to keep this this app and purchase the subscription. When you only get a check once a month, $100.00 is a 'lot' of money. $7.49 plus the $10.00 a month for the other app would have been doable. Please be aware of this when deciding about any purchases. I saw in another piano learning app, a review of somebody else who went through the same thing, that's why I went with this company instead, but they did the same thing. Great app and if you can afford $100.00 in one shot than I recommend it, but if you can't afford that than there's not much to do with it. Shame because it's the best app I've found and I've done a 'lot' of searching over weeks when I finally found this and was thrilled before the bomb dropped. If the company changes the payment plan then I'll not only give it five stars, but I'll also recommend it often throughout all my social sites which are full of people in the music industry worldwide famous and local and book publishers whom I'm friends with with a lot of followers who love reading and also love music. For The Love Of Music make the payments easier. Grrrrrrrr

Simply Piano Simple, to the point, but thorough review ⬇️

- Is this app worth it? Yes
- Why? Because I’ve learned very fast what would otherwise have taken me MONTHS and months of slow-paced lessons with a piano instructor... And it would have been very boring.
- What was your level before the app? I knew some chord position and knew how to read do, re, mi. That’s it.
- How long have you been in the app and what’s your level now? I’ve been almost 5 months. I am playing with BOTH hands a whole octave in each hand. I’m able to read sheet music (the basic, and still clumsy) and play the most typical chord progressions of the chords they have taught so far. (I’m taking both: lead sheet, and chord courses)
- How much time do you spend in the app? I wasn’t very constant at the beginning, but the quarantine gave me plenty of time. I spend anything from 30 mins to an hour or to 90 mins depending on how exciting it gets to keep playing, for about 4-6 days a week.
- Do you recommend an instructor? YES! By all means, but if you’re in level 0 or 1 (like me), I suggest you start with the app and once you are in level 3 or 4 (out of 10), then you seek a professor. I think the app is a great investment because it makes learning fun When you need it most: at the very beginning! Which is the most frustrating and boring season of learning. It’ll save you money and time in the long run.
- About reading music on the app... I’ve read some comments that the way you read music in the app is not the way you would read sheet music. I agree with that BUT! They have this “beta” thing (that I’ve found to work only on ipad and NOT in my phone) where you can find basically almost all of the same songs you play with the app method but in plain sheet music. It’s awesome.
The sheet move slowly down and you can decide how fast or slow. It also gives you the option of listening to the song so that you know the rythm of the song (if you need that extra help... is like the extra little wheels on your first bike), and if you need more help, they take you to the “practice mode” where they break down the song slowly for you.
Each song on the “Beta” thing has 2 or 3 levels. Basic, intermediate and advance and you choose your level.
*Now, yes, granted, I’ve noticed that is just a little bit difficult for me to read sheet music on paper vs. the app music but I think it’s only because the app shows the music bigger, and on paper is smaller! I mean, I’m not old and I can see well, but you get accustomed to seeing the music in a bigger size. Other than that, I am still able to read anything I’ve learned on the app, on a piece of paper.
Now, if you REALLY want to read music on paper, you REALLY need to force yourself to learn to count, and learn to read your silences and the value of each note. Be aware of those things when playing in the app, because you can get caught up in just playing the note when you see the cursor falling on the note as if it was a video game, but if you REALLY want to learn to play outside of the app, that’s the extra little effort you have to make.
Going back to the “Beta” option, I think it only shows on ipad, but even if you don’t have an ipad, I was able to see lots of sheet music on my ph too, and they allow you to print it, so that’s what I did.
BOTTOMLINE: if you download the app, and actually spend some time on the app, you can only LEARN!

FIXING THE APP NOT RECOGNIZING WHAT YOU’RE PLAYING:
I realized I would have this trouble only with chords, not so much with individual notes.
I found a way to fix it, or at least something that works for me 99%.
1. Wear earphones. The app works better when it receives pure sound than when it’s playing sound out of your device *ANDtrying to hear what you’re playing at the same time.
2. What I found to do the trick! Usually my phone would sit against the stand, but I found that if I put something to create a space between my phone and the stand (I put a couple of pens vertically behind my device to create void space between my device and the stand), then it receives a clearer sound, so it recognizes what I’m playing 99.9% of times. (I use a keyboard btw).

Simply Piano No Entitlement Here Worth $7.99/mo

I don't write reviews. Or comment. Or 'like' things. And I don't buy apps. But I bought this one because I have always wanted to learn piano. After trying it, I found out that its great and I am learning quickly! So I bought it and recommend it to anyone trying to learn piano on their own!
Now for the real reason I am writing this review... Someone probably spent a lot of money going to school for programing, design, etc. Then they took their new talent, made an exceptional product that teaches you something interesting, invested in obtaining music rights and other related fees and just placed it in the world for YOU TO DECIDE wether you wanted it or not.
For those complaining about the $8 its costs per month, or $96 per year, to teach you something beautiful at your leisure that would easily cost the app's years fee for a week or two of private lessons (which is something you would actually have to pry your soft atrophied body off of your Dorito-crumb-pedestal for)- you are a loser and will never do anything... including learn piano. Its easy for someone who has never invested a semi-real effort in anything to completely miss all the reasons and right someone has for charging for a good product that encourages personal growth after spending years of their unpaid personal time and money. Take offense at this if you will (and chances are you will- sitting there with an awkward and ugly scrunched face as you grow red from embarrassment of yourself- because you are alone, entitled and bitter, where sarcasm, wrongfully complaining of injustice, insults, and impetuous confounded indignation shot blind from the hip is the only pathetic pleasure you get), but please don't get upset. Instead surprise me! After reading this, think about how you act, what you do and say before you just start punching in opinions and unfounded grievances into your keyboard as if your opinion or voice matters. No one cares about those who complain, no one remembers them and no one wants them around, well except your buddies who feed off one another and pat each other on the back until your minds a just one big incestuous circle- errrrp. Sorry, trying to keep this clean. But there is also one more, I suppose, one more type, that is, who cares- Me. People like myself who enjoy crushing the filth, greedy, and all else which makes an already troubled existence even more unnecessarily difficult and unpleasant.
This is genuinely my first review ever and although I feel like Chud for doing that thing people who have no life do, of bickering with weird losers on the internet who are 9 out of 10 times 12-15 years old, I can sleep well knowing a couple things: I have spent 5 minutes of my life saying something meaningful that I can defend logically and justly, while the latter has spent countless hours spewing slap-dash opinions across the world; as well, I will never have to read your rebuke, because I have no reason to ever look at these reviews again- remember? I bought it. And I'm just not the type to sit here refreshing the page waiting for some stranger to reply, waiting to fill my empty life with unnecessary combativeness- I believe its referred to in popular culture as "dropping the mic". And as I doubt those who have written reviews before me that were my reason for writing this will come back to check up on how their piano lessons app review is doing, this is for all those decent people after me who are sick of my entitled smug generation of developmentally arrested viruses who value nothing, because they are the children of at least two other entitled generations- softer than cream cheese. My recommendation? Pay for the app! Its totally worth it! And if you don't think its worth your money, don't buy it because nobody care what you think about the price or your principle on paying for something you can't do- I thought reviews were for discussing the quality and usefulness of a product. Go pay 14$ for 3 extra lives in Angry Birds- that awesome game where you can sling birds into walls for hours! But serious, nothing against that, just making a point. Get this app! 1 week, 1 hour a day and I could play and read simple sheet music! Do it! DO IT!

Love,
Frankenstein Omnipotent.

Simply Piano Customer service is horrible.

The program does not register the notes. This is apparently a problem since there are extensive discussions in the FAQs. To get customer support you must battle through some bots.If you successfully get past the bots you are attached to what seems to be an AI system Every question is answered by a cut and paste from the FAQs. There is no way to get past the “help” to deal with a human. It’s a shame, otherwise great program. Date March 12.

Desired outcome: Fix the program to make it workable.

Simply Piano Sound good without actually being proficient

So this app is advertised as a platform to get beginners into learning piano and sound amazing. DO NOT USE THIS APP IF YOU ACTUALLY WANT TO BE PROFICIENT! I can not stress this enough. This app throws you into playing and barely glosses over music theory which is the most essential part of being able to grow as a musician and grow on your own in the future. This app is aimed at keeping you reliant on it and keeping you paying the subscription fee. I personally lost almost a year of self learning time on this app, and I kept going because I thought I sounded good. But when I went to start learning on my own I was completely lost without this app holding my hand. If anyone reads this review I would highly recommend the book Alfred’s All in One Piano course which is a three book series starting from the basics of music theory and slowly working up to advanced pieces. This series doesn’t make you reliant on it but instead gives you the necessary tools to grow and learn yourself. In conclusion, if all you’re looking for is to be able to play a few popular tunes for some clout around your friends than this is your app. If you’re actually serious about learning the piano there are a plethora of sources out there that I recommend you search out.

Simply Piano Pls read if you’re getting this for your kid

I’ve been struggling to play piano for a while and I was like oh I should use this app! And you know what, it was decent until I needed to pay premium to continue on with my lessons. That’s a big no from me, but my little brother was super interested and he hasn’t played piano once in his life. So I thought well, I’ll get as much out of this as possible. I set up a new profile and everything, and thought he would at least learn a few things, but man it was way to fast-paced for him. The ads are all like “OMG THIS SIX YEAR OLD LEARNED HOW TO PLAY PIANO IN A FEW WEEKS” and my six year old housemate rage quit as soon as he was thrust into the side scrolling play along with the music thing. He’d been getting by by looking at screen, looking at hand, squinting, pressing key, moving on, which was pretty slow. I tried to calm him down but little brothers are the worst. A few days later he tried again, and got further, I guess. Let’s just say that taking a mini child through this app results in much angry piano smashing and “I PRESSED THAT KEY!” and tears. Basically, no, your toddler is not going to learn piano with this app. I’m sure there are more kid-oriented versions somewhere, but don’t believe the ads with a little baby jamming out to baby shark like a Mozart

Simply Piano Does not pay up for the price!

In all honesty I’ve been ecstatic about finally getting this app. Seen it all over YouTube and other platforms as a way to learn piano the fastest and was getting all the glory. EXCEPT, that’s not the case: at the beginning it asks for level of experience but even if you select that you have experience, it puts you through “this is middle C” “play it three times” and then “this is d” and so on. It is frustrating because I know the keyboard well and some music theory and there’s no way of placing you where you should be. I believe developers should make like a placement test to see where someone is so that they don’t have to sit through first day of piano lessons. Now, key recognition is the worst! I cannot play through a simple “c,d,e” triad without getting one note wrong and having to do it over and over and over and over and over again to be placed in practice mode to do it again over and over and over and over again. The price should match to performance and unfortunately it does not. Also having the option to upload your own music sheet so that you can get virtual help from it would be astounding. Invest your money elsewhere. If you don’t believe try it yourself and halfway through think of this review and come back and write the same thing. It’s a “NO” from me.

Simply Piano Stress problems

It might be me, but this app is not good. It stresses me out, and puts me into major uncomfortable positions, even just using that right hand in the first place, plus, I started playing it just today and I did not do anything good. All it did was give me stress. The ads are just hooks that reel you in to getting this app! I like the idea, but at first, it would only let me play none of the songs I really liked, and in order to unlock both hand playing, MEMBERSHIP?!
That’s just one thing wrong. Another thing about this “learning” app is that it stresses people, like me, and that ONE wrong note in practice basically means FAILURE. Another thing is that it made me feel like I did not matter, cause all I wanted to do was LEARN PIANO! I have one in my game room, dusting up! And I think that is pretty bad, so I wanted it to use. There is more things too! When you tap a key on the piano once, it plays it twice, and that makes you sometimes get a note wrong, which leads the app to say that you try again. Practice mode ticked me off a TOOOOOON, and I also thought about the ads that I saw, about in TWO WEEKS some kids learned to play piano, and in my opinion, two weeks of this would cause my household to be flooded with stress. Please believe me, before you are in CONSTANT stress. Thank you!

Simply Piano not what i was expecting

i like the overall idea of this app, but there are major improvements to be followed. firstly, it can’t really recognise notes. also, i’ve played the piano for years and decided to try out this app because why not. in the beginning, they ask you if you would like to start from scratch, if you’ve learnt as a child, or if you are experienced. i put experienced, of course. they were teaching me basic stuff (i mean really basic stuff) like the note c etc. i tried to switch to the songs but they said that i had to finish the basic lessons, so i tried being really patient and finish learning how to read the notes c, d, e, f, and g. i think that this is what the app should teach people who are learning from scratch- but oh well i finished it to get it over with so i could check out the songs. it turns out you have to pay 120 dollars for a year (10 per month) so umm i didn’t think it was worth it and i was quite excited to check out the songs, but i wasn’t expecting to pay. so i went through the basic lessons for no reason. basically, i think that the creators should make it slightly (i mean a lot) more harder for experienced learners and specify that this app needs money in the beginning. so yeah if whoever’s reading this (or bothered to read all of this xD) it’s better to use youtube tutorials, sheet music, or simply get real piano lessons.

Simply Piano I hate it

Find all the notes it is and even make you the song the truth it doesn’t even let you play it just shows you the notes and then you have to pay like $15 a month maybe more maybe more than 15 maybe 25 I do not recommend it it’s super bad maybe just let me play one song but anyways please do not download this ever all these babies must be fake or they’re probably the developers who made it a download it along time ago when I said basically learned it only help me find the notes it just told me how to get this free trial and then I didn’t want to so then I just kept on playing and acting it out but then it charged me after I got all the notes done also that’s why you should go to Piano Academy it doesn’t charge you just click X on the free trial and then you will be playing piano playing so much so I even lived with my left hand I know where all the notes are located I don’t already know how to play sheet music without cutting any money so I think you guys should download Piano Academy and please do not come sing to me you’re sorry no blah blah blah go to Piano Academy you don’t need to pay anything if you want a free trial on there can you please do not take it on Piano Academy and he will be playing with both hands it’s amazing piano academy but instead of simply piano you just have to pay so yeah play Piano Academy thank you for reading this

Simply Piano Needs work, and costs too much

I have played piano for a while and my teacher told me to get this app to help with basic warmups, simple exercises and practice, etc. I chose the “I have experience” option, but it started me at the VERY BEGINNING. My teacher said that I had to play through the beginning section to gain access to the rest of the content, so I did, 25 minutes later I was trying to play the final song, but it kept prompting me to buy premium , I tried going to the next section but same thing

Turns out you can’t finish the first section without buying premium. If you have never played piano, this could be a good app, but anyone with an ounce of experience who doesn’t want to pay over 100 dollars a year, I don’t suggest it. I learned nothing in that 20 minutes and I couldn’t even finish the first section

I’d suggest a few things
1. Make some sort of assessment for people who select the “I have experience “ option and start them at a fitting section,
2. Allow you to do more without premium, the fact that you only learn 5 notes without premium, and don’t even use the left hand is dumb, there are many kids who can’t pay for premium, and adults who don’t want to pay for premium using this app

If you are going to make it so that you HAVE to pay to use the app, just make it a payed app, many people like me won’t have to waste time learning what they already know only to find they can’t learn more without paying

Simply Piano the owner of this game are dream crushers!

I started playing in front of my piano and I learned the three first letters then I could nothing else but play a tiny TINY bit of faded and say something that's is. this is because i had to pay money! it's soooooo expensive it's the worst. you do not even know that much about the game and you to PAY MONEY!This is THE WORST GAME EVER. I just wanted to learn an instrument. Now I am stuck here teaching myself. Please make the buying stuff go away it's been my dream to learn piano. i will NOT pay money for a dream. So i recommended a different game unless you want to pay like $74,000 dollars for 3 months! If it's always doing to be like this then your dream destroyers! I am talking to you the people that made this app I WILL NOT PAY TO PLAY A PIANO I WOULD JUST GET A TEACHER. These people make it so expensive for everyone. Think about the people that can not affored this... you just crushed there dream. and many others to. Do not get this game it is the worst ever. I learned it the hard way... I thought this game was going to help me but all it did was pump me up and then disappointed me . Think about it would you pay $75,000 to learn a piano for three months or just get a teacher... You could even get some music books and teach yourself. unless they fix this so at least you could do lots of stuff without membership. Other wise do NOT get this game i know i have said that a lot but... it's true .

Simply Piano Not free

This app says it’s free when really it’s not because you get the app and you can only do like 3 or 2 lessons and in order to do more lessons you have to pay money and you can’t even learn any songs because you have to pay. You know the ads on YouTube they make you think that it’s free and you can learn everything you need just in like 3/4/6 weeks on the app when you can only learn not even all the basics in a day because YOU HAVE TO PAY MONEY so don’t get it. But if you are looking for a app I would highly recommended OnlinePianist it’s a great app that is free and unlike simply piano you can play songs and get to pick a song every 3 days you go on the app. The only thing is that if you want to play a song right away you can pay to get all the songs with no wait but, by the time you finish a song you will be able to get a new one. Also I love that you can change the tempo and say you don’t want to play back the whole song but only a certain part then you can. Two more things about OnlinePianist is that they keep up with songs like they have frozen songs like into the unknown and more. And last thing is that you can ether play the whole song or break it up. So it will go intro then verse 1 etc also they are good for beginners because if you do the step by step part then it will have 3 parts you will start with the right hand part then left and together. I recommend this app for people on here looking for a piano app.

Simply Piano Good at first and some easy ways to cheat

I wanted to have a goal to finish after summer, one of them was to learn how to play the ukulele or piano because I already have those two instruments in my house. So after seeing this app all over YouTube I gave it a shot. Setting up the account was fun and easy, it told me to pick a song so I did and preseeded. I learned the basics, like the main cords and how to read sheets with your right hand. I had a lot of fun, it’s short and easy for a person who only played during there childhood for a brief amount of time. Then after finishing like a 5-10 minute lesson, I thought I would play the song I picked at the start. Then realizing that you need to pay money to get assess to all the other things you see on the ads. But I don’t have the money to pay on an app. If I did have the money I would just get in real life lessons. I know the app has to make money some way, and I love that there was no ads when I did the beginner tutorial. But I think there should be somethings that could be free. For the people who want to expand there hobbies, especially during quarantine. ………………………………………………….Ways to cheat/glitches: Not really cheating because it’s not competitive but sorta ruins it. You can just press random keys and you can do it pretty easy, also You can use your voice to play the keys because the app things singing or talk is you playing the keys. Also when I’m pressing the right keys the app things im pressing other keys.

Simply Piano This game is so stupid!

I just spent a while going through as many piano games as I could most of them said theyAre free but then they make you pay as soon as you start the game but simply piano it makes you think you can pay for this to get a premium access to a whole bunch of their stuff and then you can say you don’t want to in so it’ll start up the game like normal and then once you’re almost done with the basics it tells you you have to pay to get done with the rest of the game and it doesn’t even let you learn the rest. I feel like this game is just trying to Clickbait people into saying it’s free but you can pay if you want to and then it ends up being completely lying it makes me so mad and I kept on trying to play and my sound on my keyboard was almost turned all the way up and it kept on saying that I couldn’t pick up my sound because either the microphone wasn’t working or my keyboard was too quiet. So basically it’s a scam and it has bugsand I’m just so glad that I didn’t have to pay for it and I deleted it before I actually got desperate. Because I’ve heard a lot of people spreading rumors saying that this takes your data and uses it for its own reasons so basically it’s taking your private information and stealing it but I’m pretty sure those things aren’t true so how about you just download the game and try it for yourself but don’t pay for it yet! Only do it if you’re 100% sure it’s worth it and there’s no other way you can learn

Simply Piano Good but super expensive so I deleted it

This app is good I like it but when I heard that u needed to pay I was frustrated because it’s is so expensive and I really wanted to play piano so I went to YouTube and learned how to play new songs but I kept getting Simply Piano ads so I couldn’t bother downloading the app at first it was good nothing wrong with it but then when I found out you pay for it I was in shock because you don’t need pay just so u can get piano lessons and I could’ve gave u 1 Star but I gave u and extra because I have to admit it is a good app and if you didn’t needed to pay this app could’ve been haven even better but no you just needed to put some paying n the app like I bet you don’t even care about those who want to learn piano and that they can afford you know why because they are SUPER EXPENSIVE so I deleted this app because of that and btw u don’t need this “super great app” there are way easier song u can play on YouTube less then I don’t know maybe an HOUR or so and this game is also really hard ok maybe no that hard but it’s kinda hard so I rather to go to YouTube and learn from there because either way there better song there and they are easier and I don’t know why it says it’s a fun way to learn Piano YOU THINK PAYING IS FUN bad review really I don’t why people want to pay for this if they can just go to YouTube for free and learnt faster there please if your reading this before getting the app listen to me it makes u pay are it expensive so I rather you not get it

Simply Piano Life without music

So i had this app for years and it really helped me learn my piano but I wanted to learn more songs and more notes so there is a bad reason that I don’t like this app and it is that well It is so expensive to play different songs and learn more notes and I feel like the people who own this app don’t care about how much other people really wanna learn songs but don’t have money like why!? It’s already really expensive to buy a piano.
So please fix this and make the songs and notes a little cheaper so other people can learn to make music without having to spend lots of money so let’s say a mom and a kid spend almost all their money on a house and furniture and it also has a piano.
Then they only have no more money left but the kid really wants to learn music and that would not be fair! So please fix this problem and they only teach you 5 notes from the start and only almost 4 songs so it’s really sad I know you guys need money but this doesn’t make the app really good. So please fix this and also it makes people wanna delete this app and look for a app that doesn’t cost any money that will take a while. So if you really wanna make this a better app, treat people better and make this app cheaper so people that have a low amount of money can make music like music can be a part of a job that someone really wants but they don’t know how to make music so they can’t have the job and can’t make money. And it keeps asking for more and more money when you get premium so people only spend their noney on music and get homeless.

Simply Piano Awful experience please read before purchasing!

My experience started off wonderfully. At the beginning of the Pandemic I made it a goal to learn keyboard as a way to be productive and have fun. The lessons started off great!

Then the app stopped recognizing notes on my keyboard. I tried every troubleshooting option SimplyPiano suggested. I reached out to SimplyPiano many, many times and I was transferred to person after person who suggested all of the things I’d already tried and others had already suggested.

Months passed with me unable to use the app and waiting for the next representation at SimplyPiano to suggest options that did not work. I asked to please be refunded and they told me the cancellation time period had gone by.

I contacted Apple and they said I had to cancel through the App. SimplyPiano and Apple eventually suggested I cancel through the credit card company. The credit card company told me the amount of time passed and only Apple Or SimplyPiano could issue a refund.

All of these customer service calls take hours because of the Pandemic. Emails take days or weeks, again due to the Pandemic. I understand the waiting time because of the unprecedented Pandemic situation. It is that same waiting time that caused months to pass without resolving the problem of the App not working and then I am told too long of a time has passed to issue a refund.

Bottom line is, the App does not work. The SimplyPiano Representatives acknowledge the App isn’t working and that many others have had the same exact problem. I am out over $100, I have not been able to learn keyboard and am stuck in one of those loops where no one will take responsibility and passes responsibility to someone else.

This is the longest and one of the only reviews I’ve ever written. Hope it can help someone else avoid losing money and hours of time like I did.
