On Thursday, September 29th, 2023, I underwent an elective surgical procedure at Vaser high definition liposuction abdomen muscle sculpting in Seduction Cosmetic Center, located at 4950 SW 8th St, Miami FL 33134. When I awoke from the surgery, I was in excruciating pain, but the nurses assured me that this was normal, and gave me some more pain reliever, which alleviated the pain. When the anesthesia wore off, I was discharged from the hospital and was told everything was fine.

As part of the post-op discharge instructions, I was to remain local so that I could receive daily in-person check-ups with my surgeon, Dr. Abeer Sawwaf. I visited her every day for a week and she examined my waist and told me that everything was healing fine. She never told me at any point that I had 3rd degree burns.

When I arrived back home in New Jersey, I proceeded to change the bandages, and that’s when I noticed a very large red and purple bruise on both of the sides of my waists. I immediately requested a virtual follow-up appointment with my doctor. After taking a look, she insisted that the discoloration was normal.

After a few days, the bruised area began to get worse, and it looked more like a burn mark instead. So I requested a 2nd virtual meeting with my doctor to show her that the skin was beginning to darken. Once again, she took a look and insisted that the appearance of my skin was normal and it was part of the normal healing process. I asked if there was anything I can use topically to accelerate the healing, and she sent me a prescription for an ointment.

Although the ointment appeared to be slowly helping, my other concern is that as part of my recovery process I am required to have a series of post-surgical medical massages. But due to the tenderness of my waist and the exposed raw skin tissue, the masseuse is unable to perform the massage properly. As such, these burns have interrupted and delayed the overall post-op healing process.

Another concern of mine was the ethical medical practices. Why is it that they never informed me that there was a chance that there could be bruising and burns? So I called the office to try to understand if my experience was a typical or an adverse reaction, in order to calm my building anxiety. The doctor’s assistant answered and relayed the information that this is very normal and insisted that I was healing just fine. He offered to send a new prescription for the topical ointment since I had used up the first bottle. When I inquired why was it that I was never told of these possible outcomes, he stated that it is not in their policy to mention this to the patient pre-op or post-op before they are discharged.

Currently, even with the use of the ointment, there are scars forming on both sides of my waist and the skin is very discolored. So I reached out once again to request another consultation with the doctor, and every time I call, the assistant tells me she is busy. But she never calls back. So after several attempts, there has not been any response to my request for a follow-up appointment.

At this point, I requested a copy of my medical records. I was emailed the release authorization form, which I completed and returned about 3 weeks ago. To this date, I still do not have a copy of my records.
