July 7th, 2022, 5:45p.m.

I arrived early to a pedicure appointment at Sechelt/Sunshine Coast Nail Salon to discuss the potential of getting a full set of acrylic nails put on my bitten nails, having successfully had the procedure done elsewhere before.

After all the technicians in the salon examined my nails, I was told that they could do it at a later date as it would take 1.5 hours.

I communicated that I was aware that the final product wouldn't look as good or last as long as it would on someone who didn't bite their nails but was okay with that.

I then received a shoddy pedicure from them, having to guide them through the process, as they rushed through it, leaving calluses, not dealing with my cuticles and with the gel nail polish chipping off with in two days of application.

I called several other salons to get the polish replaced and to receive a full nail set but everyone was fully booked, so I called Sechelt/Sunshine Coast Nail salon to book an appointment for Friday, July 22nd, as that's when I'd be in Sechelt again. I let them know I was the woman who'd gone in there on July 7th to show them my bitten nails and who'd been told to book a 1.5 hour appointment to get a full set of nails put on.

They could do my toes but not my hands then, with their next available appointment being the next morning at 9:30a.m., which I very reluctantly accepted, explaining to them that it would mean having to drive to Sechelt again, after working until 3:30a. m the night before... but I had a wedding to go to that same day, so I did it.

Saturday, July 23rd, 2022, 9:30a.m.

They repaired the toe nail polish, then the owner/manager, Johnny came out to tell me that they weren't going to do my hands because I bit my nails, at which point I expressed my disappointment, explaining everything that I've already mentioned so far. He refused to proved the service I was booked in for and charged me the full price for the toe nail polish, even though I had to get it redone because it was substandard to begin with. He offered me a 2% discount, to which I responded with 'that's terrible customer service Johnny', as I've known him since he was a young boy. I told him that the re-polishing should be on the house, given that it was as a result of their shoddy job and as a means to slightly compensate me for my troubles, time and sleep lost and gas expenses traveling to Sechelt for a service not provided, specially as I could have had my toes redone the day before, when I was already there, had I not been told that they would do my hands and toes at the same time on Saturday... then he locked the door and called the police!, saying that I was trying to do a dine and dash, in front of two other clients!... blocking the door and keeping me there for over 15 minutes, waiting for the police to arrive.

So embarrassing, angering, disappointing, scary and completely unnecessary.

He called his mum, whom I've known for years, as she's a local restaurant owner whom I have a good relationship with. She arrived quickly and tried to mediate, telling him he was being unreasonable but by then the police had arrived and I was shaking and in tears... just wanted to out of there, so I paid the $26 for the re-polishing and went to sit in my car, trying to calm myself.

The police officer just seemed annoyed that he was called for 'something so trivial', as he put it but being unlawfully detained is hardly trivial.

Desired outcome: I want this known in case he tries anything like this again, so at least it's on record for possible future maltreated clients of Sechelt/Sunshine Coast Nail salon.
